Before I introduce you to Morgana the Red let me first announce the winner of the YMX Giveaway...
Drum roll please...
And the winner of the Tribal Sea Run Tee is: Running Laur! Congrats girl! Please email me at redheadrunning (@) gmail with your shirt size and mailing address so I can pass it on to YMX!
Now back to the topic at hand: Morgana the Red.
Who is Morgana the Red you ask?
I'm sure many of you have heard tales about redhead's having fierce tempers right? And I'm quite certain you've also heard the age old adage "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned?" Well Morgana the Red is my ultra-angry, alter-ego and when she is feeling scorned... well let's just say you don't want to be on the receiving end of her wrath! Typically speaking she is buried deep within the peppy Redhead exterior and very rarely, if ever is unleashed. I like to imagine she looks a bit like this, only a tad more modest and a fiercer "mean" face:

Today, Morgana was stirred from the depths because after three weeks of waiting, I found out that the insurance company has denied approval for the bone stimulator. You know, the one the surgeon at my second opinion prescribed me as my last resort before it would require surgery to fix my never ending stress fracture. Yeah.
LOOOOONG story short (so long I wouldn't even know where to begin anyway), the surgeon referred bone stimulator rep failed to acquire and submit some pertinent medical information to the insurance company in a timely manner and as a result the approval for coverage was denied. Mind you the only reason why I even know this is because I have been stalking the pending authorization on the insurance's website.
And this morning the status read: "Disapproved."
Needless to say I left various nasty gram voicemail's to the appropriate people then I called the insurance company for more information. Thankfully the representative I spoke with was incredibly helpful and informed me that the denial letter I would soon receive would outline the exact reasons why it was denied and also how to appeal the denial, which I full intend to do.
Morgana the Red is enraged beyond belief.

Here she is unleashing her fury on masses of incapable bone stimulator reps.I wonder if her rage shields her from catching a cold in this get up?
So what does all this mean and where will I go from here? Well I am currently awaiting a return phone call from both my surgeon's office and the bone stimulator rep to get answers to my many questions on how this situation played out the way it did. Until then I have been researching alternative options I can take on my own to acquire a bone stimulator ASAP. As soon as I receive the denial letter I plan to begin the appeal process with the insurance company and submit the information they requested but never received myself. While all of this is taking place I will also be hoping and praying that a lead I have through a friend on a used bone stimulator pans out. There is also the option of picking up a used one off of ebay but this makes me nervous as a bone stim unit only has a certain amount of charges and you have to take a strangers word on the amount of charges they claim their unit has left on it. Alternatively I could pick up a new one tomorrow if I had $3-4k lying around, which I do not.
I truly do not know how much more I am meant to take, or can handle, with this injury. As I compile information for the appeal I calculated that I have been injured for 205 days or 29.5 weeks. It's sickening and ridiculous. All I want is to heal, put this injury behind me, and get on with my life. (As I'm sure all of you want as well, as I can only imagine you are just as sick as I am of hearing me go on and on and on about this effing thing... I can't thank you enough for enduring this with me over the last 6 1/2 months!)
So my friends now you know who Morgana the Red is and why the bone stimulator rep should be very, very afraid because hell really hath no fury like a Redhead scorned! RAWR!
Do you have an alter ego and if so what is his/her name and where does he/she derive from?

