- Progress = Success... Yesterday at PT I was given more reps and new things to add to my arsenal based on my progress. This is very good news on the recovery front and it's translated over into my biking and swimming as well. Keeping my fingers crossed this means I'll graduate to plyometrics soon because plyometrics = running to follow!
- The thing about Tri's is... So I need to set the record straight regarding me doing a Tri; I literally can't do one. I get that with all the biking and swimming it only seems logical I'd do one, but I can't run and haven't in four months! Furthermore, I have no idea when I'll finally be cleared to run. If I'm lucky, and let's face it, I haven't been the luckiest during this whole injury thing, I'll get cleared at my next follow-up appointment on August 4th. I already have an idea of what my R2R plan is going to look like and I can tell you this, IF I'm cleared then it's going to be a slow return that won't involve any significant distance til about the end of September. Tri season ends in September round these parts, so that is that. Next year? Maybe. This year, no way.
Believe me when I say I would love to put SOMETHING on my "To Do" list this year but the fact of the matter is this: I can't plan anything until I am cleared for running again. End of story. (Trust me, I've tried and all I get is the look, the one you get when you're asking stupid questions.) T-Minus 2 weeks til D-Day.
- Iron Man Lake Placid... HUGE shout out to all those gearing up to tackle Lake Placid this weekend! I have butterflies in my stomach just thinking about you guys out there and will be obsessively checking my phone for updates. Good luck to all those racing, especially Navy Steve, Little J, and my girl Emily!

Thinking good thoughts that you're cleared for takeoff soon. I can imagine -- just a little bit -- how frustrated you must be. :/
Hooray for progress!! Keeping fingers crossed for the follow-up appt!
woo hoo! congrats on the progress. :)
So it appears you have been getting bombarded by the tri pushers also? lol
Keeping fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly and your R2R is SOONER than later!
Congrats on your success with PT! Keep it up, girl!
Big ol' Tri disclaimer.
Maybe you could do aquabike?
It is a non-running race.
And that would be my lazy attempt at an unofficial haiku because it has the wrong syllables.
Glad PT is going well still!!!
I hear ya.. it's hard to plan out anything when you're so uncertain about running. Hang in there a little longer :)
I think with my recent purchase of Brownie the Wonder Cruiser it should be clear I have no interest in doing a triathlon, despite years of peer pressure.
I like my biking the way I like my swimming: slow and purposeless and stress-free.
Luckily I will be getting plenty of both on my beach vacation (commencing in T-minus 5 hours and 40 minutes).
Stay cool, lady. I'll see you when I get back. :)
Yay progress. So awesome.
Loving all the people doing IMLP - so freaking amazing.
This will be your year of healing. Think of it as a year of personal growth in patience and determination more than adding medals and finish times. I know you'll get back there and when you do you will be stronger than before. I pray the time passes quickly and your thoughts stay positive until you get the all three (bike, swim & run) clear!
Very glad to read that your PT is going well. Hopefully you'll be out there running, sweating, and withering with the rest of us when August rolls around. Looks like you're kicking the crap out the cross-training in the meantime. Your determination is inspiring.
If it was something you are interested in you could do a tri-relay. I don't swim or bike, but I did the running part of a relay team. It was a lot of fun and a good way to be part of a tri with out actually doing the whole thing.
Glad to hear things are starting to look up for you!
Tri or no-tri, the fact that you have been biking and swimming is going to do wonders for your comeback. Understandably, you'll need to take it easy (which it sounds like you plan on), but I bet you will surprised how much endurance you have retained.
I hope you keep getting good news!
So sorry to hear about you running injury the last few months. Hang in there and when you DO want to mess with a TRI I would be more than willing to help in any way I can w/advice gear etc.
So glad to hear about your PT success and can't wait to hear about your eventual running success too.
As for tris, no need to feel pressured. :)
Like usual, I could easily copy and paste your blog post and use it on my blog!
Good to hear that you are graduating to more PT exercises, funny how things like that make us excited, haha My routine now is like 17 different exercises or stretches I think.
Yesterday I did yoga for the firs time in a long while, I thought it was good. A lot of the poses are things that I do for my rehab exercises, you might want to look into it for you.
My hope is that I can run in about a month, so maybe we will start running at the same time!
glad PT is going well!
maybe you could travel somewhere warm and fun to do a tri after the season is over in michigan :)
logical thinking about why you shouldn't do a race...they have beaten the runner out of you, we are too dumb to normally think about races before diving in
you could aquabike!!!
That's ok, I can't swim worth crap and it has nothing to do with injuries. So, I probably can't do a tri either.
So glad your recovery in going well! Hoping you get great news at your next appointment!
GR half in October?? :O)
I'm counting down with you =)
i totally understand that there is no reason to start thinking or planning for anything until you get the green light. i can't imagine how much self control that must require. you are being smart! good work!
