Miles Planned/Ran: Wouldn't you know, I logged another zero mileage month. We are fast approaching the six month mark. Awesome.
Rest Days Planned/Taken: How ever many needed / 6
Xtraining Workouts Planned/Ran: As many as possible / 25
Most Enjoyable Workout: My bike date w/ SunRunner at Hudson Mills Metro Park at the beginning of the month before they took xtraining away from me, again.
Best Workout Advice Received: (From the personal trainer at the gym) "While lifting free weights, go for lighter weights and more, faster reps to get toned arms and avoid bulking up." I am already reaping the benefits of this advice.
Current Reads: (Reading) Run Like A Girl, How strong women make happy lives by Mina Samuels; I received this book to review and am almost finished. Stay tuned for the review and a giveaway!!!
(Finished) Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte; When I searched this for the Amazon link I realized they are making this into a movie! Nice! Definitely a classic worth reading although so many books have used this same story line as inspiration that I felt it very familiar though I had never read it before in my life. A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick; I would just like to say that this was reliably predictable and probably the worst book I've read in awhile. The over-dramatized sexual tension of the main characters was agonizing to endure.

Current Drink: Back to the ol' water for life routine.
Current Song: Loving both: "Moves like Jagger" - Maroon 5 & Christina Aguilera and "Cheers (Drink to That)" - Rihanna
Current Wish-List: I lurve this zombietastic shirt (size Small please, thanks) and this adorey-able pendant.
Current Need: An end in sight.
Current Triumph: I'm still walking! I might not be allowed to do anything else but at least I'm still allotted this small bit of freedom.
Current Bane of my Existence: This.
Current Goal: (Repeated from March, April, May, June, and July) To stay positive and focused on active recovery/xtraining so I can hit the ground running sooner rather than later. I will get through this, this will all be behind me soon enough, I will not give up...
Current Indulgence: Randomly enough, freshly prepared vege's as Spike and I attempt to stop eating out so much and I learn to cook.
Current Blessings: The continued love, encouragement, and support from my family, friends, readers, and Spike throughout this never-effing-ending injury saga.
Current Excitement: A friend's wedding this weekend, a weekend getaway with Spike's friends in a few weeks, visiting my brother for his birthday, dropping down from the Capital City River Run Half Marathon to the 5k and walking it because I'll be d@mned if I loose my money on another race I already paid for. Anyone in the Mid-Michigan area wanna join me as I attempt to fend off the sweepers?!?!
How'd your August shape up?!?!
Running is what you make of it, make it an Adventure!™

My old roomie read A Reliable Wife for a book club and she said it was awful!
The graphic on this one made me LOL. :)
"Redhead" and "Cook" in the same blog = ha! You are funny!
Stay positive. Everything will work out.
I can't beelive you read Jane Eyre! We read that in 10th grade and I thought it was just a slow read! Funny they are making it into a movie now! keep your head up girl - you will heal and be back! We are here for you!
look at all that swimming! and cycling! and walking! you know how to keep moving. :-)
That zombie shirt is awesome! Love me a good zombie movie. But Jane Eyre? Seriously? Why voluntarily torture yourself like that??? I wished I knew you in HS. Then I could have cheated off your for the Jane Eyre test. haha
You would shop at hot topic. Though, that's a fairly normal shirt considering the store...
Take up wheelchair racing! ;)
Here's to good news and progress in September.... Fingers, toes, eyes crossed.
Loving the zombie shirt :)
I love 'moves like Jagger' too! It's such a fun, upbeat song.
If you liked Jane Eyre, you might give Jean Rhys' Wide Sargasso Sea, which acts as a prequel to Jane, a read. I had to read it in college and enjoyed it a lot.
Classic Lit. and Zombies are both in my wheelhouse!
That photo-shopped picture is AWESOME, haha. Not the reason you had to make it, just that you Did. ;)
I'm starting to read The Paris Wife - so far, so goood.
My August proved to be the most insane, whirlwind month of the year. Let's hope it holds the standard, rather than setting it. :p
I wanted to tell you about my husband. Both you and my husband have greatly inspired me to run. I mostly run to keep fit and be able to enjoy food guilt free, but I like to call myself a "runner".
Probably in mid-2009, my husband's cousin told us about the Vibram shoes. (Stay with me, here, ok?) He is a doctor and was researching shoes to help alleviate his struggles with chronic foot pain that was leading to severe back pain. My husband and I both got a pair too - for running. We saw the facts about your foot's arch and were convinced.
Now I was just starting to run, so the foot re-training process was easy for me. My husband, well, he did not go as slowly as he should have and wound up with a horrible stress fracture in his foot. He went to a doctor who X-rayed it, told him what it was and told him to stay off his foot for the next 6 weeks. (impossible for my husband to do, but that's another story.) 6 weeks later, my husband went back for the follow up and the doctor said all was well.
we moved to TX (the doc was in MI) and my husband tried to run, but the pain stopped him immediately. He never went to another doctor, instead he did other training and rested his foot. That was for sure late 2009.
