3 Things Thursday

  1. Winner, Winners... First off, y'all's comments were HILARIOUS about rocking the old school Sony's and all the different ways you've destroyed your iPod's. I was endlessly entertained and wished I had more units to giveaway. Also, talk about lurkers coming out of the wood-work?!?! Holy smokes, I'm going to do my best to get around to everyone's blog who commented... thank you all so much for making this so much fun to host. Now, without further to do the winners of the Sony Walkman W-Series are:

Jamie from Run on Sentence and Jena from Life is Beachy Keen

Please email me at redheadrunning @ gmail with your name and mailing address!

  2. Spring... Did I read my calendar wrong or did it not state that Sunday was the first day of Spring?!?! Will someone please tell me what all this freezing rain and wintry mix is on my effing forecast?!?!? That is not SPRING!!! Can someone please give Mother Nature the memo???

  3. Answers... As most of you know last night I hit up the Playmakers Injury Clinic headed up by the docs that run MSU Sports Medicine hoping to find some answers and I finally got some.

Long story short my training plan has been replaced with a recovery plan as the doc's original prognosis was confirmed this morning with a follow-up visit to the x-ray machine. Those two dreaded words no runner ever wants to hear were spoken and with them my "TO DO" list has now become my "TO SPECTATE" list. I will be crutches bound for up to the next 10 days after which I begin the process of rebuilding.

After a (few) good cries, one fist shaking session with a fellow commiserating peep (wherein I threatened to go on a murderous rampage...), and finally drowning my sorrows with Taco Bell and a chocolate chip cookie, the pity party is over and I have made peace with my situation. Time to forge ahead! I've already decided I will trick out the crutches for Martian and make everyone around me jealous that they don't have a pair to lean on. (
They will also come in handy with disciplining Spike and knocking things off high shelves.) Watch out y'all, I'm about to make crutches and xtraining glamorous and you'll all be so jealous you're not injured too!!!

But seriously, thank you again for your overwhelming care and support. I know you were all crossing your fingers, toes, etc... and pulling for me. It seems my ticket out of Limboland has arrived, but unfortunately it's a one-way to Injuryville and all flights to Cleveland have been canceled.

EDIT: Just so we're clear, it's a stress fracture.

I'm so sorry about Injuryville! I truly feel 'sick' inside about this! First the leg gremlins and now this: Girl, you do NOT deserve this! No runner does! Seriously, the running gods will have to hand you a kick-ass BQ asap to make up for all this bad luck!!!

Oh no. I am so sorry. Glad you are making the most of it. Hang in there. Your day will come.

Guhhhh, crutches. So sorry. I've rocked those out twice now thanks to running. two stress fx's, two different times, two different feet. Awesome. The upside? the attention is fun, and 10 days isn't so bad (i had mine for 4 weeks).

Hang in there, trust me when I say I totally understand. It's heartbreaking. And if you need tips on party tricks on crutches? I am your girl ;) Got quite a few. You'll be a huge hit.

Your one-way ticket to Injuryville truly SUCKS OUT LOUD. I'm so sorry :( Seriously rock those crutches and rely on the pity of strangers. IE-get people to do all sorts of crap for you!

And I'm with you on the weather. Clearly Mother Nature needs a kick in the ass for turning Michigan back into a winter wonderland.

Morgan, sorry to hear about the injury. Staying sane through injury is a difficult task. Try hard to fight the temptation to light things on fire that are not suppose to be on fire and remember that hitting people with a crutch is generally not looked upon as an appropriate way to get someone's attention.

Mother Nature and I are no longer on speaking terms because her flighty and flaky ways have led me to make many a disparaging comment upon her and her parentage! Also, I did express a strong desire to kick her in the theeth last month.

1) what are the two words? "to spectate"? or does it rhyme with "caress rapture"?

2) big fat bummerrrrrr. I am sorry my friend. You can always trek to green bay that weekend... I am still baffled as to how this happened though. :( hugs and chocolates. Oh and you're arms will be rockin after crutches!!

