3 Things Thursday

  1. You know you're (dating) a runner when... You get emails like this:

    Subject:
If there is a silver lining...

…it would be this. At least when I come home and tell you it was a bad day at the track, you don’t have to worry about whether the kids can still go to college or not.

    Made.my.day.

  2. B.A.A. 5k... I'm confirmed for the B.A.A. 5k on April 17th! Revisiting the site of my current standing 5k PR I have 22 miles on deck to run the day before (Yup, while in Boston! How's that for BQ motivation?!?!) so this year I'll be pacing my girls LPT & Christy to 5k PR glory as we chase after Katie & Emily! I'm so freaking excited!!!

  3. Build-A-Sign... The awesome people over at Build-A-Sign hooked me up with some Redhead exclusive stickers! Have you been to their site? I know I've seen a ton of bloggers around getting hooked up with stickers but they have so much more on their site, including but not limited to; Personalized License Plates (Can we say custom gift for runner...), Window Clings, Jumbo Cards (as in customize some motivational posters for your next spectating event...), and so much more! That last item has me thinking about upcoming marathons I'm spectating for a special someone... hmmm...

So who wants a Redhead sticker?!?!? To get one all you gotta do is let me know you "Like" Build-A-Sign on Facebook and leave me a comment below on how you make running an adventure and/or share an epic running adventure you hadn't planned on having. Spike and I will pic our favs over the weekend and send the winners a Redhead sticker.

The weekend is almost upon us, 18 miles on deck for Saturday (Yikes!), catch y'all on the flipside!!!

First to comment - yes:)

As a fellow red head I love your blog and as soon as I saw the sticker I had to stop being a silent lurker and comment

I keep running fun and exciting by signing up for unique races/events to keep me motivated. This has been especially helpful for me this winter as I live in CT and the weather has been horrible for an outdoor runner like myself. Being able to focus on a Ragnar or Rock n Roll 1/2 marathon helps motivate me that spring/summer are around the corner.

I recently ran Ragnar Key west in January and someone asked why I would go all the way to FLorida to run. I told them that that one of the reasons why I run, so I can travel and participate in these events. Not many people can say that they ran through the Everglades at night (and saw an aligator) and over the seven mile bridge because they wanted to! These are experiences that I hold close to me.

Love your blog and always look forward to reading about your running exploits

a day at the track definitely means something different to a runner! Love this

Hmmm... I am slower than Christy.... maybe you can yell at her to keep her ahead of us?!? :-)

Love those stickers (probably b/c I'm a redhead.)

I keep running adventurous by running every third mile backwards or by trying to recite the entire scrips of Back to the Future, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, or Night at the Roxbury.

OoO I love that sticker!

I made some stickers with them a little while ago, so I already like them on FB.

My most recent running adventure was the Disney Princess weekend. Running in tiaras and tutus was definitely a new and fun adventure for me! It was also the first time that I ran a race to run it, not race it. Lots of firsts! (pics and complete story at the blog, if you're interested)

My recent runner adventure was realizing I was running at an 8:15 pace, albeit briefly, and it didn't feel all that bad. I thought, maybe I could hang with Morgan, but that realization was short lived as I had to slow down in order not to die.

Can't wait to cheer for you in the 5k then EAT yummy food after! WEEEEEE :)

I need/want a red sticker for sure.

Unplanned events from running are bathroom pit stops. I have learned to run and pee at the same time so that is not the problem. It is the #2 events that throw me of course. Sometimes a neighbor's bushes, sometimes the side of a golf course and those aren't a problem b/c it is 5:15am. It is the one that creeps up on you at 1pm in a place you are not familiar with.

For example, Charlotte where my mom lives. Running a trail with TONS of people and looking and looking and looking for a place to stop. You are getting crazy stomach pains and that look on your face is saying 'people I am going to explode here in a moment' but you keep running.

Then you spy a tree that looks covered. You look behind you. You pear around the trail in front of you then you duck into that tree area and you do what you need to do.

You are thrilled and relieved and at that point you don't care if anybody saw you. You walk out with your head held high and start running 7:00/mile even though your previous pace was 9:00/mile b/c you are no longer running with desperation but running free and you love that run.

BTW - this never happened to me but it did happen to a friend who shared their story with me. Just sayin'

Outside of the Chicago marathon (which was epic all on it's own) my grandest epic running adventure would be my 20 miler 3 weeks prior to that in the thunder and lightning and pouring rain. I don't care to repeat that one any time soon, but it gave me SO much confidence going into the marathon that it was almost worth the misery and blisters.

Adam said...

Sticker!??!?! Gimmie gimmie gimmie.

I totally 'liked' em.

(totally unrelated, but wanted to let you know - every time I'm running and hills make me want to wimp out, I start reciting "hills are for heros! hills are for heros!" until I make it to the top. THANK YOU!)

I totally want to represent my favorite redheaded runner! Wasn't build a sign fun? I could've spent days designing stuff. Except I suck at designing things..... :p

Woohoo BAA 5k! So this means we'l for sure meet up when we're both in Boston, riiiiight??! :) I hope so! You should make a crazy obnoxious sign and cheer super loud on that Monday... I'll need it! I can't wait to seeeeee you!

Haha I was laughing out loud here in my cube when I read that about the email! Hilarious! Glad you got into the 5k! Good luck with the 18 this weekend!

I try to run a race when I go on vacation (Race thru the Redwoods in California). Being far from home and still surrounded by runners is very comforting.

I also travel just to run races (Marine Corps Half, Green Mountain Relay, Thunder Road, NYC, Boston...) What better excuse to get out of town?

Randomest thing that ever happened to me during a run: getting stung on my arm by a hornet during the aforementioned Race thru the Redwoods 10K.

But for true adventure nothing can beat running on a humid June night during the Green Mountain Relay accompanied by thousands of fireflies glittering in the fields and trees along my route.

That sticker does look awesome!

I was laughing at that email, you are starting to write like EMZ:
You
Freaking
Got
This
haha

Running any sort of race in Boston sounds awesome, enjoy the 5K!

hopefully you'll be making a return trip to the city for the Boston Marathon next year!

Oh, and I read your entry today on dailymile about your 2150 shoe problem, that does not sound good. Sounds like almost the shoes should be replaced soon. I actually used to run in Asics 21xx series, but for some reason the 2150 didn't fit me anymore, so I switched to the Mizuno Wave Nirvana. It seems like we are both moderate overpronators.

You might want to post your experience of your shoes on your blog to see if anyone else has any suggestions...or maybe give Asics or the store you bought them from a call to see if they have any thoughts. I generally replace shoes at 300 miles to jump the gun on replacement...

Love the sticker and would like one. I don't have to make running an adventure. When you run in Michigan, it's always an adventure in itself. I think you would agree. Thanks! I have to get on this build a sign bandwagon. E-mail me who you talk to there? Thanks!

ooo i'll run a few miles with you on Saturday if you want!! after all, i do know the city pretty well :-). i didn't sign up for the 5k as i had planned to. I'm really trying to save my $ for the honeymoon and $45 is like dinner one night so i opted out. see you soon!

lindsay said...

jamaican me think already? i had to read the email twice to 'get' the joke haha. so i don't think i should be trying to think of a running adventure. if that's what you even asked for. by the time i scroll down thru the comments i forget some things. (aka you have too many comments) ;)

although belated, you did a good job on your stickers.
