3 Things Thursday

  1. You know you're a runner (and def NOT a swimmer) when... You don't own the proper equipment for your new "sport" and wear an old sports bra with bikini bottoms to aqua slog in.

Target C9 bra's are good for more than just running!

  2. Leg Update... 10 days have come and gone and there is no way I'm ready to ditch the crutches and walk as it hurts to even just stand with minor pressure on it. Next week we leave for Boston and I can. not. wait. I need this vacation so bad but what the h*ll am I going to do if I'm not off these crutches by then? I will cry if I have to deal with them on vacation, the day to day stuff is hard enough. I can't imagine what a hassle it will be to travel with them and how on earth am I going to do what I need to do to spectate Spike marathon morning if he's not there to help me?!?! Please heal leg! I'm not even asking to run, just to walk without the wretched crutches. PLEASE!!!

  3. Boston... Speaking of Boston, did I mention how excited I am for this trip? Or how excited I am to meet up with all the awesome Boston Bound bloggers throughout the weekend? Or how even more excited I am to spectate Spike because I just know he's going to have a great race this year? Or how I'm most excited to just get away with my love and have a date night all gussied up as is tradition when we are out of town?

Do you make it a point to go out on a fancy-pants date night when you're out of town with your significant other? What/where was the best date night you ever had?

Oh I feel you on the crutches. I haf them eons ago when I effed up my knee skiing. They are such a royal pain. I wish I were coming to Boston, I'd be your valet.
All the best to Spike--this is HIS year for a great race!
Hmmm date night, we're so seldomly away alone anymore but we were in Puerto Rico a few weeks ago and every night was a fancy shindig...but it was work related stuff...still super fun though!

Seriously: the way you're dealing with the leg/crutches thing...it's amazing! The way you keep that positivity in there. Way to go, girl!:)

And that leg of yours. A. it sucks, but B. it will heal. It will! And if it doesn't, tell me, I'll sue it. I'd be glad to. ;)

That will totally be me when I start swimming!

I agree with Silly Girl Running, keep up the awesome attitude!!!

Which blogger meetup are you going to?!

Hah LOVE the "bathing" suit. THAT LEG! Needs to shape up immediately! No special dates for this girl, but when you go to Boston, I HIGHLY recommend Giacomo's in the North End. That was J and my's "first date," in the loose definition of the term. And it is quite a treat-delicious italian food, reasonable $$, you might have to stand in line outside the restaurant, but DO NOT LET THAT DETER YOU. You stand in front of the restaurant and hold your spots in line, and have Spike walk across the street to the liquor store and get a couple drinks to get you started (perhaps consider this outing AFTER the race). Awesome food, awesome atmosphere. You kinda feel like you're in your own italian grandmother's kitchen eating dinner.

OK that advice was completely unsolicited.

What are these fancy pants you speak of and where does one buy them? If I can't wear shorts into an eating establishment, I assume they do not want my money!

Jogging with Fiction said...

I really hope the crutches are gone for Boston!

My husband and I don't travel very much, so I don't really know about the fancy dinner :). We're jeans and t-shirts kinds of people, though, so maybe not.

Your improv bathing suit kills me.

We're really looking forward to meeting you out there! Sorry about the crutches - hopefully you can leave them behind!

Marlene said...

Fingers crossed that your leg is a WHOLE lot better in time for your Boston weekend! Otherwise you might have to bedazzle those crutches for date night!

I am sending good vibes to your leg from New York. Hoping it heals soon! Especially so there are no crutches in Boston :)

Laura said...

You are doing way better than I would be doing on the crutches...congrats on that for sure. I am envious of your Boston trip and will be following everyone virutally.
I am all over getting a bit dressy dress for a date night...why not?

Missy said...

Hey there, just happened upon your blog, love it so far! Have fun in Boston!

Kandi said...

I hope your leg feels better so you can enjoy Boston more! Geesh.
One of my good friends was on crutches for a "sprained" ankle that never healed... and it turned out that she had a fracture in her heal that didn't show up in regular x-rays.
Love that you rocked the sports bra in the pool. ;)
Can't wait to hear all the Boston stories from everyone that is going!

I say that if the crutches aren't gone by Boston you leave them at home and just have Spike carry you around. It isn't like he going to be doing anything that weekend any ways. haha

Have fun!

I've gone swimming in sports bras with tri shorts (not even bathing suit bottoms) many a time!

Sending huge vibes that you can ditch the crutches before Boston.

