3 Things Thursday

  1. The Longest Run... I did it you guys, I ran my first 20 miler in almost three years this past weekend!!! It was tough, both physically and emotionally, but I survived and am happily enjoying a step-back week. I "only" have to run 10 miles this weekend. Ha!

  2. The Dreadmill... I did something else recently that I haven't done in years: run on a dreadmill, and guess what? I still hate it. I had a 6 miler planned for Tuesday but was only able to make it 3 M before I wanted to die. In hindsight I should've just endured the 30mph wind and sleet-storm outside. Seriously.
And clearly I'm not alone in this thought.

  3. The Dentist... In preparation for braces I've been taking care of a few cavities that needed filling and have learned a few things I thought I would share with you guys: 1) If you don't have enough "fatty tissue" in your face you end up with bruises from the injections they have to give you to numb your lower jaw, awesome. 2) If you're using energy gu's, gel's, shot blok's, sports drinks, or any of the usual nutrition options while training, my dentist encourages you to rinse out your mouth with water after taking it and chew sugar-free gum until you can brush/floss post-run to avoid getting cavities. Don't say I never taught you anything. Happy Friday Eve!

Way to go with 20 miles...I can only dream that one day I will be able to run that far!! I feel you on the treadmill runs... they.are.miserable.

So proud of you for your 20 miles! I have 7 or 8 this weekend and that's making me nervous - I'm giving serious thought to running them in my Newtons. My ankles get sore but I've had almost ZERO shin pain after runs in the neutral shoes whereas my Asics 2170s/orthotics cause my shin to hurt. Makes me wonder, KWIM?

Makes sense about the running fuel causing cavities. I'm going to just go with actual candy. :)

awesome on the 20 mile run! That must have felt incredible to be able to do that again. And about the dentist that is good to know, never thought about that!

Congrats on your 20 miler!!
I have come to terms with the treadmill recently but I think having several TVs to watch and music to listen to helps. I also usually switch up the speed to keep it more interesting.

Wow on that girlie, congrats! The treadmill and I have to sometimes have pep talks...and people look at me funny...and I ask for no judgment

Awesome work on the 20 miles! I am dreaming of hitting that milestone some day. Longest run ever is 14.

The dreadmill & I have a love/hate relationship. At the gym, I can eke out 5 miles. More than that, & I'll endure any weather to avoid it, but if I'm home with the kiddos. . . it's just me & the 'mill.

My dentist yelled at me for eating so many gummy-sugary things while training. Triathlon caused my first cavity in years!!!

good job on the 20

I can't stand the dreadmill either

Congrats on getting the 20 in, it's always a great feeling to finish those long ones. As for the dentist...thanks for sharing that, I never thought to put it together that those lovely concentrated sugars and electrolytes that we use to train could speed up damage to teeth...Learn something new every day

Team NO TREADMILL EVER!

And you're right - 3 miles on one is sheer torture. About all I can stomach, though I've been dreadmill free since 2007 and WILL BE FOR LIFE.

Nice work on the 20 miler! Can I ask... for your training, how many are you planning on tackling? I'm just about to enter my series of 20's and always look up to what other blogger runners do.

(comment problem, fixed! thanks!)

Congrats in your 20-miler. I absolutely HATE the treadmill and avoid it at all costs. Would rather run on a steamy hot Florida road at noon in the middle of July barefoot. Sorry I am a bit dramatic but true.

Can you thank your dentist for me for that great advice? :D
Good for you for taking the time to prep before getting braces. I think part of the reason why people experience pain in getting braces is because the just jump into it willy-nilly, without proper preparation or an inkling of what getting braces will entail.

Anyway, awesome post! Hope you’ll have a pleasant time with your upcoming braces! :)
