3 Things Thursday

  1. You know you're a runner when... you spend most of last night's episode of "So you think you can Dance" thinking to yourself those dancer's would make great runners with legs like that. Who else loves that show?

  2. Two gimps walk in to a sushi bar... sounds like the perfect set-up for a joke right? The truth is Sun Runner was just sooo jealous of all the injured bliss I've been having she just had to go and get her own Das Boot. Just kidding, in reality she ruptured her plantaris tendon (read her post, I never even heard of such a thing before) at Cleveland and now shares my misery of rocking the knee high torture device for a few weeks. Boo!!!

  3. Mixed Emotions... So last night I made my triumphant return to xtraining by cycling three whole miles. But for all that I was excited, I was also a little scared and put it off by doing my whole arm/core routine first. When I finally got started I had every intention of going five miles but downgraded to three by the end of it just to be safe. I have my bag packed for the pool tonight and I've had to keep assuring myself it's ok to go since the doc said I could. After everything I've gone through with this I can't help but feel a bit apprehensive returning to activity again. Have you ever felt this way coming back from an injury?

i went through the same thing. as excited as i was to get back to it, i was so scared. almost to the point where i didn't do it. i also had a ton of phantom pains. these injuries can really mess with us! just ease your way back into it, you'll be fine!

I am always completely gun-shy coming back. Usually I get cleared to run and then I don't want to because I'm scared. Sigh.

Also, "rupture" and "tendon" don't belong in the same sentence. ow.

Oh no, not another victim of the boot!! Well, you both make it look good!

I can totally understand the reservations as you return to xtraining. Just go slow and steady and listen to your body! FX!!

Love the post. I completely understand. But you have to remember cross training is part of your recovery. So get at it. it is going to feel weird and awkward, it is ok. Trust your doctor, don't push harder than he says but feel free to do what you get the ok on!

Funny you should mention SYTYCD cause I've been interviewing folks with my counterpart here and after the interview we ask each other "Going to Vegas? Or Choreography?" LOL

Totally understand you being apprehensive. I say stay on the safe side for a few while easing back into the xtraining. Love u!

HA! Love B.o.B.'s comment. I also love So You Think You Can Dance.

I'm stuck in choreography for a while. :(

Not to be a wet rag, but after the preliminary rounds and after they choose the top 20-25-30 whatever, hasn't it been established that "Yes, those people can dance?"

I love SYTYCD!!!! Dancers have the best bodies!!!

You two are super cute! Sorry to hear that she is also rocking a knee high boot- misery loves company?

Congrats on your return to xtraining!

I think it's normal to be apprehensive about coming back after an injury. You're still getting out there, you're just easing back into it. Your confidence will come back too!

Oh yeah! I was apprehensive going back to running after an injury. It has taken quite awhile for me to regain trust in my body again and at times, I still feel some nerves about a reinjury.

I think that Sun Runner caught it fir you! LOL

I know how you feel about coming back. It is scary because you don't want to go through that again. Trust your doc and what he tells you and you'll be o.k. It's fun to have a boot buddy!

Oh no! Too many boots! Yes totally apprehensive when easing back, and hard to not over or under-react to aches/pains.

So You Think You Can Dance is amazing! I love that show. That's the one other thing I wish I could do is be a dancer or a performer of any kind for that matter. Too bad I lack in the grace department completely...

umm yes i know exactly how you feel. or at least i know a lot of how you feel, since mine is more of a collapse-and-die-thing and yours is a be-in-a-wheelchair-thing. but, i think we understand each other's fear.

@Jamoosh: DO NOT be dissin' the awesomeness that is SYTYCD.

I have NO dancing ability whatsoever, so I am blown away by those folks.

Know how you feel. It's going to be tough as you will be hypersensitive to any feeling in your leg. Just keep listening to your doctor and your body and you will get through this :)

I know exactly what you mean. 6 months post injury and I'm scared to death to even try to run. Also am a faithful watcher of SYTYCD!
Glad you finally have some answers. Good luck with the cross training.

I think it is perfectly normal to be a little apprehensive when after an injury.

I also have to say you and Sun Runner know how to rock the boot!

I don't like So You Think You Can Dance.

Does that mean we can't be friends anymore?

Sad face

I like all kinds of reality tv. too many kinds! But crossing training is eating up my tv time!

What do they say, misery loves company?!

I think being cautious is normal. Ease back into things.

Good job coming back to training! I still 2 years later freak out at a twinging knee. You should see the tape job I did after a race when my knee was just a bit swollen. I was absolutely paranoid I 'd have another 4 months off. So I get it! I try not to let it make me back off, but it's still hard to accept you are OK and can work out again. Good luck coming back is just as hard as being injured, but now you know how to train smarter!

I say - hit the cross training hard! But take it easy when you ease back into running. Get all sweaty when you cross train! (except in the pool - since you are obviously already wet!)

CROSS-TRAIN HARD AND OFTEN!
