- Baby Ella... Tuesday my Beaker Luv celebrated
BabyRJ's 2nd birthday by welcoming his new baby sister into the world! Me thinks this is an early warning that Miss Ella will not be living in her big brother's shadow but rather stealing the spotlight for herself! It is absolutely killing me not being there like I was when she had RJ but thankfully I will get to see them both very soon as we have a trip planned for the end of the month.
What do you think the odds are of two siblings being born on the same day? (Besides twins of course) - Runnerd on Wheels... After learning that I would not be cleared for running for quite some time, yet again, I decided the best way to get my mind off the disappointing news was to finally get a legit road bike. I've been searching for a few weeks now and with B.o.B's help I scored this mint condition Schwinn Sprint:
I've already gotten her fitted (big shout out to Two Wheel Tango in A2) and given some advice regarding holding off on clips til the stress fracture was healed, how to get the front wheel on and off, etc... This morning I took her for a spin and it was actually the first time I have ever even rode (ridden?) a road bike! I was a bit wobbly but thankfully no spills right out the gate and I'm loving how light and fast she is. I'm def looking forward to bonding with Leela over the next few weeks but don't call me a cyclist just yet!
EDIT: It has been brought to my attention that the kickstand makes my road bike less legit... to which I say, that is why I'm not a cyclist, because I had no clue it wasn't supposed to be on there! LOL! - A slice of humble pie... That's what PT (Physical Therapy) was last night! Holy weak muscles Batman! I spent most of the assessment in amazement at how my meager resistance barely registered as he tested my different muscle groups. I have a LOT of work ahead of me but the good news is he said he'll have me running better than I ever have before AND he is a trained gait specialist so I will finally get my gait madness straightened out! I'm really excited about this PT business and coming back stronger than ever! Oh and did I mention it's been a glorious boot-free 48 hours? All hail the left shoe!
Have you ever been to PT? What did you think of it and more importantly, how long did you keep up the exercises they gave you?

I went to PT for my knee and absolutely loved it. It's torture, but in a good way. I kept up with my exercises for about 6mo, then kind of faded away...
Wow! That bike looks brand new! And you've already named her?? If that doesn't make you a cyclist, I don't know what does :)
Sweet ride.
My last PT session was for my foot and the only 'exercise' I was given was to ice. I can handle that.
I do have to foam roll like a mofo but that's just good runner stuff.
Cyclosnobs are going to point and laugh at your kick stand.
Such a beautiful baby girl. I was born exactly 2 years after my brother too! I'm sure he was thrilled to get me as a birthday present. At least the birthday parties were always fun.
Love the new purple bike. I'm sure you'll make riding an adventure too. Next thing you know you'll be a triathlete.
Good luck with PT. Sounds like it should work wonders for you.
LOL.... you paid extra for a kickstand... I wasn't going to say anything until Greg mentioned it. I think all Therapist humble you in the beginning, I know mine did. You'll be better for it in the long run. HA, pun intended....
nice new wheels!! everyone is getting into biking! i really like it, so much more than i ever thought possible.
sounds like a great PT who will fix you right up.
I hate doing exercises that show me just how weak I actually am! Good luck with PT.
Also, SAWEET bike!! I love the purple.
I have done PT a lot! For both knees and my scoliosis. The last time was for IT Band issues, and while the strengthening exercises went by the wayside fairly quickly, I still do the stretches 6+ years later!
yay! ist I love baby Ella! she's beautiful!
2nd I love Leela! she's a purple princess and you will really bond.
3rd I love PT!
I love you and I'm so happy to see you are loving you're left shoe again.
(I swear I am not on drugs this AM, just really happy!)
Wow - that is crazy they were born on the same day! I have been to PT and it really helps - they seem to know a lot of stuff. Seems like you have a great one so hopefully he will help you get back on the road and strong!
LOVE the bike :)
I went to PT for about 4 weeks in Feb 2010 for my shins splints and an IT band issues. I stuck with my exercises for a couple of weeks after PT was over and occasionally I still do them when I'm doing my normal post run stretching. And actually my husband has some IT band issues right now so I showed him my PT exercises and he has been doing those daily :)
I went to a few PTs before I found one I love. When I was really hurting I was really good about doing the exercises prescribed religiously. After not so much...
