Not #WINNING

*Sigh*

Where to begin? Well long story short, my 20 miler was only 13ish.

12 miles for the win, followed by 1.37 miles of deterioration, followed by a speeding ticket for the FAIL, followed by the priceless looks of absolute confusion by the sports medicine doctors at the hospital that put the icing on the cake. Def not #WINNING over here.

I'm happy for the 12 miles, I'm disappointed for the following 1.37, I'll own the speeding ticket, and I'm beyond words frustrated by the complete lack of identification as to what is causing my Leg Gremlins. (Which shockingly isn't a genuine medical diagnosis.) The tally of bewildered professionals is now up to one certified running coach, one chiropractor, and two sports medicine doctors. Awesome sauce.

Sure he's a freak of nature but at least they know what's wrong with him.
I wonder if he'd borrow me one of those extra legs?

I don't really know what more there is to say on the matter other than I will do as "suggested" and take some time off, replace running with xtraining, and hope that this issue works itself out. I've already given Spike the go ahead to trade me in for a better (younger, prettier, unbroken) model but he lovingly stubbornly refuses. He must love me a whole lot huh? (Or he's taken out a life insurance policy on me... keep an eye on him. Who passes up permission to replace damaged goods?!?!?)

But seriously, thanks for all your support and encouragement with this and hopefully my next post will have some better news on the running front.

In other news, 9 more weeks til Cleveland Marathon!!!

And just so we're clear, I WILL be there.

I hope you are able to exorcise your leg gremlins! As for Cleveland, SO jealous. I actually paid for registration but can no longer make it. All the best!

Man, that sucks kiddo! Hang in there, maybe cross-training will do the trick! Good luck!

Welcome to the mystery disgnosis club, taking time off from running club, and my next marathon will go nothing like I planned club. Woohoo, such an elite group!! I'm hoping I don't take up massive alcohol but it's a possibility. But best of all, here's to the "Here's a big hug" club!! Hugs to you, Morgan...hang in there, somewhere there HAS to be an answer, right?? One day, hopefully sooner than later, this will all be a distant memory!!

Oh, I KNOW you will be there. There is NO question about that. But in the meantime, I am SO sorry you have to go through this. Time for cutlets with glitter on top. Or magical elves. Or the Tinkerbell of running.

Um, Takt II:

Hang in there, darlin' - and I'm certain Spike will NOT be trading you in during this lifetime!

*hugs* from Orlando

Oh no! So sorry to hear this. Boo, leg gremlins, boo! I'll be sending positive thoughts your way and I hope the short x-training break does the trick.

Spike said...

Younger prettier versions do not exist, and I wouldn't trade you in...

Get unbroken and back to winning soon.

"Younger prettier versions do not exist"

Wow! And Spike continues to earn the brownie points.

Hope you heel up soon! Just keep up on the cross training and you'll be rearing to go once the legs start to cooperate.

Morgan--So sorry to hear it! I hear your frustration on finding the right answer. Take it from someone who has spent 3 months searching for the right answer (and finally found it) keep on knocking on doors. You'll get it worked out.

BabyWeightMyFatAss said...

I think the injured reserve ladies should get shirts. Titled "fuck this shit."

Lisa said...

I'm so sorry for the non-diagnosis. Totally sucks. I hope the week off helps and that someone can figure out how to help you get rid of this. You're incredibly strong and have tons of support, you'll be back and running no doubt!

Evolving Through Running said...

Really hope this works itself out for you. Keep the fitness up with the x-training and we'll all keep our fingers crossed. The mysterious and undiagnosed is so much worse than definitive bad news sometimes. Gremlins be gone!

Neophyte TriDuRun said...

Keep at it, your body will come around. Remember, you're a hero and an inspiration to so many. We will carry you through this!

Nicole said...

Hang in there, Red. I'm keeping fingers and toes crossed for you!

As one of your biggest fans and supporters I know you'll get through this AND you WILL be at Cleveland. Hang tough Boo! I love you and can't wait to hug you. Miss your face.

PS - Spike is awesome. You should keep him around.

DANG!!! Sorry about this...but man that deer is just weird! Ok, back to you...shoot?! So frustrating that no one can figure out anything definite. Good luck! And that Spike, he's a keeper...but you already new that.

Jogging with Fiction said...

ugh that is the worst! Sometimes I seriously wonder about doctors. My favorite is when I go in and they say, well it could be this, this, or this and I'm like, um, thanks WebMD told me that too, here's $200.

Heather said...

Just look at this as a bump in the road that pushes you to ROCK cross training. Youll be better by the time Cleveland comes around and that race wont know what hit it.

momof3 said...

This makes me sad.

Hey one of your commenters - Jill says there's a club for people who have mystery diagnosis (me), taking time off (me too), next marathon... yea, registered for but won't be running National due to the fact that I'm only allowed to run 3 miles at a time and the National marathon is, in fact, 26.2 miles... where's my invite? How do I join?

Clair said...

Ugh! So sorry you're still plagued by the gremlins. Has anyone considered the possibility of stress fractures in your shins? Hang in there. I hope you get some answers SOON!

Her Name Is Rio said...

What is up with those gremlins?! Don't they know they are NOT wanted? So sorry to hear you're having to deal with them again.
You've got the right attitude. Hang in there.

Jordan said...

Bummer about the leg gremlins! Keep your head up!

Irish Cream said...

Hugs, chica!! I'm so, so sorry to hear that the leg gremlins are acting up. It seems like SOMEONE out there should be able to figure out how to put those little monsters in their place! I really hope you can get some answers soon.

In the meantime, keep your chin up and rock that cross-training!

P.S. Spike = total keeper :)

Carla @ I Run, You Run said...

