Happy Monday Runnerds! Today kicked off day one of my eight week Capital City River Run half marathon training plan! Despite a pretty crazy, busy weekend (more on that in a separate post) I managed to get my butt up and out the door early for a pace workout this morning. I was worried my legs wouldn't remember what "fast" felt like, but after my mile warm-up they quickly locked in to goal race pace and managed two perfectly split miles. I was supposed to do three miles at race pace, but it was really pouring and when I saw two flashes of lightning I decided two miles was enough. I'm not scared of running in the rain (anymore) but I draw the line at lightning.

I have signed up for, and not run CCRR due to injury twice now and I'm really hoping to break the curse this go 'round. My longest run to date has been 10 miles and I feel pretty confident I can make the extra 3.1 happen. My goal is to finally, legitimately break two hours; I know you're probably thinking "wait, what?!" No, I have never officially broken two hours in the half marathon distance. My first clocked in at 2:02, my second was a hellaciously hot disaster of a race in 2:09, my third was run for fun with a friend the weekend before my first sub-4 marathon (technically I went sub-2 for both halves of that race, but it doesn't really count), and finally, Grand Rapids in 2010 was 2:00 exactly, coming off an injury. I KNOW I have sub-2 in me and considering I ran a 1:19 at the Solstice Run 10 miler in June, I'm hoping that giving it my all for the next eight weeks will make it happen!
Do you have a monkey to get off your back? What is it?

You read my mind cause I was like whaaa? You so got this Boo. Tell those monkeys to hit the road!
I'm gunning for a half under two hours as well. Maybe at the end of August if the weather cooperates but not looking good so far. I think you can smash two hours now!
You definitely have this in the bag!
My crystal ball says well below 2 hours!!!
You got this!
You so have this!! btw I signed up for the race today!! And depending on where I am in Detroit Marathon training hoping to be racing this one and have a goal of 1:50.
Three words.. You've GOT THIS!!! Woot!!!!! ~Nora
Under two -- you can do it! You pretty much did it already, you just need to make it official!
Best of luck with your training! I'm sure you'll do it! :)
Good luck with the training. It sounds like you have a SUB 2:00 within you and you can kick that monkey to the curb!
OMG You soooo have this nailed! Run a smart race & easy peasy :)
My monkey is a severe lack of confidence. I have a lofty time goal for Wine & Dine & the plan I was going to use was supposed to start last week with an 8 mile long run. Yep. Not realistic. Changing my focus is going to be hard.
Happy Training!
Sub-2 hours sounds like a sandbaggers goal to me... ;) You are going to knock it out of the park!
Sounds like another PR that you will completely destroy this year. :)
You've got sub-2 hours! I have a strong feeling you'll go MUCH faster than you think. Your race times since coming of an injury are so fast!!
You'll definitely go sub-2. In fact, I'm betting 1:50 or so.
Meh! Monkey? What Monkey? You've got the sub-2 in the bag.
You deserve it and will rock it!
Sub 2 hours will be your monkey no more.
Holy $h*t, you ran a 10 milers in 1:19?!? I missed it (and everything else...) while being preoccupied with baby.
Smart, getting out of the lightning. And THANK YOU for spelling lightning correctly. I was beginning to despair ...
I too have come within a minute of breaking 2:00 in the 13.1 (road race) but haven't yet done it. It needs to go on my short list. Thanks for the nudge!
remember when you were on crutches for like 8 years? yeah me either.
I have to get that sub-2:00 of my back too, but lately it just doesn't look like it's going to happen this year. I'm probably going the wrong way in the halfs, honestly.
