Back in May when I was prematurely released to run again, we five HURT run leaders signed up for the first ever Lake Lansing Marathon Relay. Not even a week or so later I realized I was still very much injured and went back to the sidelines, assuming I'd just have someone take my spot when the time came. Yesterday, race day, came upon us and the team worked it out so that I could still play a small roll; they wouldn't even consider having someone fill my spot, they are the best.
The event was held at Lake Lansing South, a park on Lake Lansing in Haslett. The course loops 5.2 miles around the lake and through the Lake Lansing North park, a course I'm familiar with, having run there many times before when we lived in the Lansing area. The line-up was:
Runner #1: Brian
Runner #2: Spike
Runner #3: Angela
Runner #4: Tanner
Runner #5: Angela again, for me, with me running in the final mile with her.

Don't ask, totally inappropriate inside joke, obviously.
Playmakers did such a great job with this race, it was so well organized and the rest of the team said the course was really well marked and beautiful. Due to my injury I wasn't able to run my leg so thankfully Angela stepped up and took it on, with me meeting her a mile out from the finish to run it in with her. This was her first double digit run and I am so freaking proud of her! We took it nice and easy in to the finish and the rest of the team jumped in with us so we could all finish together. We chanted "HURT! HURT!" over and over and then erupted into "BEAVERS!!!" when we hit the finish. It was pretty hilarious.
This was my first mile back at it and I'm thankful to have done it with my team. I'm really looking forward to doing this event again next year, and hopefully able to contribute more than just the last mile. If you're local to the area I absolutely recommend it; registration was reasonably priced, great location, real restrooms, and food and entertainment to enjoy while your teammates are running their legs; can't get better than that!