Only this last 2 months has he been able to run, without pain. He can run like he used to - he's a real runner, I'm more of a jogger, and his mileage is down by about 4 miles, but his time is still pretty good.
But the point of this uber-long comment is to give an example that it took over a year for him to heal, however he healed.
You will too. :) Try not to stress about it, and let your body heal. It will. :)
p.s. by "your foot's arch" i meant anyone's foot arch. :)
Hang in there Red!
Years from now you won't even remember how long you were "laid up".
Of course, years from now you won't remember what you ate for breakfast either, but....
Hang in there Red. - Gator Mike
Hey Morgan, i'm still so amazed by your positive outlook. I have been down on my own running this summer but I keep telling myself to just keep a good attitude like Morgan.
I'll have to check out those books. I'm not much of a reader but i have read 2 bookes already this week (360 pages each!!) Apparently i'm on a reading kick. Hang in there my friend!
It’s a nice post! Thanks a lot for sharing your ideas with us! I hope to read your future post as they help me a lot through the knowledge and ideas that you impart to us readers! More power to your site.
Shoulder Exercise
I love Alexander! but I am still mad at your leg.
Great post, hang in there!
Jane Eyre is already a movie...my daughter says it doesn't do the book justice, though. She's in 9th grade and very opinionated.
I hope that September is the month that your leg decides to get with the program!
If you're looking for more books, I thought State of Wonder by Ann Patchett was great!
This August has been one of the best months ever because of my Iceland trip :)
I'd totally walk the 5k with you if I were in Michigan!! Your continued positive attitude is such a huge inspiration to me.
I think I've figured out what your problem is - too much water and vegetables. :)
Marlene - bite your tongue young woman.
Now Red -- yesterday was such an on day for me I had the Mad Moves Like Jagger. I was dancing up a storm. Maybe I'll video my moves like jagger and when you have a bad day this will make you laugh and then you'll get core work in that way as well. Deal?
so random that i watched Jane Eyre today after you finished reading it. had no idea. it was pretty good actually. :)
love you boo. bunches and bunches. hang in there.
your positive attitude always makes me smile. :-)
not that i'm the most experienced personal trainer but i am certified...try going very slowly (4 count) on the "down phase" (eccentric contraction)...that'll give you very nice results!! not that your guns need much advice.
SO will we once again be at the starting line of Brooksie in civilian clothing????? Hang in there Red, we're tough in the Mitten state!
When you are back in the saddle (ha ha) we must go ride at the park again. Fall is coming, and the trees will be beautiful.
We should also try the Falling Waters trail in Jackson which is even nicer.
Sorry to hear that you still aren't back in the saddle yet. My sentiments are just like Jennifer's - eventually you will heal.
If it's any consolation, your stress fracture page inspired me to setup a page for Runners knee/IT band to chronicle my adventures with that fun stuff.
Even though we have different injuries, I've thought of us as injury twins, because we got injured around the same time. I'm starting to feel a little bit better now. Not back to running yet, but I did 20 min of elliptical on Monday and felt okay. Anyways, my point is that you will get better, and I hope in the meantime that you find peace since it just sounds tough for you right now.
Chin up darling :)
You are amazing and I hope you keep blogging no matter WHAT your attitude is on any given day because you provide hope and a realistic perspective to others in the same position as you who may or may not feel strong enough to put themselves out tehre like you have. Thank you for being the voice to those who can't speak.
Lauren
Good luck for the 5k - I'm with you on the whole not wasting money! Hope you do beat the sweepers ;)
I've gotta tell you--I lost 2 inches off my waist lifting heavy free weights. You won't bulk up because you don't have enough testosterone. I do a mix of heavy weights with low reps and lighter weights with more reps. Though I guess I should just be happy people are lifting--you'll be amazed at how good you feel when you can finally run again--my strength helped me hold onto my speed. Endurance is quite another thing. Anyway, the Ninja is amazing.
Walking is a GOOD thing, let's focus on that!! I remember days last spring I couldn't even do that!
I know, more than most out there, what you're going through and though this may not be very calming...one day, all this crap will be a distant memory!! It will!
i can't believe it's been 6 months, that totally seems impossible. I know Jill has been going through something similar so i say listen to anything she says :)
I wish I could be as positive as you are with even 50% of things in my life. I hope the news is good this coming week!!
BUT if worse comes to worse, I was watching Extreme Couponers yesterday on TLC and these people spend like 30 hours a week on couponing and get thousands of dollars of stuff FREE! I almost was convinced to give up running for couponing. It's an idea. No?
Hang in there Morgan!!!!! We're all pulling for you!
