- Injury Angst… Confession: My right ankle/lower leg (not previously injured) has been bothering me. At first I thought it was just the usual aches associated with training, but last week I noticed my ankle was swollen. I decided to take a few days off after my run on Thursday to be proactive; skipping my long run and trying not to jump around too much while spectating on Sunday. I went for a test run on Tuesday morning and things seemed to be in working order. This morning I set out for another test run and so far, so good. That said…
- RBR Goals… Before I started getting concerned about this possible injury situation my goal for Saturday’s River Bank Run 10k was to PR the crap out of it. (Current 10k PR: 50:20 - 2009) Given recent developments I’m going to attempt to race, but if things aren't feeling right I’ll back down and focus on just finishing instead. Fingers crossed that won't be the case though...

Ready or not, here I come G.R.!!! - Raced Out... Despite all of this, I'm still really excited for the race. This is a huge event in our area and marking it's 35th year of existence. Kevin has graciously agreed to let us crash at his place, and we get to meet up with lots of other friends. We're also excited that it's our last week of racing for awhile; one or both of us have raced every week for the last four weekends straight and we're feeling a bit raced out!
Have you ever had race burn-out?

Be careful Chica!
Sending good thoughts that your leg/ankle is great for your race!
I think you can easily crush your 10k PR!
Good luck in the 10k! I hope the swollen ankle was just a minor blip and stays healthy.
Mildly burnt out on racing seems SO MUCH BETTER than injured and unable to run. Back off if you'd like, but it seems like a good problem to have right now.
Race burn out is a sign of how good things are going, for sure. Means running, racing and no injuries to worry about.
Good luck on 10k!
Bummer!
I was registered for the 25k, admitted my shin hurt too bad for that so was dropping to the 10k. Now I'm out for the count with a probable stress fracture :(
I still haven't been cleared to run after my stress fracture and I freak out at every little twinge, thinking I'm going to end up on crutches again. I hope you stay injury free and can still run the race you want!
Tell Kevin's wife that she HAS to make him make chocolate covered bananas and strawberries for everyone. M'kay? MUAHAHAHAHA!
Otherwise, have a great race!
Prayer that everything goes well and you still PR the crap out of that 10k! I'll be there at the finish line screaming my head off :)
Ugh, hope that other legs is back in top condition! I feel like I could race more, but just don't want to throw down the $$. It gets spendy to do even little races here and there so I tend to save my race $ for marathons or trail races where I feel like I Get a little more bang for my buck. But part of me also wants to race less "big" and race more often "local."
i hope you get to race the crap out of it! you know your body the best so if it doesn't hurt - let er rip!!! good luck Boo!
Good luck in the 10k! It sounds like the swollen ankle was just one of those weird things that pops up and then disappears so I hope you are good to go on Saturday.
Fingers crossed that everything feels okay because you are due to CRUSH that PR, girl!
After that, a non-racing and low-key weekend will be in order for sure.
Have fun!
I wish I could afford to have race burnout!
Have fun at GR and race smart!
Good luck. Please don't over do it. One PR is not worth no running(as I'm sure you fully know) I would love to do this race some day. I'll be doing the GR marathon in October so I'll get a taste for running in GR.
I think once you've had an injury we become very acutely aware of our body and any pain that doesn't seem normal. Try to trust yourself and hope you are able to PR your 10K time!
Well, you're just now allowed to feel injured, I absolutely forbid it, so there.
See, that fixes everything!
cool blog
So happy for you that you are raced out!!!!!! I'm not kidding.. how great is that to race so much that your ankle says hey can I take a few days off? Rest up my runner friend. You've got such great days ahead
Racing four weeks in a row! Nitmos (Feet Meet Street) is right, you are a race-ist!
ok i'm slow to comment so i hope you had a great race this morning and that it was nothing more than a little pre-race twinge!
