April Recap/Stats

Miles Planned/Ran: 202± M (Pre-stress fracture obviously) / A big fat ZERO!
(My first ever zero mileage month since I began running three years ago in what should have been my first ever 200± M month. D@mn you stress fracture for ruining everything!)

Rest Days Planned/Taken: How ever many needed / 10

Highest NTC App Badge Acquired: 240 Min - The "Bar Raiser"

Xtraining Workouts Planned/Ran: As many as possible / 20

Most hardcore Workout: Aqua slogging 16 lengths of the pool (800 meters) in just shy of an hour. When you're injured you have to do what you can to keep things interesting.

Favorite Post(s) Written: It's a toss up between the "Boston Marathon Spectating Recap" and the "Ask the Redhead Answer Fest."

Least Favorite Post(s) Written: "The Truth about being Injured" only because being injured is by far my least favorite thing to be.

Current Reads: (Reading) CHI Running by Danny Dreyer; Thanks for letting me borrow Bethany! I am loving this so far and really excited to implement the things I've learned when I return to running. I'm also reading; Here Be Dragons by Sharon Kay Penman, I love me a good medieval read and this one is starting to get good...

(Finished)
On Agate Hill by Lee Smith; I hated the opening narrative but once the story started I was riveted. Running on Empty by Marshall Ulrich, review (and giveaway) to come!

Current Shame-Inducing Guilty Pleasure: That which we will not speak of.

Current Obsessions: Chunky necklaces. Why do I love them so?!?!

Current Drink: Water & Milk FTW

Current Song: "Walking on Sunshine" Katrina and the Waves - Heard this during "Motown Monday" at the pool, the old folks were getting their aqua fitness on and when I heard it I thought to myself, "I'm totally going to be singing this song on the tops of my lungs when I can finally run again!"

Current Wish-List: For my stress fracture to be 100% healed.

Current Need: See above.

Current Triumph: Walking crutch free!!! It's slow going but at least I'm mobile again! Look mom, no hands!

Current Bane of my Existence: The gloomy sky. It's finally Spring so what's with all the doom and gloom Michigan?!?!?

Current Goal: (STILL) To stay positive and focused on active recovery/xtraining so I can hit the ground running sooner rather than later.

Current Indulgence: I have rediscovered my long lost love, popcorn.

Current Blessings: Life, love, and friendship.

Current Excitement: B.o.B's impending trip to visit me and the associated trip to Cleveland to spectate all my peeps running the Cleveland Marathon.

How'd your April shape up?!?!

Running is what you make of it, make it an Adventure!™

I hope you get your wish and need soon :)

I only ran 4 times in the month of April... maybe it was 5. Seems like lots of people were runningly challenged for some reason or another this month.

Here's hoping that May turns out to be a MUCH better month! You have been kicking serious cross-training booty and I know it will pay off when you can get running again.

That which we shall not speak of? Hmm, I am intrigued. lol

My April mileage is a laughing stock.
And I don't think I am doing well at cross training either.
Blah!

I bet now that you are off crutches it really feels like you are Walking on Sunshine.

May will be better! If you are reading Chi Running the dvd is very helpful as well. I hope things turn around soon for you!

Boooo for April! Be gone! Bring on May! Less rain and more healing!!

You are going to beat the hell out of running when you're back. I don't think anyone doubts that! And yeah, chunky necklace love!

Be patient during your rest time, Morgan. I have had to learn that myself. Learn to enjoy the little things that you can do to maintain your endurance. Find something that you can enjoy in while you are unable to run. Place a new goal or initiative for yourself to focus on (weight training, cross-training, etc.) so you can feel positive about accomplishing something during your "downtime".

((hugs))

You're doing a great job hanging in there! And making progress. Keep focusing on where you are compared to where you were a few weeks ago.

how do you feel about smartfood popcorn? Is there a particular long lost love favorite variety??

Heather @ Dietitian on the Run said...

Clearly you took that 0 mile month and made the best of it! Hands-free walking (i.e. crutch-free) will soon lead to getting you back in those running shoes :)

And thanks for the Popcorn reminder - if we don't have it around, I forget how awesome it is!

So happy you're walking crutch free!! It may be slow, but you're doing so much to stay in great shape and with your amazing spirit (and I know it can be hard) you will get back to running and you'll feel great!! As much as we runners hate injuries, I think they can really make us appreciate the ability to run. I hope you have a great May!!

i remember having no miles the one month while i was in the boot. just sucked to see it but once i realized it didn't really matter if i hit my yearly goal, i was fine with it. heal up and i hope some sun heads your way soon. those gloomy mi days are rough.

April stats?? Something like this...

Status: Considerably injured
Current Rx: Being completely humbled/exhausted by military-esque spin classes five times a week.

Who "hovers" before 6 a.m. on a workday?

You are on the right track to recovery and you seem to have more patience for healing process. Good job!

You are doing great, and so positive. Thanks for keeping my head up!!! Great job!

I think all your killer aqua slogging and various cross training efforts will really help you return stronger when that stress fracture heals. Keep up the entertaining posts. I love how entrenched in running you've remained throughout.

damn stress fracture, for sure. Keep up the good work with the recovery and cross training!

You are a trooper for hanging in there. I feel your pain on getting injured - I think I have runners knee, it is not fun. I feel like my workouts almost mirror yours - cross training, swimming, etc. Good luck in the whole process, hopefully you will get to run soon!

Sorry to hear you have a stress fracture - those are awful! Hang in there...it will get better

You are killing me with that of which you will not speak. It's like when people post vague things as thier FB status =)

Yay for being crutchless. When is running in the cards??

Chunky necklaces are awesome. I've been drinking a lot of seltzer water and ALMOND MILK (just as much calcium as regular dairy!)

I miss you and talking about your secret shameful pleasure.

I love your courage & good attitude you're having about getting through the injury. With the attitude alone you're going to get through it no problem!
