No, I'm not pregnant, but today does mark the first day of my 16-week training plan for the Glass City Marathon and I am stoked! Base training over the past month+ has gone well and I'm feeling good about getting started. I'm also really excited to see how shaking things up will work out: this go around I've picked up a new coach and am trying a 4-day run schedule. (As opposed to the 5-day run schedule I used for my previous marathons)

For as excited as I am to get started, I must also admit that a part of me is also kinda anxious. My last attempt at a marathon left me with the great stress fracture of 2011 and while I played it very smart building back up the miles over 2012, I think there's always going to be a part of me that is nervous that I could end up sidelined again. Obviously I will be playing it safe and listening to my body, pulling back if anything seems amiss, but I wish I had a crystal ball that could assure me with a glimpse of me finishing this marathon.
So that's where I'm at heading in to this thing, excited and anxious. Any tips or tricks from those of you that recovered from a serious running injury and made your way back among the marathoning?
Oh and before I wrap this up, guess what?!?!? We FINALLY got our wedding proofs back! That means a recap will be coming SOON! HOORAY!!! Happy Monday, runday peeps!

New coach? Spill please.
thanks for the PG heart attack RED.
My injury wasn't as serious as yours, but definitely listening to your body. I only ran like 3-4 days during my marathon training. It's all about getting there to the start, that really is the hard part :)
Ross, you do realize that since you're now married that nearly 37% of all blog and facebook post will begin with something to the effect of "no, I am not pregnant!" Just and FYI. ;)
This is great news! So excited for you but I totally understand your anxiety. After all my injuries I'm a little gun shy to get back into the game. Sounds like you have a great plan though and you'll be super smart. Have fun!!
Hey apart from run training, don't forget to keep up with nutrition and rest/recovery "training". All the best Morgan, looking forward to following you on your journey.
I completely understand the worry and anxiety. I'm just trying to put together a plan for my next half and looking at 3-4 day a week run plans make me nervous, especially since I still don't feel 100% recovered.
I'm toying with the idea of a fall full, but right now I can't wrap my head around it.
Good luck - I'm sure you will be smart and listen to your body. You are my inspiration in kicking injury's ass and I know you'll do great at Glass City.
Good Luck with your training. Sending happy running vibes your way.
Exciting! Here is to an injury free season! :)
Good luck in training. In coming back after an injury, with a little perspective, I always try to slow it down. Listen to body, and leave enough time to heal, rest, recover. i am not a slave to the plan because that stress can cause further problems. I plan is just that -- a plan, not an absolute path.
Good luck.
Well 16 weeks puts you at a conception of around 9/17 and we all know you weren't wed until October.....
Eeks!! Gulp. I know how you feel and I'm not even as committed as you yet (haven't signed up for anything). Still need to rehab my glute situation... Yeah, I've been a dummy.
So excited for you AND totally understand why you're anxious this is a HUGE deal. However, I have full faith you'll do this smartly and won't end up back in 2011 again. You.can.do.this.
Exciting! You've already eased yourself back into training so I think you are already on the track for success!
You reminded me that I need to have a training plan for my half at the end of April. I guess I'll be working on that today.
So exciting! Good luck with the start of training.
I ran the half there last year! I also went to school there as well. There are 2 awesome pancake places close by. The original pancake house and Uncle Johns, both on secor. Your welcome :)
I haven't had a setback anywhere near what you suffered with the stress fracture, so no sage wisdom here. But I wish you the best of luck. Go get this thing!
HA! That is totally what I was thinking when I saw your blog title ... good luck in your training for the half. I too am running a half (in March) - time to kick it into high gear!
Good luck with your training!!
Rolling out and rest days are your best friends for these next 16 weeks
:-)
WHEW. A "Pg" (as dubbed by Katie) announcement would've really thrown off that training plan ;)
Here it goes!
There is nothing to fear but fear itself. You will do great! Can't wait to read all about your training. :-)
