3 Things Thursday

  1. Spectating is a sport too... In case you missed it, Spike and I both coincidentally ended up doing guest posts about spectating this week. Spike's is obviously the more funnier of the two and can be found over on Sarah's blog HERE. (You seriously MUST go read, you've heard of his hijinks's but you'll get a whole new appreciation for them when you read this post.) Mine can be found over at Katie's HERE and is the more serious of the two, as I took the more informative angle. Enjoy!

    Spike & Red, Spectators Extraordinaire's!!!

  2. And the winner is... based on a Random.org drawing the winner of the copy of the book "Running on Empty" by Marshall Ulrich from my giveaway is: Comment #29: Jacin of Lovely Little Details. Thanks to all who entered and for all the great book suggestions!!! Jacin please email me your mailing address at redheadrunning (@) gmail.

  3. One week down, three to go... Well I survived the first week with Das Boot and the one week no xtraining ban, including traveling to Denver and back. I'm not going to lie, it pretty much put my spirits lower than they've been during this whole injury business. Thankfully the last few days things are slowly getting easier to deal with and once the pool is back open after the holiday weekend and I can return to xtraining my brains out again I think I'll be able to find a little more peace with the situation.

I'm not a big drinker but air travel with this thing required a beer.

For the first time in over a month Spike & I have zero plans for the weekend and I am looking forward to a lot of R&R! How are y'all going to celebrate this long holiday weekend?!?!?

Yay for the countdown. I hope the bit of rest gave it a chance to feel better. I know how bad it feels not to do anything...we depend on some sort of endorphins to keep us going.

A beer while travelling is the best thing ever. I can't sleep on planes, but after one beer, I'm good to go :).

I hope that countdown to x-training goes by fast for you.

My wife is in a boot now as well and its killing her to not run. She is swimming and trying to cycle when she can.

This weekend I will be racing CapTexTri in Austin. Should be a fun Oly Tri.

My favorite running trail is infested with a plague of deer and Horse flies, so I'll be doing a big time tempo run and cussin' . . . lot's of cussin'!

I am off to the Cape for a half marathon! Enjoy an easy relaxing weekend!

You're awesome Red! You have been through so much with this injury and with your strength you will help others hold their heads up when they face it too!!

Aw, we already had our long weekend - but I could use another. :) Enjoy the R&R! And both quest posts ROCKED - you two are spectators extraordinaire! I would hire you!

Love the different views on spectating! Great guest posts.

Boo I didn't win. Although it lessenes the worry of me getting mileage crazy for a little while. ;-)

Glad you survived the week. Enjoy the weekend and then getting back into the pool!

My weekend is a whole lotta picnic, family and breathing in the no work enjoyment!

I just posted on Monday how hard spectating was... and I didn't even have a boot!

lol...that beer is almost as big as you. well played girl...well played.

You and Spike definitely are the best spectators ever.
We don't really have plans this weekend either. A few odds and ends with the house and maybe a trip to the track/casino. Then just a relaxing weekend.

Red, you and Spike ooze awesomeness. :O)

No plans for the weekend but that is not really different from any other weekend for us.

Show that boot who's boss. Damn boot. Damn leg. Damn bones.

I know my friend Heather had to give up cross training for 3 weeks and be in that stinkin boot before she saw any progress in her stress fracture. But it is mentally draining and just plain stinks. I loved all your tips on spectating. It's really an emotional thing! thinking about you.

Have fun doing NOTHING!!! YAY for relaxing!

Booo....I didn't win. Guess I should have had my hubby buy it last night when he was at Barnes & Noble. This weekend I'll be hosting a bazillion people for a Memorial Day BBQ on Saturday, fishing with my family on Sunday, and on Monday I'll be enjoying the Jazz Jubilee!

I totally hear you about the boot. I think my spirts have been lower this past week as well (I have been dealing with this injury for about 3 months).

Have you posted any of your pool workouts? I'm trying to mix mine up a bit so I don't get really bored.

Glad to see that you are following doctor's orders. And don't hurt yourself to "hobble" my virtual 5k. I'll give you a complimentary DNS instead. And still in the running for prizes. How 'bout it? ;)

Emily said...

im proud of you for surviving the no training! seriously enjoy the weekend of no plans, I know those don't happen often but they are SO glorious!

Denise said...

i totally get it. when i finally heard the word "boot" i was devastated. there was no consoling me for a good 3 days and even the 2 dozen orange roses andy brought home for me didn't put a smile on my face. there's something about that dreaded boot. but you'll find your mojo with the cross training again and the next few weeks will fly by. then you'll be good to go!!

You are the queen of spectating! You totally helped me get through Cleveland!!!

Is that a Blue Moon? My favorite!!

Enjoy every minute of this R&R Weekend!! Loved the spectating recaps - from both ends, haha. You two are quite the pair ;)

Also LOVED seeing you last weekend - I wish Denver was closer to Michigan! Or, the other way around? Because it's warmer here. :)

Spectators rock.... let me rephrase "Cheering and motivating spectators" rock!

I love being the cheerleader..... I get so emotional watching people reach their goals. It's amazing how different the experience is when you're participating as opposed to when you're spectating.

Gotta run.

You deserve a drink or two after all you've put up with, with the injury!

I'll be celebrating with a 5K followed by a two day nap! I'm just excited we were given Monday off at the last minute!

Great spectating posts by both of you!

I'm celebrating Memorial Weekend by biking 100 miles and then spending time with the in-laws.

Hehe, Spike IS funny! :)

If anyone can get away with wearing Das Boot, it's you. No kidding. I wouldn't be surprised if Mr Karl Lagerfeld himself would be copying your style. ;)

Spike said...

Whenever I've drank before a flight, the people there get very very rude very very fast and I end up being 'not permitted' to fly.

Nelly said...

Those spectating posts are awesome, Spike is just hilarious! You are right, yours is the more informative one, haha

Hopefully you will be back at working out soon!

Thanks for your comment Morgan :) I think you're amazing with your spectating, I'd just want to hide away if it was me ;) Keep healing, keep positive - being patience is majorly sucky!
