- Florida Long Run... Last Saturday while in Florida, I went on my longest run this year, and of this 10k training plan, eight miles! Harold wasn't able to run with us afterall, so Spike and I decided to hit the more local Seminole Wekiva Trail. We really enjoy this trail as it's mostly shaded and pretty scenic. Although it was awfully humid, we lucked out with an overcast morning, and for me anyway, it was a great--albeit sweaty run.
- Jamoosh... Jamoosh has been a long time blog friend of mine, so when I found out he was in the Mitten for work I annoyed him until he agreed to meet Spike and I for dinner. :) Naturally I selected the local brew pub for my beer-loving connoisseur friend and we chatted away about all things running over some great food and brew.Would it kill you to smile?!?!?
- New Addition... After many years of dutiful service, Hermes was officially retired on Monday. He was a good Garmin, but between loosing his voice many months ago (i.e no mile beeps) and then his strap breaking recently, causing me to have to use a hair clip to keep him on my wrist, Spike decided I deserved a replacement. Behold, my fancy new, nameless Garmin 110:

I've taken her out for a run already, but still need some time to get used to her. She also needs a name, preferably before this Sunday's race. Anyone have any great names for this pink and gray beauty that will be adorning my wrist from here on out?!?! So far I've come up with Lulu (to keep with my trend of "L" names; Leela the bike, Lola the car, etc...) and/or Gigi cuz it's fiesty and fun. What do you guys think?

First!!! I like Gigi
I ran 7 miles on Saturday but in more time than you ran 8 miles. Haha. I ran with a newer runner so we kept a slower pace.
I think it *would* kill Jamoosh if he smiles.
I have that same Garmin! Mine is named Maude. I like Gigi.
I like Gigi too! This is Beaker Luv!
I am smiling on the inside!
Nice run! That's a pretty sweet pace for your longest run of the year too!
I really want the Garmin 110. I have the 405 and it drives me bonkers. I just want the version that tells me how far and fast I'm going, maybe then the satellites will actually work!
I like Gigi too. But, I like sticking with a mythological name and suggest: "Parvati" Hindu Goddes of Power and Perserverance.
The fine people of Wikipedia say "Parvati is the goddess of power. She is the one who gives life energy (or 'Shakti') to all beings and without her, all beings are inert. The goddess is Shakti herself, who actually lives in all beings in the form of power. Without power, one can do nothing, including yoga.
Shakti is needed by all beings, whether the Trimurti, the devas, humans, animals, or even plants. Parvati is the provider of shakti. Without her, life is completely inert. This power is required to see, to hear, to feel, to think, to inhale and exhale, to walk, to eat, and to do anything else. The goddess is worshiped by all gods, the Trimurti, rishis, and all other beings."
I vote for Gigi. :) Congrats on the 8-miler!
If you thought it was a boy I'd say call it "L. Run Hubbard," but girl watch has to be Lumiya (powerful part mechanical redhead sith lord from the Star Wars universe).
You get to meet all the cool kids. Jealous. ;)
LOVE the new addition. I think you should go with Gwen. We both love a Gwen.... ;)
Well, aren't you fancy? Did you let Jamoosh order the beer for you? He has impeccable taste. Cheers!
i can't keep up w/ all the different watches out there now, but it looks pretty. :-)
i'm still rocking the garmin 305 hoping that puppy never dies. learning a new watch would stress me out.
Wahoo for eight miles and a new Garmin!
Oh... props to Spike, but stay clear of Gigi... Lulu is way better.
I also am shopping for a new Garmin, I don;t really need one though, I just want one!
I think you also had the song We are Young on your blog once, have you heard the parody of it? It's hillarious!
First of all: YAY on that 8 miler!
Second of all: running in Florida? Le sigh - jealous! It's freezing in good old Holland. :(
8 miles ... outstanding. The triumphant comeback continues. Not a bad time/pace either for your first 8 in a long time.
florida is hot. or so i've heard. i have no idea what to name your watch, i don't name things.
I think you'll love the 110. Everyone I know that has the fancier garmins hate them, especially the ones with the touch bezel. I've got the 210...still not sure what the difference between the 110 and 210 is...I probably got ripped off. IMO as long as it tells me how far and how fast, it's good enough for me!
How about Layla the Playa?
i would think something like laya the playa rolls off the tongue better, kevin.
i love the new garmin. i am surprised you got one with a splash of color though. i mean, shouldn't it be plain to match your shoes? ;)
Nice run! You are going to kick ass this weekend.
Funny - I need to use a wrist sweatband under my Garmin, too. Crazy skinny wrists (but why can't the rest of me be just as skinny?).
Also - I love Michigan Brewing. Just saying. hint, hint