I suggest water running naked. Might get you some attention and new friends.

BabyWeightMyFatAss said...

I wonder if you can ditch the crutches for a soft cast and a boot? Some support but you won't have to rely on the horrible crutches! I tried crutches but with toddlers. I do not suggest that to anyone!

Kathrin said...

I keep my fingers crossed for you that you don't need the crutches anymore by the time you board your flight to Boston.... BUT! With crutches you get bussed back and forth in the terminal and the exit row has your name on it... Just sayin'! ;-)

My best date ever is a cross between Valentines 2002 and my birthday in 2005. Both were just really planned out, special times in my life.

R2 and I have already decided that once a month we will have a "get dressed up and go on a real date" night. We actually "date" quite a bit and do a lot of fun stuff, but the dressing up thing is always fun!

Ack- see you soooon!!!!!!!

Jessie said...

I miss fancy dancy date nights!!! How sad is it I cant even remember the last time. We have gotten all gussied up but it was for events not for a solo date!

I love your optimistic smile while aqua slogging! Crutches or not your going to have a relaxing vaca! Have fun girly!

Katie said...

if you are still on crutches next weekend i'll carry you around while spike runs, did you not see my guns?

Shellyrm ~ just a country runner said...

I love your "swimsuit." But really it was your arms that I was looking at. Nice muscles!

I think gussied up dates are a GREAT and needed habit. My husband didn't start that habit and now it's always an issue to get time alone. You should never get so comfortable that you don't want to look your best for each other every once in a while. I mean he has to see you all sweaty so he should get to see how great you look because of all that hard work.

final thoughts. heal leg...heal leg..come on already, heal leg!!

Enjoy your weekend.

When we're out of town, we do try to go to a decent place for a date. The best place was in LA. Fancy, fancy food.

I have a certain headband that matches that sports bra. Now *that* would be an outfit. :)

aw, i'm sorry about the crutches and the pain you're still having. i really hope you get some relief by next week and can ditch the crutches before the trip.

don't worry, i'll bring you cocktails at happy hour!

i'm sending you good vibes and keeping my fingers crossed for you that you heal QUICKLY and get off the crutches! keep up the great attitude --- in the end everything will be OK, so if its not YET ok, then its not YET the end!

Ha! I forgot my swim shorts once, and swam in my running shorts. I liked them so much better than now I just swim in my running shorts all the time. No need to buy twice the equipment when you can cross-utilize.

I hope that you can ditch the crutches before Boston! I'll be sending some healing vibes your way.

Fingers crossed those crutches don't make the Boston trip. Either way, you'll make the best of it.

My husband and I (married 11 years this year) make it a date night every Fri. and absolutely LOVE our meals out when on vacation. We even have great date nights at home (since there's no kids). It's wonderful being married to your best friend and love of your life.
You guys have a great time in Boston.
Hope I recognize you as I run/walk/crawl by as I won't be able to get to the blogger meet ups.

I went to Boston for a vacay late last year, and it was the first test of my post-surgery ankle. I'll write about it this weekend for the Monday post.

I'm sorry it hurts to walk. It's good you are doing something, which is swimming. Btw, my first swim race - I totally did the the same thing - a running bra top and a bikini bottom, haha! I looked more than ridiculous among a field of serious swimmers.

I sent you an email!!!

Stephanie said...

I do the exact same thing when I swim, it's so much easier!
I really hope you can ditch the crutches before the Boston vaca, when my Sis-in-law had a stress fracture they threw her in a walking boot, could you get a boot for While you need to be up and about, it might help some with mobility.

lindsay said...

um no i don't get dressed up when i go out of town because i don't want to have to pack nice clothes ;) i love your reasoning for the crutches -- b/c spike won't be there to help carry stuff. haha. for real though, i hope you do get off them this week!! i can't imagine going thru an airport on those...

ps. i'm too fat to wear just a bra.

Heather @ Dietitian on the Run said...

I have no doubt you'll pull out your resources and put on your Spectator pants, crutches or not! I'm already excited to see the get-up and/or signs you've got planned for another race..haha ;)

On the swim note - I see nothing wrong with cross-using old run clothes! Who needs a one piece "real" suit.... heh

Nelly said...

nice job swimming! I haven't swam in so long I would think I might sink or forget how to swim, haha

Iris said...

I can relate! I've had two weeks on the crutches and on month 3 of a brace and no running. Just got the carrot for pool running and don't own a swimsuit. Thanks for suggesting an alternative!