Ugh. Girl, I am so sorry. This totally sucks. Of course, you know that. I'm glad Morgana the Red is on top of things!
Oh Red...HUGS! And the bone stimulator rep should be VERY VERY AFRAID...just sayin'!
You should take up knitting... I hear sweaters are popular in Michigan during the winter!
I would also find out who the dude's (who was tardy on the paperwork) boss is and let him know about the FAIL.
Son of A!!!! Why don't insurance companies ever realize that they are probably saving money in the long term by getting their insured back on their feet enjoying a healthy active lifestyle that will prevent all of those nasty diseases that jack up insurance rates for people in their older years?
GAAHHHH!!!! If only everyone was a runner like us. We wouldn't be having these run-tarded problems!
And your insurance rep guy who dropped the ball, is required to receive a swift kick to the nuts.
Wow those are SOME boobs!
Ugh insurance. Don't even get me started. Appeal it baby. All the way up the ladder. It sucks but that's the game they play. BTDT way too many times. Hugs!
Gah! I commented and it deleted.
I successfully filed an appeal after being denied coverage. My appeal included a written letter from my doctor saying why I should have coverage. Email me if you want more insight!
Good luck!
I absolutely hate insurance companies. I've had to deal with the system way too many times and I can completely understand your frustration. The worst part is that we're always in bad situations to begin with whenever we have to fight with them, so it only makes things worse. Good luck getting it all straightened out!! I wish I had a bone stimulator to give you!
Seriously, insurance companies are THE worst! I'm so sorry. I hope you can sort everything out!
I'm so sorry to hear that someone didn't do their job right and it's causing you to be denied right now. Hopefully you can make some progress with the appeal and get it approved by the insurance company!
I am soo incredibly sorry!!!! I wish I could wave a wand for you and fix this. ((hugs))
Morgana can't be that modest if her alterego has such huge boobies!!! Geeze. Had to project this onto to promethean board here at work just so I could get the picture (boobs) to fit on one screen.
I cannot believe the bone stim dude FAILED. Epically. I would be calling his bosses until he was fired for this.
And who wouldn't want to buy a 3-4k piece of medical equipment that only lasts so long? Sounds like an easy investment to me, just transfer that from retirement savings right?
I hope these alternate avenues pan out... And for as few dollars as possible.
I love you!!!
I hate insurance companies, and I REALLY hate how dependant we are on them. Bastards.
Keep fighting, girl!
Morgana's got some serious side boob. LOL!
Hang tough sister. You're doing all the right things and will get answers soon. I just know it!
hey, email my friend cris and see if hers has any charges left and if she will sell it to you. i'll vouch for her.
and, i said it yesterday but i will say it again. FUCKING FUCKASS MOTHER (breath) FUCKERS!!
I have an alter-ego named "Pancake Breakfast" that was my other persona for a band's message board years back, and has kind of seeped into real life. He's loosely based off of K-Fed and is always doing rhyming PSAs about the most important meal of the day.
I, also, would find out who dropped the ball on the paperwork for you and inform his/her supervisor. That is completely unacceptable. Coming from someone in the medical profession, you DO NOT mess around with someone's health. This is not a cable hook up call, people. This makes me mad! Really mad.
Hoping and praying with you. And we aren't tired of hearing about your injured state. It is who you are right now, and we love who you are!!
Sometimes we get stuck in ruts, because we decide to not make the hard changes necessary to prevent making the same mistake.
Being underweight and over-exercising leads to lack of calcium absorption, weak bones, and dare I say it? Osteoporosis. Every aging woman’s favorite word, because she most likely will be dealing with it.
Taking supplements will not cause your bones to heal, or prevent them from breaking again.
Your body is telling you that it cannot get what it needs to heal with what you are giving it. Give it more love and give it more nourishment. Give it 5-10lbs more, you will not be fat.
Even if you do the bone stimulator, even if the bone decides to miraculously heal on its own, you will return to your old ways, and a new fracture will occur.
Change does not come easy, but we come upon hard times, because we resist the change we need.
First things first: WHAT did you google to find those pictures?!!?
Secondly: You have so much more strength and determination than I ever could. The way you've really kept up and kept after all of this is so impressive. I know when I'm whining and complaining about not wanting to follow up on something simple, your dedication to problem solve will be such a source to draw from. Wrath and all.
Dealing with insurance companies is probably highest on the list of things that will drive people crazy! Such an awful thing to add to "dealing with injury". Let Morgana work her magic! ;)
More cussing and perhaps some nastiness toward people WHO JUST NEED TO DO THEIR JOB.
Here's a great quote when you are wondering why you are going through all this:
“Strength through adversity. The strongest steel is forged by the fires of hell. It is pounded and struck repeatedly before it’s plunged back into the molten fire. The fire gives it power and flexibility, and the blows give it strength. Those two things make the metal pliable and able to withstand every battle it’s called upon to fight. (Savitar)”
― Sherrilyn Kenyon, Devil May Cry
Argh, insurance companies and people who fail to do their jobs properly! Good luck with the appeal.
Sorry to hear that! Pencil Pusher at the IC are not going to keep you down. They are made to be run over. BTW: those pictures might have rated a NSFW warning there Sista!
Wow and you were always talking about your guns, I hope Morgana doesn't catch a cold in that outfit. Remember, it gets cold in the mitten state! On a much more humorous note, I sure the name of the procedure had nothing to do with the rejection. Is it just a guy thang????
I'm thinking this super hero runner has to get herself a serious sports bra. Kidding aside, you will overcome this and be able to kick Morgana's ass soon.
Wow, so the insurance company dropped the ball, and they are trying to blame you? Doesn't surprise me at all with insurance companies. All those guys want to do is to have customers keep paying claims, and never actually pay out claims when people actually need help.
Hopefully the bone stimulator is approved soon, and you can try it out.
And Morgana is stacked! lol
UGH what a frickin nightmare with insurance. I hope everyone is able to sort out their paper work and get you covered. What a pain.
You DESERVE the treatment you need to heal and move on form this ^%&$ *#^%^ ^#%@ %*%($ @^%#$ injury FFS!
Um yeah, I have been on the "denied" end countless times, which is why I never sought out a professional for my foot for a long time before I did. (I think we talked about this once, right??). I STILL cannot get insurance from a D&C I had 4 years ago which turn out NEGATIVE!! I ripped that letter of explanation into shreds (how mature, huh?), it was so ridiculous. Anyway, I understand you seeing red and I hope once you get the letter, you are able to fight it and WIN!! Healthcare in this country is so infuriating, I could write a novel on how it has let so many of us down!
xo
It'll get approved. While I was dealing with my insurance, I got to talk to a lot of people, and the consensus there is that it seems the insurance companies love to give you an initial kick and will only approve costly expenses if you fight them for it.
I would also suggest getting another opinion - 3rd, 4th, whatever - so that there is overwhelming evidence that this is THE action step for you. Also, try to find studies. ALSO, the surgeon's office should be able to file the appeal on your behalf and go to a peer-to-peer review, if necessary.
It'll workout. Keep us posted. Hugs.
Ooooh, give her hell, girl! She has no idea. :o)
(Good luck though, for serious. I know how badly you want this to be over.)
