- I'll Take Boring for 200 Please... It's official folks, Spike is trying to change me. How exactly is he trying to change me you ask? He's trying to make me love obnoxiously bright running gear. He thinks I haven't noticed that the stuff he's so lovingly bought for me lately has started trending brighter but today he took it a touch to far and came home with these from the Playmakers annual sidewalk sale:He claims he couldn't decide which pair I would like best.He said I could return whichever pair I didn't want, but suggested I really think about it first. Then he showed me the pair he bought for himself, the loudest pair of bright orange running shoes I have ever seen.I WILL NOT BE CHANGED! I AM NOT A FLASHY SHOES TYPE OF GIRL THANKYOUVERYMUCH. (Unless they are pink. Then I'd be all over them.)
- Olympic Trials... How excited are you guys for this?!?!? We will definitely be cheering for our Mitten favorite, Desi! Did I ever tell you guys about the time Spike got to congratulate her on her Boston second place finish last year because she was on the same flight home as us?!?!?
- Bumping Up... Today is my last one miler before I bump up to 1.5 miles! The last lap is no longer kicking my butt, which means I'm ready to move it on up. I've decided to continue bumping up every two weeks until I hit three miles, after which I'll bump up every week as my doctor prescribed. I really want to ease in to my return for my own piece of mind, despite the doctor's assurance. I guess you could say I'm feeling a bit gun shy, but let's be honest, wouldn't you?

Don't blame you ONE BIT for playing it super cautious on the R2R. Now that you are running (swete, glorious running!) what's the rush to increase? Might as well take it slow to build up your legs and your confidence carefully!
Oooh I like those flashy shoes. :) I'm on Spike's side with this one.
SO happy that you are running!!!
Paint me GREEN (or any other color with envy)! I wear 15 wide and have one boring color option! I want LOUD CRAZY COLOR OPTIONS!! I WANT, NEED, PLEASE SHOE COMPANY STYLE GODS!
So excited about the trials! No one in my offce gets me. In fact, they don't even know what I am talking about. Every time I mention the trials, they think bring up Casey Anthony, OJ, or that chick from Italy!
I bought my dad running shoes this last weekend and they are the tamest you can actually buy in today's world. He told me that if he had showed up to cc practice with those in high school he would have been laughed out of school. Psshh, whatevs. I left the store with bright purple with green laces sauconys. And I ordered the highlighter pink sauconys. I believe in high viz all the way to the ground.
What? We need a reset right away. It is the woman's job to "try" and change the man. I am offended Spike would try to change you. We (and I speak of the internet "we") like you just the way you are - unflashy shoes and all!
I love my bright red shoes...
I justify them by saying they help make me more visible/noticable to cars.
But run in what YOU are comfortable in! And yes, I too would be gun shy. You are doing the part that I always have problems - taking your recovery slow to make sure it goes well!
P.S. Glad that you enjoyed the post! That was the first time a drunk tried to run after me. They've yelled often, but most lack motivation needed to give chase.
Can definitely understand why you want to be very cautious as you ease back into the running, but it is exciting that you are back and it is going well!
#1 - i'm a whore for flashy shoes. wear them with pride!
Note to self: don't send Red anything flashy unless it's pink!
Yay for bumpin up the mileage! I'd for sure be taking it easy too! I'll take slow and steady over still and dormant any day!
I generally like bright shoes. Not sure why. But i also can;t stand bright running clothing (shirts, shorts, etc.).
And the yellow soled Sauconys could conceivably (in a stretch) look like Maize and Blue, so I vote for those!
I'm with you on all three points! Shoes are getting bolder and bolder in their color choice. Is their strategy to throw the 64 pk of crayolas at the wall and see what they get? Runners start with the right shoe, and the color may be the bonus (or not.)
Yes! I am amp'ed for Houston and will be keeping tabs on it and YESS! excited that you're running!
Part of me wants to like those bright shoes but it's the part of me that is afraid I'll get lost in the woods and I'll need them to help someone find me. ;-)
Cool that you got to "meet" her.
I'd be excitedly cautious too.
Hahahah! I love bright running gear, but not on my feet. Also, nothing insane like neon green/yellow/orange. Way to stay strong!
Wahoo for bumping up mileage!!!
Those shoes are glorious! I have some pretty spiffy ones from the Brooks Pure Project line, they are quite lovely!
It's quite refreshing to see a runner easing back into the running gamg. I think that we see people just jump right back into it, and I think you are setting a great example to other injured runners!
"I say there's nothing wrong with liking a flashy man"
I love crazy shoes! And good luck with the move up to 1.5. I'm glad the return to running has been going so well so far!
Congrats on being able to bump up mileage!
Those shoes look good, go for the craziest design possible!
Definitely excited about the Olympic marathon trials! My picks are Davila, Flanagan and Kastor.
For the men I'll go with Hall, Meb and Ritzehein. Should be exciting!
you know how i feel about flashy running gear. the flashier the better! love it!
yay for both trials and bumping it up on the miles! rhyming FTW.
and now back to bed i go.
I hear ya on the flashy shoes - not really for me either.
Yah on getting ready to bump up that mileage again!!!!
Go with the bright ones!!!
Did Spike end up with the bright orange Kinvara??? Those are my favs.
Love hearing about the progress in your running! Keep it up!
Yep; totally with you on the shoes.
But yay 1.5 miles!! :)
You flew with Desi?! Whaaat?! That's a good story. :) I'm cheering for her, too. Loved her profile article in RW this month!
On the "play it safe" note - D is 'returning' to running after TWO YEARS, and he was given the go-ahead after a few weeks of walking (a Lot of miles, ha), but hasn't started yet. Gun shy? A little bit (we're starting next week - whoop!!!). But I don't blame him one bit. You guys do what you gotta do to ease in and stay strong!
Give the shoes a chance! Would love to see a pic of you in them. Especially when you hit 2 miles, 3 miles. You can definitely do it. Girl guide's honour.
Stick to the plan oh wise one. That will help you get to your goals faster than pushing and getting injured.
Go with the bright ones. The brighter the better. I'm a huge fan of red shoes but will now be sporting these neon yellow Adidas shoes b/c red is not in the mix anymore. Run with it....get it...run with it! Haha!
I love to sparkle, and let's be honest, you own disco glitter pants. But I still have to 100% agree with you on those shoes!
Go Kara Go!!!
Flashy shoes!! Let Spike AND the internet change you :)
LOVE the new shoes! My sis got a pair similar to the bottom ones and I am jealous!! They never make funky coloured shoes for my foot type :(
I'm not trying to change you, I'm simply offering you an opportunity to improve...hummm...better restart this.
I would never try to change you because you are perfect! There, that should do it.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with bumping things up slower than prescribed. I did the exact same thing after my knee surgery last year. Better too slow than too fast!
I just ordered those shoes. In a "BOYS" size because now i need a wider shoe (because Neuroma's SUCK). So they're not only ugly, they're going to be wicked ugly. ~awesome~
Congrats on the graduation to 1.5 miles - yahoooo! You are making progress! It's hard not to wonder with each step if we're going to go back to injury purgatory, but as you progress, it does get easier!
I have a super bring pink pair of Kinvaras. Even me, who loves pink and bright colors, is having a hard time wearing them! But they are pink. And pretty! :)
You are going to ROCK those 1.5 miles. Pretty soon you will be like me (and the rest of us) and will be rocking bigger mileage.
I used to be a plain jane colors kinda girl, but I'm branching out as I get older, and I like it. Though trail shoes mostly come in muted hues.
I think you're being super smart taking it slow. You've gone this long without running, savor the sweetness of the comeback!