Sounds like my hip pain. A chiropractor, 2 different orthopedists, and one physical therapist and they were all clueless.

No one figured it out, so I learned how to deal with it, hoping it will go away as mysteriously as it appeared. Still hoping :( (but it's not getting any worse, so I keep on trucking.)

Nelly said...

Wow, I'm really sorry to hear about your day. And especially the fact that they can't seem to diagnose the problem as to what is wrong. The worst part of anything to me is the unknown. It is hard to take.

One thing I noticed is that you seem to use a less dense foam roller (the white foam one). I just bought a more dense foam roller yesterday, and I think it makes a difference because it applies more pressure to your IT band. You might want to invest in one if you don't feel like your getting benefits from your current foam roller. I bout The Grid by Triggerpoint - www.tptherapy.com.

And I know you don't want to hear this now, but I tagged you as a stylish blogger on my blog. Thanks a lot for the shirt, I got it this past week! Really appreciate it!

Good luck with everything!

Uhg! Bummer! Deep tissue massage from a Certified License Massage Physical Therapist has healed me from two running injuries. It hurts like heck, but it works!

Teamarcia said...

Oh blech. I'm so sorry to read this. Hoping and praying you get some answers soon!

You're fast and hurt, I'm slow and healthy. Can we combine our powers like the Wonder Twins? Can we make one awesome runner between the two of us?

Red, I've been battling bad fatigue, sore tight calves on and on..You've been on my mind girly..Take it one day at a time and listen very closely to your body. ((hugs))

Katie said...

HUGE sighs. however, i'll repeat to you what everyone is telling me. you are fit. you can keep up your basic fitness with crosstraining while you figure this out, and you have LOTS of time before your race. i KNOW it doesn't help (because it's not helping me) but try to stay calm. also, eating your weight in chocolate might make you feel better momentarily but the next day you will feel awful. just an FYI.

and if spike tries to trade you in, i'll punch him in the jimmie.

much love....i'm here if you need an ear!

Marlene said...

Darn right you will be there! Not a doubt in my mind.

Emily said...

NOT AWESOME. I am sending you major get better vibes. 9 weeks is an effing long time. Be patient, rest and you WILL get to that start line!

Denise said...

aw, i'm sorry. this really sucks. hopefully some rest is all it takes. hope you feel better soon.

Kandi said...

I'm super bummed for you! I hope the cross training works out the issues or you find someone who can figure this out! Best of luck, Morgan. I'll be thinking about you.

Aron said...

This is a major bummer. Hang in there girlie, hopefully a bit of rest is the trick but I wish someone could just give you an answer! Sending lots of healing vibes your way.

lindsay said...

Lame sauce.

:( :( :(

You didn't even explain the speeding ticket. More lame sauce.

I hope your Situation straightens out ASAP!

Sounds like Spike has worse issues going on in his head though...

Kidding kidding.

lindsay said...

PS we definitely have plenty of time. I am definitely repeating that to myself with my slack runs during the week... May 15, so far away ;)

Bethany + Ryan said...

Ah $h!t. So sorry to hear this! I hope some time off will do. Is this the same leg grmlin issue from before?? Hmm. There's gotta be something going on in there. Have you had your stride analyized?

Danielle said...

So sorry those stupid leg gremlins are still after you! Hope it's better soon!
And..keep spike around. Even though you neglect him for the foam roller...he seems super sweet!
Where do you find a guy that says younger prettier versions don't exist?!? : )

MichaelRunner said...

Shrugs are the crappiest diagnosis. I could never be a doctor. I'll be a nerdy accountant any day, at least there's always an answer.

Way to end on a positive. You will be there.

That Pink Girl said...

9 weeks? 9 weeks! You'll be good as new, no, BETTER in 9 weeks. I feel it in my bones.
I'm so sorry your leg gremlins are on the prowl right now. Yuck and yuck. Hang in there - you've gotten through this before. You're stronger than any ole gremlins!

Heather @ Dietitian on the Run said...

YES you will be there - keep that attitude chick, and don't forget those dates with the Foam roller ;) (not that I think it's possible for that to happen). Seriously though, I hope someone figures out what the heck is going on!!

Erika said...

hey...as far as pt goes, you do need a script for treatment...you could get in for a free eval, but they can't really treat you...i'm not sure. if you want me to set you up with an appointment, i can for sure get you set up for a free eval if you want...just let me know!

The pic of the 5 legged deer cracked me up! Lots of luck in Cleveland. I live just 30 minutes of Cleveland and it's a great race! Enjoy it!

Awh, honey, so sorry to hear this! But, I know you can overcome this. You'll be ready in 9 weeks and you will KILL IT, in 9 weeks. Don't get too hard on yourself.

keep your head up girly! hopefully things will get better and you will figure out what is going on!

Lauren @ Sassy Molassy said...

Hang in there girl. Take a few days off (or active recovery w/ yoga and biking) and see what happens on the next short/easy run. Maybe you'll "HAVE TO" schedule some regular massages? Now wouldn't that be a real bummer?! :)

LAPT said...

Oh, friend. I'm so sorry! You and Katie both work SO HARD to stay injury free and do everything right... it's so tough and frustrating to feel like you can't make that pain GO AWAY. Good luck, and I am crossing my fingers for you.

Nicole @ "Haute Runner" said...

Oh boo! This is not cool. I am so hoping that your leg gremlins leave once and for all.

Kelley said...

I could be totally off-base but have you been tested for compartment syndrome? Or a nerve compression issue? It sounds a lot to me like compartment sydrome. Good luck and I hope you figure it out!

Your leg gremlins only hang on because you are so darn cute. And Spike already knows that he has hit the jackpot with you!
Praying for a solution soon.
