- "The 4th Rung"... I know you're here to hear about how my doctor appointment went this morning but I needed to share this little tidbit that happened Monday first; While at PT I jokingly asked my PT if he was going to give me a heads up on what he'd be reporting to my sports doc prior to today's appointment, specifically about when I'd be running again. Without skipping a beat he informed me that I was nowhere near being able to run yet, "If running were the 10th and top-most rung of a ladder, you my dear are only on the 4th rung. You still have a ways to go." I finished the session in silence, restraining the tears until I was alone in my car after. It was the last thing I had thought he would say. I am obviously aware that I am not your standard stress fracture case but I really felt like I had made significant progress both on the healing front and in PT. Between this not-so-pep talk and some pain I've suddenly been having, suffice it to say I have been discouraged all week leading up to today's appointment...
- Forced Indifference... With that said, I walked in to my appointment this morning with little to no expectations. Every appointment I have had since March I have walked in with high hopes only to leave disappointed. Rinse, repeat, for FIVE months. For once I remained indifferent as he pulled up my x-rays and wouldn't you know, they were clean!
BUT, But, but, the pain I'm experiencing was a cause for concern so he sent me over to get a CT scan to make sure there wasn't anything else going on that the x-ray wasn't picking up. I'm still waiting to hear back, they said he'd get the report this afternoon but he warned me I might not hear from him until tomorrow morning. So I don't get to end this with any real news other than my bone at the very least is healed and so long as that CT scan comes back clean as well I can FINALLY begin my R2R despite what my PT said. I'm trying to remain indifferent so I can avoid disappointment but my fingers are still crossed and this is definitely a step in the right direction.
Stay tuned for more deets tomorrow.
- SYTYCD... And finally, FWIW, Melanie is totally rocking my socks off and has my vote to win. Anyone else wanna place a bet? :)

i'm gonna shake my fat ass with joy because your bone is healed!!! jiggle jiggle joooo!
Crossing my fingers for you! And totally agree about Melanie - she is A.Maz.inG!
Yeah for your bone finally f$##ing Healing! This is awesome news. And so great to walk away with good news! Are you still making a move to wordpress from blogspot or was that someone else I'm thinking of?
10 rungs? Maybe it is like a game of monopoly. You know, there is a card that tells you to "take a ride on the Reading Railroad"? Maybe there is the "Go to the 10th rung" card. I think it probably involves horse steroids. Or Muscle Milk. Same thing, really.
Seriously though.
YAYYY bone healing.
BOOOO insensitive doc.
Keeping my fingers crossed. I have to say that sometimes the pain we feel after we are healed can be a bit phantom, imho. I still get it here and there but can run w/o pain and sustain that for the following 24 hours. We are so tuned into looking/expecting that pain that I believe we "feel" it. Really hoping this is the case for you!!
So great to hear that your bone is healed! I hope you continue to get awesome reports from the doctor! You are one tough cookie!
Yay for the bone being healed, but I hope the pain is nothing serious! Keeping my fingers crossed for you! :)
I didn't get into SYTYCD this year... I wish I had!
Throwing together as many positive thoughts as my tiny brain can muster for the news tomorrow. You so thoroughly deserve to be healed, regardless of the outcome. Wishing you the best.
HEALED HEALED HEALED! Whew. I know the results of the CT could say anything, but your bone finally came around :) SO happy to hear that, girl.
YAY! :o)
Fingers crossed for you! But remember pain is normal even after it's healed. Mine ached.. just use that as a gadge on how to increase or decrease. You've got this!
Awesome on your bone being finally healed! Hope the PT and recovery keep going well!
Since I am pretty much just like you in terms of recovery - what are the other 6 rungs on the ladder? I am finally starting to feel like myself again, and maybe I can run in about a month I would guess, I need to ask my PT person what she thinks.
It's weird recently I've gotten a lot of satisfaction out of doing yoga well, and crushing my PT regimes. It is sort of the same high I get out of running. I've started to not miss running as much anymore. I'm just happy that I finally feel less daily pain now.
Good luck!
Your bone is healed!!! AWESOME! That seriously stinks about PT, though. I guess keep climbing the ladder!
Melanie better win SYTYCD this year. She rocks.
See you later!
Slow and steady right? I know my coach had TWO stress fractures to deal with and she is now gearing up for her next Ironman. It took a long time and she really had to suck it up mentally but she is now running stronger than ever.
Are you the inventor of three things thursday?
Keep on climbing!
I hope that you get good news! You damn sure deserve it after all this crude. I've only been on the shelf since June, I can't imagine 5 months of this. Totally maddening!
As a person cursed with Achilles tendonosis and currently in "das boot" prison until at least Sept. 9th
I encourage you to do what redheads (yes I'm one too) always do. Be stubborn and kept working towards your goals. Ride the bike the best you can, swim the best you can and live your life with the unbridled enthusiasm that the rest of us admire! Make sure to take a I-phone photo of your PT so you can have it waiting to step on at the finish of your eventual 5k!
I will send prayers your way that you hear some really good news soon. Hang in there!
I hope the CT scan comes back clean so that you can start moving up that ladder!
