3 Things Thursday

In honor of my trip to NYC tomorrow I thought I'd use today's "3 Things Thursday" to post about the three things I'm most excited about: (Besides the obvious, duh!)

  1. Meeting my Running Idol... At long last I FINALLY get to formally (as opposed to screaming at him as he ran past me while I spectated CM10 last year) meet my running idol, The Running Laminator. We're meeting up for lunch tomorrow after I arrive and I can't wait to pick his brain about all things running and basically just soak up some of his awesomeness. (Maybe it'll heal my leg?)

I like to think my spectating helped him score his sub-3 marathon that day!

  2. High Line Park... I have been green eyeing all you NYC blogger's that regularly run this park and finally, at long last, I will get to see it myself! I'm MAJORLY disappointed I will not get to run this, or any place in NYC for that matter (Central Park I'll be back for you someday!), but thankful at the very least to be able take a stroll there and see the city from it's height. Prepare for ungodly amounts of pics...

    Seriously, how amazing is this?!?!

    The High Line Website

  3. The Guggenheim... Plans for Sunday got a bit discombobulated so I've found myself with time to kill alone before I catch my plane and have decided to spend it perusing the Guggenheim. My museum nerdery runs deep and I can't wait to get lost there.

T-minus 25.5 hours til I land!!! T-minus 28.5 hours til the rest of the girls start pouring in and then we take NYC by storm!!! Can't wait to explore the city, binge on local awesomesauce eats, drink my face off (you know like 2 whole drinks), and hang out with some amazing peeps!
Have you ever been to NYC? What are you must-see/go-to places?!?!

That park looks sweet!!!

Be careful in the Guggenheim, when I went there for a trip with my family, I went in the bathroom and went out the door that looked exactly like the one I came in and ended up getting lost for like an hour. There is no PA system in the museum, so I had to just eventually find the entrance.

If you have time, you need to eat brunch at Friend of a Farmer. We went to NYC earlier this month and had brunch there. There was a line, but they make sure you arent out there too long. But any wait was totally worth it. It was so so so so good. When I go back I am eating there again.

We didnt get to eat here bc of time constraints but Eatly had really high reviews. We went inside and it was a HUGE Italian market. They had pasta, fish, meat, cheese, gelato, chocolate and a nice rooftop bar. If you do go, you may want to figure out how to navigate it before going. It was kind of confusing!

Have an awesome time!

When you're at high line park- there's a row of benches that overlook the street. Sit there for a while it is SO relaxing and cool. (also, if you have a clear day, you'll be able to see the statue of liberty when you are walking south.) Also get yourself an H&H bagel. They are delicious.

How exciting! I've been to NYC but can't offer much advice on what to do/see. Enjoy yourself.

Yay for NYC and meeting the LAM!
I've been there briefly after a Bermuda cruise and went through Central Park, alas I was not yet 'a runner'. There'a a chance I'll be back in November. Fingers crossed.
Have a great trip!

I love the food and atmosphere of this place, plus live jazz at night: http://www.garagerest.com/

This place (in west 4, never been to the other one) is a hole in the wall but has the best falafel I've ever tasted: http://mamouns.com/

And this french toast is AMAZING: http://www.frankiesspuntino.com/17/17_brunch.html

(Lived in the NYC area for 7 years between college and work -- in the same Trump Tower from the Apprentice, fun times!)

As for sightseeing, if you're planning on going to the Empire State building, GO SUPER EARLY when it first opens, otherwise it can easily be 2 hours in line. And unless you're there for a week, it's not worth visiting the Statue of Liberty, too much wasted time. Go to Battery Park, where you can see it from a distance.

And there's a bunch of shops on Broadway, in SoHo with cheap clothes (those "in style clothes that are in now but you don't want to spend a fortune to buy them"). Amsterdam Boutique is the only one I remember the name, but they're all within a couple of blocks of each other.

