Rixy's Totally 80s Wedding Shower

Saturday, in the middle of all the Disney action, I co-hosted a bridal shower for one of my bestie's, Rixy. It was an 80s themed shower and guests were asked to dress accordingly. The bridesmaids and I worked overtime coming up with a kick@ss way to decorate and I just had to share!
Love this girl, so honored to be her maid of honor!
Here's the invite, made by yours truly:

I mailed them in obnoxiously bright envelopes

I gotta share a few deets about what the bride up there is wearing, first up are the glasses, I stumbled across them via Pinterest and thought they were the coolest things ever. I got them from Promovizion and they have a lot of different fonts, colors, even customized versions.

Each guest got a grab bag of 80s glasses,
slap bracelets, jelly bracelets, and ring pops
Then there's the puffy-painted, bedeazzled, and iron-on patch masterpiece that is her jean jacket. The idea for that came about when I came across an 80s bachelorette party blog post that had done something similar, but I wanted to take it a step further. So to the craft store I went in search of puffy paint, lace, iron-on patches, and jewels. A few hours later, I think it turned out perfect; my favorite part being the "love note" inside signed by all the bridesmaids.

Jean jacket was a Salvation Army score
Now on to the decor and what not. The location of the shower was in a small conference room at a hotel so decorating was limited so we went all out on the tables and centerpieces to really jazz things up.

My favorite part of the decorations was the centerpieces, the girls had hit up the local goodwill to purchase a collection of VHS movies from the 80s along with some old cassette tapes to paint, then they secured a collection of troll dolls and My Little Ponies to finish the look. Rixy died when she saw them!

We had a delicious cake from Publix and also had a spread of appetizers to choose from.

Another favorite part of the fun was the photo backdrop that bridesmaid Yvonne came up with; she bought some fabric from Joann's and we just taped it up some funny 80s sayings posters. There were a lot of fun pics taken in front of that:

You can't handle all that 80s dress!
Besides taking a zillion pics in our ridiculous get ups and Rixy opening all her gifts, we played a few games, linking here for posterity sake:
  • Couples of the 80s (Real and Otherwise) - Players had to name the missing person from the couple listed.

  • Name that 80s Song - I played snippets from this "80s Power Hour" to have them guess the title and band name of the song played. They got one point for having title and one for band name.
It was such a fun few hours, our bride was so happy, and I was excited to be able to see my Florida girls again so soon.
