Tuesday Trial: h2o audio Waterproof Headphones Review + Giveaway

A few weeks ago h2o audio asked me to review their Interval 4G Waterproof Headphone System for iPod shuffle (4th Gen). The timing couldn't be better with my injury keeping me off the roads and in the pool so I was pretty excited to test this thing out. The one snag? They didn't have one for my older generation iPod so I had to borrow the brand new one I just bought Spike for Christmas with the promise that if anything happens to it, I would replace it! *Fingers crossed*

What h20 audio sez: The Interval is the only waterproof iPod case designed just for swimmers! If you’re an iTunes user, there’s no better way to bring your own personal soundtrack into the pool. The waterproof case for the iPod shuffle 4th generation has integrated Surge 2G headphones and easily attaches to almost any swim goggle. Finally swimmers can have the same advantage of training with music that dry land athletes have enjoyed for years. Train harder, swim longer and have more fun doing it with the Interval 4G.

Initial Thoughts:
I first learned about this product when Amanda and SUAR reviewed it. They seemed to like it and, considering I spend a lot of time bored out of my mind aqua slogging and/or taking my sweet @ss time doing laps, I thought having music might help me pass the time faster. Obviously I was nervous about Spike's iPod getting ruined but after I tested it out at home and checked the seal I was already convinced this baby was going to do great.

Set up is pretty straight forward;
Plug in the iPod, attach the case to your goggles...

Close the case to seal and voila!
You are ready to rock!

Trial: Ok, here's the thing, although I have used it at the pool, taking pictures at the public pool is a little sketch. So this weekend I had Spike paparazzi me at the lake where it's a little more acceptable to have a camera out and about.

Plugged in and ready to swim!

The controls are super easy to get to and work.
(Apparently I did not have it on very straight though!)

Now, obviously I'm no seasoned pro--I look at these pictures and I can't even tell you if I have good form, if my head is positioned correctly, etc...total newbie over here. But what I can tell you is that it works, Spike's iPod continues to function, I've yet to find any water inside the case, and time flies while swimming with this thing on. It's not very practical for an OWS as I would learn this day, too much disorganization (Read: Kids) at a lake, but it's perfect to break up the monotony of laps at the pool and aqua slogging. The controls are easy to use and they sent me a plethora of ear pieces to choose from ranging in size. This was especially helpful since I have very small ear canals; but be warned, the ear pieces did not keep water out of my ears and I don't know about you but having water in my ears drives me insane. I am going to see if there's a way I can rig the wax I typically use to keep the water out of my ears, to fit around the ear pieces and seal out the water completely. This minor inconvenience (for me) is the only thing stopping me from saying this product is the best thing to be added to swimming since goggles or swim caps!

Now time for the really exciting stuff, h2o audio is running a "Heat Wave" promo this week only, offering a deal a day on various products and they've given me the heads-up that tomorrow, Wednesday August 10th, they're offering up this awesome product for $20 off the retail price (Retails at $99.99) when you use the promo code: "Cannonball" at the checkout!

Even better... they've also offered up a pair of Flex Waterproof All Sport Buds to one of my lucky readers! The contest will be open until 8:00 am EST, Thursday August 11th, after which time this post will close for comments and the winner will be announced on 3 Things Thursday.

Thanks h2o audio for allowing me to review this product, it's been a welcome addition to my Xtrain Xtravaganza!!!

I follow h2o Audio on FB AND on Twitter :)

Funny swim story? Can't think of anything "funny" except at the first OWS clinic of the season, we had this awesome swim coach there to teach sighting and I had to bring my 2 y/o daughter since I had no one to watch her. A tri friends daughter (19) came along and agreed to play with Lola on the shore of the lake while we swam and 2 mins into the clinic my daughter peed her pants. I did not have a change of clothes since she has been potty trained FOREVER> I had to pack up and leave :( Not funny then but kind of funny now...

I don't swim often or have an ipod shuffle so I don't want to be considered for the prize. However, I have a funny-ish swim story.
I have done one tri but it was a super sprint and the events were out of order (run, bike, then swim). It was March in Northern Va (read: chilly) so they had the swim last in a heated indoor pool. As I entered the pool, I completely forgot that it is 6 feet deep at the shallowest end where we entered. I slid in and sank to the bottom and took in a ton of water! Great way to begin my not-so-good ending to my first tri.

Followed on twitter! I don't swim but I look like I do after my runs. Killed a few headphones and even had swimmer's ear after a long run.

Your form looks much better than mine. I pretty much doggy paddle w/ my upper body, then one of my legs does the breaststroke while the other kicks. I think I'll stick to running.

I followed on Twitter and liked on facebook!

Funny Swim Story? Back in Junior Highschool I used to swim competitively. We drove about 3 hours for a swim meet where I was only doing one event - the Individual Medley. The team used to play cards to pass the time. I ended up missing my event because we were playing a game of "spit"

Aghhh I would so love to try this right now!!! And I think I even have the right iPod. if not, my Bday is coming up anyway. hehe

Nice swim suit, BTW! ;) And your form looks great to me, but what do I know? haha

I liked H20 on FB and now following on Twitter.

Funny story? You mean like the fact that I was wearing my swim cap SIDEWAYS for the first 3 weeks I was swimming, and a friend only pointed it out to me when I posted some wet suit pics and she could tell it was on sideways. Dohhhhh. Newb = me.

Disclaimer: I dont swim, so please don't include me in your drawing.

You are brave to swim in a lake. Ew slimy bottom and murky water. Spike is pretty brave to let you swim with his iPod. Pretty cool that they make waterproof thingies for music now.

I think my previous blog comment was eaten by my Internet (on some post from last week) and no offense but I was too irritated to start over. So just FYI, I'm not ignoring you.

Soooooo.

I hope rungs 5-9 fly by. Let's practice our ladder climbing skills. And at least you can still workout....... I'm not saying I'm worse off, but my exercise of the day is taking 3 flights of stairs at work... :)

I use the SwimP3 player, it uses bone conduction so it goes on your cheek and not in your ears, so if you don't like the water in your ears you could try it out. It's not as nice as having your ipod, but it works really well. Stroke looks good, but in the first pic of you swimming it looks like there is an otter or something just in front of you.

I've heard only good things about the H2O Audio. However, I don't know if would/wouldn't like swimming with one. One of the things I like about swimming is having the ability to completely zone out. This works best in the pool (I nearly got run over my a 50ft yacht in Lake Michigan last weekend by not paying attention).

It's hard to tell from pictures rather than video, but it looks like you have a pretty good stroke for a newbie. And you are swimming in a lake!!! Hardcore! If anything, I would say that your hips might be a little low (increasing drag). If your pool has pull buoys available, give one of those a try and it'll lift up your hips.

I follow them on twitter! I really have to just buy these because the pool can be so boring after a while.

If I swim enough, will I have killer arms like yours?

I don't think I have a funny swimming story, but I do have 2 creepy ones. I haven't had any luck finding a time to go to the pool at my gym, because every time that I'm there there's also a big group of gross older men who just sit in the hot tub and stare at me. Hate it. Also, in swimming class in middle school, our teachers claimed that we got too much water in the locker room after class so they mandated that we must fully remove our swimsuits while in the shower, then make our way nude to the area where our towels were. They'd watch us from their office window the whole time to be sure that we were 'following the rules.' Was SUPER awkward, and probably illegal.