3) how did I not win?!? Did I disqualify myself with too many comments? Gah. This was rigged. ;) I did notice that you had a bajillion people.

lindsay said...

Umm one cookie? Just one? For real? No wonder you got injured. EAT MORE CHOCOLATE.

So what was the prognosis?? What is wrong with the legs? I read it a couple of times, maybe I'm just dense! Rest up, heal, heal, heal.. we all are looking forward to watching you make the ultimate comeback!

I'm so sorry! I have been on crutches for the last 15 days and I still have 13 more to go and HOPEFULLY I will get off of them. Damn the leg gremlins. Hope you rock those crutches at martian! : )

Kandi said...

That really sucks. I was hoping it was just a fluke and you would be all set to go again soon. Hang in there, Morgan! I'll be sending good vibes your way for a quick recovery.

I mean, seriously?! I can not believe this happened to you - so sorry to hear the bad/sad news. I know you'll get your BQ, even if you have to go to Injuryville first.

Crapola, Red! WTF is up with all of your recurring injuries? I really thought you had this thing nipped in the bud. Totally bummed out by the news. Boo!

Seriously though, we need to have a chat about your hormones/bone health. Don't know if I can help but this is ridic!

Hope you're rocking the crutches. Hit me up when you got time next week on twitter/g-chat...

Ugh, sorry to hear that girl. I do love your sense of humor about it all however. Looking forward to hearing the update after your visit with the xray machine. In the meantime, get good at workin' those crutches.

I have nothing useful to say here, so I'll just say this: injuries are STUPID FACE.

Injuryville is the worst! But on the bright side, crutches are cool (at least I thought so when I was a kid) and tricked out ones are even better!

Suckage!

Florida is calling you back - behold the warm temps and the lack of snow and ice.

:( That totally SUCKS! So sorry to hear about the injury and especially the crutches.

On the plus side, your arms will get jacked?

I'm so sorry to hear that. I know it doesn't matter what people say that it won't help brighten your mood right now. As an athlete that would be a very tough pill to swallow. I would be really distraught hearing that.

You really are a trooper for going to the race to spectate even though you can't run, that takes a lot of guts. I don't think I could actually go to a race to spectate that I was supposed to run, it would just be too painful mentally for me. So huge props to you for doing that.

You probably don't want to give all the details about your X-ray, but like Lam said, not sure if it is worth looking into whether it was a stress fracture or other such injury. Maybe iron or calcium supplements can help with bone strength. This is out of my league, but your doctor might have some suggestions.

Keep your head up, before you know it you will back on the road, crushing workouts like you normally do. I know all of your blogging friends on here will provide support.

dammit dammit dammit!!!!

I am so sorry, but I'm glad you're rockin the positive attitude. But still, I can't believe how much this SUCKS for you :(

Marlene said...

Sooooooooo not what I wanted to read!!! :(

Wishing you a speedy and strong recovery and a wicked come back this fall.

I admire you beyond words for putting a positive spin on this and keeping your chin up (and not drinking yourself into oblivion).

I hope karma is kind to you! Can't wait to give you a big hug in person and see you rocking out those crutches like ONLY you could.

Kathrin said...

So sorry, Red.

Aron said...

I do not like this news :( Hang in there girl, good things WILL come your way, I know it. Way to have a positive attitude and stay strong, I know it can't be easy.

Can't wait to see you in a few weeks to give you a big hug!

I'm so sorry to hear this. :(

Bummer ... sucks, Morgan. You could always think about running MDI in October with all the cool kids.

Be smart and take your recovery seriously so you don't have to miss any more time than necessary.

Evolving Through Running said...

Crap. Even when you do things right sometimes the gremlins sneak in. With your great attitude this will just serve the fuel the fire once this has passed. I feel obligated to have Taco Bell and cookies in your honor. Don't want to, but I have to. It's only right.

Joanna said...

Oh girl, I'm so sorry. Is the stress fracture in the shin or foot? No, NO fun!! Are you planning to spectate Cleveland?

baker said...

Ahhh! Injury?! So sorry to hear. Please heal up quick!

PS- love the new design of the blog.