Yay for no boot! :)
oooo, leela is sexy!
i've never had pt, so i'm going to have to learn from the wisdom you share :)
You should get some clipless pedals too. :)
I think the kickstand makes your bike look more...sophisticated?! : )
So happy you're out of the boot! I'm sure your foot feels relieved to be free!!!
Nice bike! When we move from NYC one day I hope to get myself a bike too! I'm too much of a wuss to ride here!
I've been in PT for knees and my shoulder. I've kept up some of the exercises for my shoulder and can tell when I've been slacking on them. Sounds like you found the right guy to help you come back strong! We all better look out cause you'll be setting PRs like mad! Good luck!
YAY baby congrats and bike congrats!! yes I've been to PT's, both times a huge disappointment. I know how weak my calves are and hips..yes it's contributing to my injuries.. so go home and get stronger. That's all I get. The bike will help your hips and glutes.
Congrats to all on the new arrival! Sharing a Birthday - awesome and awful all at the same time. :)
CONGRATS on your new wheels! So pretty!!
lovin' the road bike, girl! I got a road bike last year when I went through the hell that was being injured for 8 straight months, and I loved it. It's a great way to crosstrain. I didn't have the clipless set up until this year, so don't you worry! you sound right on track :) Have fun with it!!
ha, as soon as i saw the pic i was going to give you shit about the kickstand. :)
Baby ella is SO sweet! Can't believe she was born on her big brother's birthday!
LOVE your new bike - so sweet!
Yay for babies and new bikes and bootless feet! :)
I've been to pt and I really liked it. I wish that I had continued to go after the pain stopped...I think it would have been a good thing to keep up everything...because I didn't do that too much on my own.
Love, love my PT (but he's leaving - boo hoo :( ) - he is very hands on, lots of deep tissue ouchie hurt, but also very big on lots of exercises and strengthening in the right places - he's told me I will probably have to keep up with them forever, and always have to keep on top of "twinges" ... now I just have to find another "runner" PT who will understand my insanity ;)
Oh, and the baby date thing - we don't have any the same day with our five, but the numbers all add up - for a number nerd like me ;) ... the first four "greats" in our family were all born on a niece/nephew b/day - that was pretty freaky, no.5 "great" ruined the trend though ha ha!
Confession: when I got on my first road bike (borrowed) I wondered where the kick stand was too! I guess when you spend that much on a bike you dint ever leave it unattended? :0)
Your purple bike is awesome - love the color and it will be perfect for cross training!
The bike looks awesome, and I had no idea either that a kickstand makes the bike less legit. Holy crap! Don't all bikes come with kickstands??
I have a friend who has a younger brother exactly 10 years younger than him. It's totally crazy.
I've been in PT a few different times. I'm usually pretty good about keeping up with the exercises for a few months afterwards. (Typically until I'm running totally pain free again.) I just spend a few months in PT after knee surgery this spring, and I should still be doing my exercises, but since I'm not seeing the PT regularly anymore I've been a slacker. I really need to fix that....
Love Two Wheel Tango. That is where we got our bikes 8 years ago. They tried to talk us into road bikes but we didn't want them then. Now we want road bikes. :O(
It's great to hear your stress fracture is healing! I'm doing PT right now for my foot. At first I wasn't too impressed because it seemed like my PT wasn't treating me, but all the other patients he has had in the past with similar issues. But the more appointments I have had with him, the better treatment I have gotten. I'm hoping to keep up with my exercises for awhile but we will see...
I gave about 6 months of my life in PT twice a week for my knee. I admit that there were some tears shed and my mojo was way down during some of the early weeks, but I made it and my legs are stronger than ever now because of it.
Haha...yeah, the manfriend instantly wanted to rip off my kickstand of my mt bike and took off all the reflectors and visor thing on my helmet. Cyclists are different folks than "bike riders" apparently. :) They take it seriously.
Oh and the good thing about PT is that as long as you do your exercises regularly, you will see some serious results. THe last time I had an injury I decided to be really diligent about my exercises and a few months later, I had really gained a lot of strength. The small exercises seem so minimal and yet they can make a huge difference. Good luck chica! Congrats on being bootless!
Delurking to admit that my first thought (as a runner and road cyclist) was what the heck was up with that kickstand! On a different note though, I can't quite understand why your stress fracture would contradict clipless pedals. I would have thought the stresses would have been completely different. By all means, go platform or toe clip until you get used to riding, but I can't see why you should be prevented from going clipless, which, once yo are over the learning curve, totally rocks!
