May Recap/Stats

Miles Planned/Ran: I had hoped to make my triumphant return to running in the last few weeks of May but alas my leg had other plans, so for the second straight month I have a big, fat zero for mileage ran. (That puts the tally at 72 days since my last run. *Sigh*)

Rest Days Planned/Taken: How ever many needed / 17

Highest NTC App Badge Acquired: 360 Min - The "Bench Marker" (More like bench warmer...)

Xtraining Workouts Planned/Ran: As many as possible / 14 (6 less than last month thanks to the "No Xtraining for One Week" ban that was enacted after I got put in Das Boot.)

Most hardcore Workout: Spectating the Cleveland Marathon

Current Reads: (Reading) Room by Emma Donoghue, Spike's comments while reading this book intrigued me enough that I picked it up as soon as he was done with it yesterday afternoon... and I am almost finished reading it. I can't put it down, I am so caught up in the story, it's like a train wreck that you can't seem to look away from. "In many ways, Jack is a typical 5-year-old. He likes to read books, watch TV, and play games with his Ma. But Jack is different in a big way--he has lived his entire life in a single room, sharing the tiny space with only his mother and an unnerving nighttime visitor known as Old Nick. For Jack, Room is the only world he knows, but for Ma, it is a prison in which she has tried to craft a normal life for her son. When their insular world suddenly expands beyond the confines of their four walls, the consequences are piercing and extraordinary." (Still Reading) Here Be Dragons by Sharon Kay Penman, Sun Runner has already given me the rest of the series and I can't wait to read the entire saga! (Note: It was slow at first, but I promise it picks up!!!)

Finished: Beautiful Boy by David Sheff, a heartbreaking look at a father's journey through his son's addiction. I picked this up over the weekend and didn't put it down until I finished it. The story is one I am all to familiar with and advise anyone that has ever had a loved one fight addiction, whether alcohol or drugs, pick this one up.

Current Shame-Inducing Guilty Pleasure: Words with Friends. I play it with people I'm sitting next to for goodness sakes!!!

Current Obsessions: See above.

Current Drink: Calcium Magnesium Citrate & I'm back on my coconut water with a splash of Pineapple kick.

Current Song: "A little bit Stronger" - Sara Evans

"Woke up late today and I still feel the sting of the pain
But I brushed my teeth anyway
I got dressed through the mess and put a smile on my face
I got a little bit stronger"

Current Wish-List: To walk around like a normal person again.

Current Need: For my stress fracture to heal.

Current Triumph: Unfortunately there were no triumphs to celebrate in May, only setbacks.

Current Bane of my Existence: Need I bother answering this one?

Current Goal: (Repeated from March & April) To stay positive and focused on active recovery/xtraining so I can hit the ground running sooner rather than later. (It seems later is winning this one but I will not give up hope to be walking and possibly running by month end!!!)

Current Indulgence: Grapefruits!

Current Blessings: The continued love, encouragement, and support from my family, friends, and Spike through this injury.

Current Excitement: Returning to the pool tonight now that the "No Xtraining" ban has been lifted. I never thought I could be so excited to aqua slog or swim!!!

How'd your May shape up?!?!

Running is what you make of it, make it an Adventure!™

Aqua jogging is tough - and Words with Friends is ungodly addicting.

Current wish-list kinda says it all. I remember living with that wish-list, thinking it would never happen... but it finally did. It will for you, too :)

My passion for grapefruit comes and goes. I think the problem is that we normally buy the huge bag with like 10 grapefruit and by the time we polish them off I don't even want to look at them again. haha.

I'm working my way through the Hunger Games trilogy. Supposedly it will be the next big movie blockbuster next summer. Easy reads and entertaining enough.

I almost picked up that book, Room, yesterday. Now I'm going to have to get it!

Morgan, how about we swap a month of my summer hell for a month of your ridonkulas winter!?! Honestly, in danger of going out of my frickin' mind this year. It was 97 degrees today!

You're doing such an awesome job of dealing with your injury. I know that the mental aspect of is so much harder to deal with than any other part, but one thing is for sure next time you are in a race and find yourself in a bad way, all you'll have to do is remember that you fought through this, and you'll find all the energy you'll need to keep pushing. This shit is just going to make you more fierce than you all ready are!

Just so you know - your monthly recaps are still a great read, even if there's no running- I just wish it wasn't such a challenging time for you!

I heart words with friends as well. But here's a new love you'll get sucked into Pinterest. My May started good and ended ok. My foot is bothering me and not sure if it will ever get better. :0

I'm looking for a book recommendation for my book club. (I hate when it's my turn to pick!) Your books sound a little intense for this group of church ladies. Do you have any recommendations?? I'm desperate!

Current drink: Calcium Magnesium Citrate...good thing that it is not Magnesium Citrate 'cuz I was thinking you had some bowel issues going on! :o)

We are all hoping for a swift recovery my dear.

It breaks my heart to hear of a runner who cannot run but keep up with the cross training! You will get back to running before you know it. I love words with friends, super addicted!

If I had an iPhone I'd definitely make D play me in Words With Friends, as we sat on the couch for the night ;) ha, no shame!

You are a little bookworm! I've been reading the same book for almost 3 months now, I need to step up my game.

I hope the pool was everything you expected last night! Go get those Xtraining numbers up :)

What kind of indulgence is grapefruit?? lol

I am hoping beyond hope that June turns out to be a better month with more PROGRESS and no more SETBACKS. You deserve more than a medal for all of this.

I recently read Room and Beautiful Boy - both excellent!!

Jessie said...

Your catching up to me! I have 538 min on the NTC! Good job girly!!

Allison said...

I read Room recently and really enjoyed it! I'm sure you'll be done in no time. I'd love to hear what you think when you finish.

lindsay said...

I'm with Marlene. Grapefruits are not an indulgence.

You should watch Make It or Break It for your June shame. Such lame-but-awesome drama that has actually een very motivating to me in a super lame way hahaha. Ok yes I'm 12 ad enjoy teenybopper shows.

Denise said...

grapefruits are an indulgence!! unless they are the sugar candy ones maybe.

even through all that, your post is still upbeat and positive. i'm glad you get to xtrain again and hopefully that will give you some relief of not being able to do anything. keep smiling...

I despise aqua jogging. Hate hate hate it. Suffered through multiple sessions of it at the pool while everyone stared and pointed. It hasn't caught on here yet I guess.

Will have to check out words with friends. Killed a long travelling trip with a book - "The Raising," which was strangely engrossing. Fictional story of sorority girl killed by boyfriend in a car crash who appears on campus later. Great characters, good reviews.

Hang in there. I can't wait to read about your comeback.

So sorry about that SF. Do you read Beth at Shut up and Run? She had a SF (in a different spot) and basically did what you are doing to get through it - and she did get through it, but it took time, and her first non-pool run was like 8 minutes. Then she was back in the pool...BUT she ran Boston this spring - so stick with it, there is light at the end of that tunnel, promise. Also your attitude rocks.

Good luck, speedy recovery to you.