Kittee said...

Can't wait to see the tricked out crutches...

FML indeed. Fortunately, you found the TRUE healer. Taco Bell. Every friday seems to make Spike awefully fast. There must be something to all of that ground up puppy they put in their meat.

Boo!!! Glad to hear you are out of Limbo but so sorry to hear that your destination sucks!!

I love your upbeat attitude.

I will begin crying 1000 tears for you so you don't need to anymore.

I'm so sorry. :(

Rose said...

Ug. I'm sorry.

But, if anyone can make crutches look pimp, you can.

Lisa said...

Boo! I'm so sorry to hear about the prognosis. definitely sucks, no way around it, but at least you have the answer and are on the path to getting better! And hey, it's going to be too cold for me to run on Campus Saturday anyway, so you won't miss this chance to run with me! ;) haha! Take care, lady!

Jamie Crosby said...

Sorry to hear about your injury, heres to a great comeback and a speedy recovery!

Thanks for randomly picking me for the Walkman...I'll put it to good use, my speed sessions will never be the same!

Sun Runner said...

We talked. you know how I feel.

on the bright side Spike will now have to be at your beck and call until you are fully mobile again. luckily you come armed with "extendable motivators."

really didn't want to hear that. i'm sorry but absolutely commend you for having such a great and positive attitude. hang in there, the time will go fast!

Layla said...

Oh no, stress fracture?! What a bummer!!

I know you've been down the injury road before (maybe it's a hair color thing??), but I'll just remind you that you're not alone. I've had two stress fractures, and both times I was beside myself. The one this summer was worse, partly because I wasn't in a good place already, so that just sent me over the edge. BUT after a lot of agony and craziness and waiting, I came back. Once again, I got my strength back. And I PRed. You will, too. I promise.

The Shabby Princess said...

I'm so, so, so sorry girl. That's the pits. But, at least you are handling it with your trademark sense of humor. I'm not sure what the lesson in all this is, but, I have no doubts that you will come out of this stronger and better than ever.

Oh no! I'm sooooo sorry :( I HATE stress fractures, they are the absolute worst! Get well soon *hugs*

Kayla said...

So sorry to hear the news Morgan! You have every right to be upset/frustrated but it seems like you have a great attitude about it! Wishing you a speedy recovery!

BabyWeightMyFatAss said...

SON OF A NUTCRACKER!!! I'm sorry about the stress fracture. :( Injuryville sucks ass. Three things that helped me in injuryville was 1) Taco Bell, 2) boxed wine from Target and 3) Mini quiches also from Target. I'm REALLY sorry about the injury. Really.

Christy said...

Well, here's the good news. A stress fracture heals. It takes time but it heals. You don't have some lingering problem (like leg gremlins) that will keep you from ever being a strong runner again. That being said, I'm SO sorry you won't be able to run Cleveland. I know how hard you've worked for this and I know how much it sucks. But I'm here for you and you will have an awesome support system in Boston to give you hugs and chocolate chip cookies. I wish I had something better to offer =( Cheer up girly!

Jim ... 50after40 said...

Awe man, that sucks! I'm sorry - but I'm sure you tired of hearing that by now. Take care of yourself and get better fast!

L.B. said...

Um... I was just going to enter the contest and then I see that it's over? Damn. I should have read the fine print :/

Stress fracture? I'm sorry to hear that, Roja. Really. I'd gladly take a proverbial bullet for you and sit on the sideline for a little bit if it meant you not having to sit it out. I already ran a full this year, so why not trade feet for a bit.

Seriously though you're strong and you will get past this and you will run again. Nothing can keep the Redhead down for long.

tahoegirl said...

Well that freaking sucks. I am sorry. :o(

I just ate 5 cookies in your honor.

Keep your head held high my friend.

Stress fractures suck. Been there, chica - so sorry :(

I logged a lot of time in the pool & bike during my fracture recovery time - any interest?

Oh Red-
Sorry to hear this news. It's truly a bummer and I know you're annoyed as heck. Sure hope the recovery is a quick one.
See ya soon.
