It's been a little over three weeks since I started PT and began addressing my dumb butt situation and the rebuilding of the strength in my lower legs. I've been making steady progress and last week I was graduated to more reps, new moves, and given weights. In short, I reached a whole new level of torture! (And they're still doing the Graston/Butter-Knifing each visit!)
First up he added free weights to my theraball partial squats. Nothing too crazy there and honestly, I don't really notice too much of a difference to the moves. Then he had me up my reps of everything. Some only up to 3x but others, like all my various different squat moves, he upped to 6x. My butt never hurt so bad come Saturday!
Some of the new moves he's added include:
Bosu Squats w/ Medicine Ball; After I find my balance on the bosu ball I do a regular squat while raising the medicine ball above my head. This started off only two sets but he upped it to six on Friday and combined with all the other stuff he upped I was dying!

Next up are stool scoots. It's literally exactly what you're picturing in your head, I scoot on a stool across the room. Kinda like this, only on a stool:
Hamstring Curls; Pretty straight forward but man do my hammies crap out fast.
12 x 2 @ 30 lbsI'm of the "play it safe" camp these days and didn't want to push it this weekend when I was still feeling the affects of Friday's butt kicking on Sunday so I skipped my long ride. When I arrived to my Monday session yesterday, I made sure to let him know and he responded with "Does this mean you don't want to start on plyometrics today?"
When you graduate to plyometrics that means running will soon follow and I wish I could accurately describe how my heart fluttered upon hearing those words. Of course I assured him I was ready to take on the challenge and he warned me that we were starting out on the lighter end of the spectrum. He wasn't kidding, because my plyometrics consisted of standing on a trampoline and doing bouncing squats without my feet leaving the trampoline and then simple hopping.

Exciting huh?And yet, I was nervous standing there on the trampoline. I haven't hopped, skipped, or jumped in over four months! I made him show me what to do at least 3x before I was able to talk myself into doing it. I ended up doing about 20 x 2 of each and I have never been more aware of all the muscles in my lower legs than I was while hopping. I spent the entire time just mentally assessing how it felt doing them and if my fracture site was ok. This exercise made me realize that when I am finally cleared to run it's going to take some serious reassuring by my docs to get me going and not let me psych myself out.
Or maybe it won't be that way at all as I continue to progress and feel more comfortable doing them... Time will tell but I'm happy to report I'm one step closer to running again!
T-minus one week til the next (and hopefully last) sports doc appointment.

Hopefully you will soon get to run on a trampoline - that's fun!
OMG! So excited for you Boo. This is progress and I'm super happy. I bet you were all sorts of nervous. I can't wait to see you run again. I may seriously cry on that day. LOVE U!
BTW, Lloyd must have amazing butt syndrome for all the damn scooting he does. He can give you some tips this weekend. LOL
ROFL at Beth's comment re: Lloyd and scooting tips!!
YAY for some serious progress. Just hearing these descriptions is enough to make my butt and leg muscles cry but it must be working!!!
This is why i love PT so much. It's like having a personal trainer.
I don't think I'm coordinated enough to do some of the things he's having you work on. LOL
Soo incredibly excited for you! I really am!!!!
This makes me happy...can't wait to see you running again!! :)
cheers to making progress! It's the little things that make it all worth it!
Great news! Sounds like you are strengthening up nicely. All those squats make my butt/legs hurt just thinking about it!
It is really scary to get back to running after SO much time off. Trust your PTs and docs, keep up with your homework, and listen to your body. When my PT put me back on running after knee surgery, I had more pain post-run than expected, so I asked to get put on a more conservative walk/run. We did, and it worked beautifully. I'm not quite back to 100% yet, but it's getting there and my knee feels awesome these days.
Good to hear that your PT is going well! Sounds like you are progressing really fast!
I got owned by some PT exercises last week at my last appointment, it was kind of embarassing. I felt like she showed me the PhD version of an exercise, and I was only at the college level version or something. Hopefully you don't get embarassed if you can't do some of the exercises that the PT shows you. Gotta just do what you can, and continue working so that you can do whatever exercises are presented to you.
hang in there sweet cheeks! you've got this!
Woohooooo!!! Great job, keep it up. and thanks for giving me a preview into what I have in store for me.
I have another PT appointment tomorrow..
Do you think they do the stool skoots just to get in a good laugh?
and man, I was thinking for a few seconds while looking at that first pic, "That can't be her legs! They are so huge and hairy!" =)
You're moving on up!!
GREAT to hear your PT is going well and you are progressing! woohoo :)
Congrats on the awesome news! You are making some serious progress! It is only a matter of time now.
Good luck!
Love the graphic for the trampoline jump :) and of course, the jumping on a trampoline.
If running doesn't work out, you can always train girls to be in beer commercials ;)
Ha, posts should include more random pictures of people doing things "similar" to your exercises ;)
My fingers are crossed for the next seven days - *Last appointment*, here comes Red!
The wipe your ass scoot! Newest exercise fad.
And congrats on your tramp stamp :)
Wow, so much going on! Sorry to hear about the injury. I can sympathize -- 20 years ago I had knee surgery in March, and spent months on crutches in a Michigan winter. And PT can be so grueling. Humbling. But, it does work, and you get out what you put in.
And I just saw U2 in New York. Great show, amazing stage. And Beautiful Day is on my running list too. They had a link up with the guy on the International Space Station during the song, pretty cool.
I LOVED stool scoots. My PT thought I was nuts to went I would get gitty over them. I am off to do my own PT-less leg torture.
I love your labels.
Glad to hear things continue to go well.
Glad to hear about your PT progress! The trampoline looks like it would be fun, but incredibly painful at the same time.
I'm sorry, I still laugh when I read the expression dumb butt. I know, I know. on a more serious note, you are doing great!!
