It’s officially race weekend friends! Spike is as ready as he can be for the inaugural Lansing Marathon on Sunday and I’m shooting for a legitimate PR at the 5k. I’m sure like most of you out there, when you train for a big event you also have a reward in mind for yourself for post-race, whether that’s a well-earned Boston Finisher jacket or a vacation getaway; a new pair of Lululemon’s or an extra large serving of fro-yo. Around these parts we do things a little different; Spike starts stockpiling all the junk food he so covets, but refrains from consuming while training.

| I actually found him petting the box of Cheezits at the store. |
I’ve already been informed we’re ordering Jet's Pizza for dinner Sunday night and that he plans to gain back all of the 35± pounds he’s lost in a single sitting. While I don’t believe that is physically possible, I will refrain from challenging the matter. I’m actually really proud of him and think he deserves this bingefest; this training cycle has not been easy and he went in with absolutely zero base. He’s also trying a two week taper for the first time ever and had a shorter training cycle then what he’s used to. He’s come a long way over the last 14 weeks and I am praying to the running gods that all his hard work will pay off with favorable weather and no more last minute race course changes!
As for myself, as I said earlier, I am shooting for a legitimate 5k PR; which is <22:19. (My current standing PR from the 2010 BAA 5k.) My training for the River Bank 10k has been going well and my speed sessions leave me feeling hopeful that I can pull off a PR this weekend at Lansing. My reward will be a luscious cupcake from the Sugar Shack, my new found cupcake addiction manufacturer. I swear to you they put either crack or pixie dust in their cupcakes. Probably both.

| I plan to consume said cupcake whether I PR or not. | Obviously. |
Good luck to all of you running or racing this weekend! Keep your fingers crossed for Spike and I and we'll catch ya on the flipside with race recaps!!!

Good Luck!! I am planning on coming down to spectate, my first time spectating a marathon!
I also ran the 5/3 10k last year, and while it was cold and rained the whole time, it was def. a great experience.
Have fun Sunday and Good Luck!!
Good luck to team Red-Spike. Run well and drink well. Cheers!
May the running Gods shine their favor upon you both. :)
I hope to see you on Sunday morning! Good luck on your PR!! It is going to be such a fun day with so many friends racing all in one day!
Best of luck with your PR. Stay healthy. Enjoy the healthy dining afterwards. It's really all about the rewards.
You guys don't need no stinking LUCK! Just run as fast as those little feet will take you........
Is it really possible that I've been reading your blog for 2 years?!? That seems crazy, but true! Good luck this weekend. You're gonna do great, PR or not!
I'm hoping you get your PR but I will be impressed with whatever time you get. You battled back and now are once again in the throes of a race. That's superb.
Good luck to you both this weekend!
Good luck Boo! You're going to do great! I see a new 5K PR in your future.
You enjoy that cupcake, cupcake. :)
Good luck, girl! I see a sub 22 FOR SURE in your future! You got this!!! I ran a 21:11 on Tuesday... beat my time! Do it! go sub 21 even! I believe in yoooooouuuuu :)
Good luck to both of you!!!! Enjoy that cupcake and Jets :) Also, those Samoas in that picture wouldn't have lasted 5 min around me - Spike has amazing restraint.
Can't wait to cheer you on at RBR (since I won't be running I can spectate, although I'm hoping to be cleared to at least try the 5k)
Hey! Long time reader, first time commenter. Have fun on Sunday, and good luck to you and Spike in your races! Ill be running the 1/2! On the topic of Sugar Shack, if you think their cupcakes are amazing (which they are!), try their cookies. They are (in my opinion) life changing, especially the oatmeal raisin.
Jets is banned in our house due to the post-digestive nightmares it causes (so it's not just a clever name). Good luck to you both.
All the best Spike! And go rock the race Morgan!
Have a great time! I wish I could be in my hometown for the inaugural event!! Man, I miss jets!!
You sooo got this!!!! Best of luck to you and Spike
Good luck to both of you. Can't wait to hear the review of this race. I decided to wait on this one to see how the first one goes. Enjoy it - looks like weather will be perfect. I'll be in Toledo running the Glass City half.
