3 Things Thursday

  1. Return of the Xtraining… My return to xtraining has been going strong hitting the gym, pool, and bike. In fact I’m even on the prowl for a *real* road bike but the peeps posting on Craigslist ‘round these parts don’t seem to have a clue how to reply to emails. Stupid.

  2. Spring er Summer Cleaning… I finally went through all my old running gear from when I first started running and let me tell you… I used to run in some random sh*t. I haven’t worn any of it in well over a year or more so it was time to purge and donate! Do you still have running stuff from your beginner days that you never wear? Why are you holding on to it?!?!

Apparently back in the day cotton was my friend.
    (UCF 5 Miler 10/2008)

  3. Daydreaming... I have to confess I've been doing a lot of daydreaming about my return to running. For so long it has seemed so out of reach that I was content with just getting to the point where I could walk around like a normal person but now that the end is in sight I've caught myself lusty in thought; running that trail I rode this weekend, lining up for my very first race back, etc... Do you ever daydream about running races/places? I'm not talking only when you're injured I'm talking in general? I remember I used to think about running 24/7 and daydream about my next run or my last really awesome one all the time.

Um, yes I do daydream....that I ran a really fast time, lol. Silly, but true. I do this when I am running as well!

Because it has memories duh. I still wear sorts bras from 10th grade. I'm sure they're still supportive today...

That is one hawt tank top. You look like you should be a NFL cheerleader.

I still have some of the cotton tees I used to run in, but now I just wear them for yard work and the like.

So excited for you to be back in action!

Yes! I daydream about running cool places all the time! I saw in runners world a few months back the segment they did on destination marathons/halfs. I dream about running some of those all the time! congrats on the progress. You'll be running in no time :)

I can't stop thinking about Miami. I'm ready to run and stop all of this biking nonsense. LOL! JK, I will continue to bike, but won't feel bad about missing a day with Dolly. Or two.

Keep on daydreaming girl cause when u do run again - and you will very soon - those daydreams will seem bland in comparison!!

Good idea on the running clothes! I know I have a ton of stuff that never sees the light of day that I bought on the cheap before I knew what I liked. Looks like I have a project this weekend :)

I have day dream and night dream about running a lot. It mostly because of the feeling. I feel so light, like I'm just floating through air.

Glad xtraining is going well for you!

I am nearly always thinking about running. It's crazy. I am a 280 lbs+ dude. I should be daydreaming about hoagies and pizza, and not breaking 25 mins in a 5k or running my first marathon (Miami! Hoot!). But what the heck? They say that according to the laws of physics Bumblebees aren't suppose to fly, but they do because bumblebees don't give a crap about the laws of physics. So, I'll continue to day dream about running, obsess over it, dread off days and injury.

P.S. I learned the hard way that cotton is not any fun on a hot muggy day in NC. Ouchy!

I keep thinking I need to go through my running clothes and get rid of stuff I never wear. I keep putting it off though. :/ Actually I should do the same with all my other clothes too!

I have five or six pair of Nike shorts from my early days that I will never give up. In fact, Lady J recently spent several hours fixing (sewing) each and every pair.

I daydream. A LOT. I prefer to think of it as "visualization" though - I'm upping my mental game, right? :)

So glad you are visualizing your self back and racing. I like to thin of it that way, then I don't feel so guilty for doing it.

Emily said...

yayyyy full return to cross training!! I am SO excited you're back to sweating. And ROAD BIKE?! woot woot! I agree with Katie, move to DC and we can ride together.

Oh yeah...cotton. My old friend. ;) The ignorance. ;)

As for daydreaming. Yep. Guilty. I've been crying my eyes out just watching the Swiss Alpine Marathon trailer. Daydreaming...sigh...

I didn't get my first item of "tech" fabric until I had done all my training for my first half marathon, which means I trained all summer wearing...

...COTTON T-SHIRTS.

What the hell was I DOING? The first time I put on a tech fabric shirt and ran...I was like, OMG!!!!!!!!!