And don't forget the HUGE H&M on 5th Avenue (near 50th street, I never remember exactly where it is, but a couple of blocks from Rockefeller Center).

Ahh can't wait to be back on the East coast and be close enough for weekend NYC adventures!!! :)

Take TONS of pics of the Hyline park, I've heard so much about it and I'm very curious, ha.

Have FUN!

I was really underwhelmed with NYC, and I didn't really enjoy it too much. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I went, and I'm glad I went alone so I could do exactly what I wanted, but it was a hard city for me to enjoy, in general.

Some things I did like, though:

-Went to a concert on a boat in the Harbor. I would suggest some sort of boat riding.

-Loved the American Museum of Natural History. I had been wanting to see a real life Archaeopteryx fossil since the 3rd grade, and I probably stood and looked at just them for an hour.

-Got chills just being in CBGB, but it's gone, so the only other really cool music landmark that I remember is the John Lennon memorial in Central Park. Went to a couple other music clubs, but they were the same type of dingy bars as anywhere else.

-I spent about 2 hours just sitting and watching the Red-Tail Hawks around Central Park. I didn't realize they were semi-famous until I got back home.

-I also really liked the game I went to at Shea Stadium for as much as it got made fun of over the years. Of course I'm sure its replacement, Citi Field, is much nicer, but Citi Field didn't ever have the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Miles Davis, or Grand Funk play there.

There is no part of NYC you shouldn't go b/c it is all awesome but let me say this:

1- if you can go to Arthur Ave in the Bronx for Italian eats. Forget Little Italy in Manhattan as it is no longer what it used to be and AAve is the place.

2- Go to Otto on the East Side. It is Mario Batali's pizza joint and is incredibly awesome.

3- Be sure to head to the Wall Street area and just soak in the vibe that is that area (especially during a week day like Friday.)

4- Columbus Circle is a ton of fun to walk around and shop and see Central Park as well.

I miss NYC tons. Have a great time and can't wait to see the pics.

How funny: A few days ago, I came across the High Line Park site and got so excited about it. I'll be in New York in November, so I've been looking forward to that. I haven't been to the Guggenheim, so I can't wait to hear how that goes! The Met is cool and HUGE, if you want an overwhelming museum. And I'm a bit of a Broadway nut, so I have to go see at least one show when I'm there -- the TKTS booths save money!

I'm also looking foward to pommes frites -- very yummy French fries that you dip in flavored mayonnaise. I know it sounds disgusting, but OMG, so good!

Have fun in NYC!!

That is awesome that you are going to NYC! Not sure if you have been to Ground Zero yet, but I would go there, since we are so close to the 10 year anniversary of 9/11.

That is awesome that you are meeting Lam! Honestly he is one of my running idols too, haha

That park looks great to run on!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE NYC! I live close enough that I make sure there's at least one trip/year. High Line Park is on my list of places to go next.

Favorites there--MOMA (haven't hit Gug. yet but tell us how it is!); running CP (you will do it one day); people watching on Upper East Side; and my favorite restaurant of all time--Balthazar in Soho. Have a blast!!

I LOVE me some NYC! The NYC half that goes through Central Park is my fav race I have ever done.
We tend to eat (a lot) when we are there. Last time, we hit some great places:
Basso56
The National
BrGr
Little Owl
Nobu
Have a blast!!

The high line park is really fun to walk. Probably better than running anyway to enjoy the scenery. Enjoy!

The Guggenheim sounds awesome. I love the MOMA, if you have extra time or your outdoor activities get rained out...

I see you had to cancel your trip because of Irene. Understandable. I hope when you're able to reschedule, you'll be able to run again. I miss NY so much. I used to work close to the Brooklyn Bridge and runs over the bridge during my lunch hour were one of my favorite things. Honestly, IMHO, even better than running Central Park, which I've done as well.

So much to see and do! Shopping, food, people watching, museums. I'm more of a Brooklyn girl at heart, so don't forget the outer boroughs! Especially for food!
