Monday Mash

Sorry I kinda fell off the face of the earth, life's been crazy. In an effort to catch up/purge, here's another bullet list edition of the Monday Mash:
  • THIS! Made. My. Day. A cape for spectating? TPG totally upped the spectator extraordinaire ante and should get everlasting credit for starting what I'm sure will become, the new spectating craze. Genius!

  • PSA: Do NOT take a 5-hour Energy on an empty stomach. Based on how it's depicted in movies I can only assume this is what doing the hard drugs feels like. LOL!

  • I start my 10k training plan next week and I'm so freaking excited that I just want to start it now! I know I don't really need to "train" for the distance because I could go the extra mile today, but I'm so ready to get back on a spreadsheet and have structured workouts! I'd really like to shoot for a PR and I think based on my Corktown performance that I might have a shot at it. *Fingers crossed*

  • Spotted this on my drive in to work, how freaking random, yet totally awesome. I love me some Where's Waldo!

Technically I found him just by spotting this van, right?

  • I miss Spike. I've been unexpectedly out of town since last Wednesday, got back today, and he unexpectedly had to leave yesterday to work out of town until Friday. Sad panda. Is it Friday yet?

  • Although, I am kinda not-so-secretly looking forward to having the whole bed to myself tonight! I am desperately in need of a recharge; my last two runs were total slogfests due to lack of sleep as a result of all the hoopla.

  • Work has been pretty busy lately and I'm loving it. The first quarter is always our busy time and I've even got an out of town trip coming up that has me heading to the big apple! I'm hoping to finally get in those Central Park/High Line Park run(s) that I never got to have last summer thanks to Hurricane Irene.

  • We've got high's of 50's forecasted for most of this week, which are much more season appropriate, compared to last week's record-breaking high's in the 80's. The former Floridian in me can't stop loving and hoping all this glorious warm weather holds, but the rekindled Michigander in me knows not to hold my breath. Either way, I will greedily enjoy any day that we're not buried in snow and freezing our butts off!

  • I got all crazy last week and decided to try a temporary wash on my hair that was a total fail. The box clearly showed a bright, fun red, but the result was notsomuch. Apparently red + red does NOT = redder. Thankfully I only had to rock the brunette-ish look for a few days before the color all but faded out with multiple washings. Lesson Learned: Don't mess with perfection!

From the left: supposed color results, super dark immediately after, and the next day; thankfully mostly washed out, but still not quite right.

  • Sun Runner and I are having a girls night tonight and hitting up the Hunger Games movie! Is it ok to admit I'm totally lusting over movie-Gale? (Ok, ok I made him hot in my head while reading the books too, even before I saw the movie previews!) Does anyone else dream up characters when they read books? If so are you ok with seeing the movies after or are you crazy like Spike and refuse to "have the characters/story ruined forever" by seeing the movies? (Oddly enough, he was perfectly ok with seeing all the Harry Potter movies but not a lot of other books-turned-movies; I find this selective snobbery weird. But then again look who we're talking about...)

I am so excited for you and your new training schedule! There's something about having a plan and a goal and a checklist to mark off!
You'll have to let me know how the movie is. I'm worried they're going to ruin it and my visions as well.

Spike is a book adaptation snob? Never would have guessed that one.

I thought of you the other day. I saw four college girls riding their bikes down the road. All gingers! Not one, but ALL FOUR! It was pretty close to St. Patrick's Day... I should have looked around for leprechauns ;)

Yeah, what 10K are you doing? 5/3 Riverbank run?!?! :) Have you seen that car in AA that has stuffed animals glued all over it? Weird. So want to see Hunger Games. May go solo this week sometime as hubby hasn't finished the book yet and I don't want to wait!

Gale-lust worthy. The movie was very close to what I imagined in my head (so yes I do dream up the characters and visually see the book in my head as I read)! I was pretty shocked that it was so close to my own personal version. AND...I might have seen the hunger games after working a 12 hour shift...by myself...and I might have almost sobbed when she sang to Rue. Yep..I'm a geek!

Tears shed: 10
Nervous hand squeezes: 1
Startled squeals: 2

"When does the next one come out?"

Spike really has no idea what he's missing.

What does it say about me that this post really makes me want to try a five hour energy on an empty stomach?

10k ... awesome. Love to see those numbers getting bigger.

Also like the spreadsheet reference. I'm all about the spreadsheets. It's gotten to the point lately where I'm like a 'workout collector' who likes being able to plug them into Excel more than I actually like doing them. Man I'm a nerd.

So happy you for you to soon be in spreadsheet land!
I have to side with Spike on the book and movie snobbery. I was reading Hunger Games when rumors of the movie was coming out and I made it a point to not check out any of the people being casted. I didn't want to know. And there are some books that I won't watch the movies for either.

I am like Spike, I hate having the movies ruin my dream-characters. But HG did a great job so I wasn't too mad. Enjoy!

Oh you are sooo going to smoke a 10K! YAY for kicking off an official training plan. Fun, fun!

Enjoy hogging p the bed for a few more nights! :)

When is your 10k? I have one the last weekend in April. Care to share your plan with me? You can shoot me an email.
I saw Hunger Games! I am ok with seeing a movie after I've read the book if I've finished the book/series (doesn't count if the series is super long and not completed in book-form yet). I waited to watch the previews for the Hunger Games until I was finished with all three books.
My husband (!!) is reading the Game of Thrones books and doesn't want to watch the show until he has read all the books... and I don't think the series is complete yet.

I have in my head all these characters from the Stephanie Plum (Janet Evanovich) books and I refuse to see the movie because the people cast are so WRONG. I just saw Hunger Games and now I can read the books ;) Went a little backward on that one.

Sad Panda is so true! I'm glad you can finally get all over that spreadsheet like butter on a roll.

I am so jealous you saw that Waldo van I might even be a little angry about it.

Love the Waldo Van. Gives me an idea for the Ragnar Wasatch Back.
Hunger Games was way better than I thought it would be.

Loved The Hunger Games - Gale is pretty darn hot but I'm on Team Peeta!

We're in MI for my kids spring break. Just ran a fabulous 6 miles at flat sea level in this lovely 50 degree weather - beat my 10K PR - LOVE IT!!

I may have to agree with Spike. I haven't seen the HG yet, but I have read the book, and I have this picture in my mind of Gale that I kind of like. And I don't want to ruin it by the actual guy looking different than my idea of him.