Cotton is rotten.

So happy things are going well and that you are seeing the end in sight! Those day dreams will be coming true before long!

And YES I daydream constantly about running and races. Sometimes it seems like that's all I think about! And I am fine with that - lol!

Daydream running is good!

I finally got rid of the last of my gear from 2008.

Now I'm already working on updating gear from 2009.

Tempo shorts do not last forever! And I wash this stuff a LOT.

Nelly said...

good to hear that things are looking up for you! That is awesome that you are looking into a road bike!

Are are you making the 4 symbol for the 4 horseman in that picture? haha

I actually pretty much use whatever gear I buy - I don't really buy that much running clothes gear anymore - I just wear the technical shirts that I get from races, and shorts they always are fine to hold onto. Though 3 years ago before I transitioned over to wearing technical tshirts I used to wear cotton - not good! haha

Running is always on my mind and I must confess, I have my training schedule set as the backdrop on my work computer. Not that I get to see it all day. ;)

I recently did a cleaning out of older running gear and my goodness, how many pairs of running shorts did I really think I need? Especially since I tend to wear running skirts more. I thought I was all good until I stumbled across an old pair of running shoes this weekend (probably about 4 pairs ago). Terrible confession coming up --- this is the pair that I put a few too many miles on and the sole is breaking apart on the left edge. I kept these why?

Good job getting back in the groove of running and enjoy each moment. When I was getting back to running after my pregnancy I would get so jealous of runners on the side of the road...still do even if I already put in my miles for the day. Does anyone experience this?

i'm happy to hear the cross training is going well and you're thinking about running again. both very good signs!!

the week or two before a race i day dream about toeing the line ALL the time!

Oooh, a road bike will be a fabulous idea for you! THere are some pretty cool vintage ones you can find on craigslist. Just be careful and make sure to test it out so you know it works and is your size (tiny).

I also might suggest riding a few at a bike shop just to know your options. But the cheaper route is definitely to get a vintage one. Happy riding!

I don't think I have any of my old running gear as I was a bit heavier when I started, but I have had my Nike tempo shorts quite some time. I think I have 5 pair now, but one pair is at least 5 yrs old (which is long for me).

I daydream about races ALL the time!

Good luck finding a bike. My hubby is on a similar quest.

Aron said...

I definitely day dream all the time :)

I still have my tank I wore in my first few races and I always think about wearing it again because I loved it! Maybe I should :)

Glad the return to XT is going well!

Ha-I used to run in some nasty, cotton crap. I do keep cotton race shirts, but never wear them to workout in.

As for daydreaming-heck yes! In my dreams I'm fast & running in exotic places.

I am constantly cleaning out running stuff - it's a never-ending process, I seem to just accumulate things very quickly! :) Mostly shorts - I see them on sale and can't resist. Ugh.

How soon before those running day-dreams can be reality?? Yup, I think about runs all the time - it helps motivate me for the next one :)

Heather said...

I daydream EVER-Y-DAY about running. I miss the days of being so motivated and on it. Now its hard. I cant say I know what happened. Oh wait...it was injury and life circumstances.

I need to go through all of my running clothes this weekend...I think im a bit of a tshirt whore with all the race shirts I collected.

Good luck with your bike shopping!

I actually found a bin under out bed with old running clothes that I had completely forgotten about. They are all going in the donate pile.

Candice @ I Have Run said...

Stupid people not answering your emails! Just don't become one of those biker/runner people =(

And I was daydreaming about running next to the car about 6 hours into my drive to Arizona. I just wanted to get out and run.

Navy Steve said...

Just come back slow when you can run (obviously) - good that you are trying to become a run/bike person (like B.o.B. - even if she says she does not like it!) and swim person.

You know - I got into triathlons to do more cross training - so I would not get hurt on the run. Of course my overall annual miles are about the same. (so I guess i just added the biking and swimming) but I am pretty sure the cross training has made me stronger and less prone to running injuries. (just don't fall on the bike!)
