Half2Run

Do you love to run/walk?

Do you love to travel?

Do you enjoy traveling to run/walk?

Do you like to run/walk Half Marathons or do you want to start?

By now most of you have heard about the insanity that is being a Marathon (or Half Marathon) Maniac and maybe think there's no way you could ever tackle such a feat. I feel ya! Personally I don't think my body is capable of handling that much abuse even with as much as I love to run, so imagine my excitement when I recently learned about a program that seems so much more attainable for mere mortals:

Half2Run is a program master minded by a self proclaimed "Obsessed Runner" and owner of the Running Fit chain of running stores here in Michigan, Randy Step. Half2Run is for anyone who enjoys running/walking, at least Half Marathons but Full Marathons are honored as well (you did run 13.1 twice after all!), and want to go 13.1 in half the states. Just so we're clear, that's 13.1 in at least 25 states, run and/or walk!!! Anyone can become a member of the program and you have all of eternity to qualify! Did I not say it was attainable for mere mortals or what?!?!?

Based on their guidelines I can already check 3 states off my list; Florida, Michigan, and Illinois! (And coming soon, Ohio!) Only 22 more states to go! I'm totally up for this challenge! You can learn more about how it all works
HERE. Basically you register (for the extremely affordable lifetime membership price of $14.95, with no renewal fees, ever), set up a profile, and plug in your past race stats. The Leader Board lets you know who you're up against and there's a membership directory (accessible once you become a member) you can sift through to connect with other Half2Run participants before events. They also have a Race Calendar available that handily compiles all Half Marathons around the world! When you finally reach your goal of 13.1 in at least 25 states you receive this certificate of completion and Half2Run medal.

Bling-Bling!

The more I learned about this program the more it got me thinking that this could be the perfect excuse to finally meet some of my blog friends around the U.S.!!! Right off the bat I can think of at least a few peeps I wouldn't mind going for a little 13.1 run with! (Just to name a few, but there are many, many, many more!!!)

If you think you're up for the
13.1 in 25 States Challenge make sure to look me up! User Name: RedheadRunning

that does seem so much more like something that i would do! except...i've only ever run 13.1 for fun as a training run. not sure i'd want to travel to places for a half...but it might help me to find races in the places i naturally go....

What a fun idea! I'd be all over it if I were in the states, but travel costs are so much more coming from waaaay up here. Sounds awesome! Good luck in your quest. :)

Past races and Marathons count towards your goal, and I just noticed that they also accept Canadian territories! That means I'm coming for you Marlene, Amber and the rest of my Canuck friends!!! :)

PA would welcome you! Good luck on your insanity.

I'm looking at the rules and it looks like you can't count full marathons toward the goal. What am I missing??

Full marathons definitely count, I just uploaded all my races, including the marathons I've ran, to my profile. I'll make sure to drop Tracey a note about updating the rules.

Awesome! If I can count marathons, I think I have 5 states, 6 with Ohio in May. Thanks for sharing this site!

Our 'rules' have some flexibility. Half2Run is a personal challenge, so it is up to each athlete how best to achieve their goal!

What an awesome thing.

I wish I'd been into running when I was in college. The east coast closeness would have made knocking out different states so much easier.

Then again, I was in college, and wouldn't have been able to afford any races. hahahah.

This sounds fantastic. Running Fit sounds like a great chain. Is there one around Lansing or is that market to dominated by the awesome Playmakers?

So we can pencil you in for the First Half Marathon in San Francisco on 7/31? Katie will be there and RunnersRambles too, I think doing the full.

That's actually a pretty cool program. I've thought about destination marathons/half-marathons when my girls get a little older. They have a hard time sitting through races close to home. We've actually talked about road trips when the girls are older so maybe I can plan some races along our route... or plan our route to the half or full marathons! That's an even better idea!

My coworker only runs half, and she does them all over the country...I should let her know about this.

That's awesome! I'm so in!

Morgan! Alaska is waiting for you. Seriously. I HAVE A GUEST BEDROOM! Come. Now. Bring spike.

There are so many cool ways to do a race! I can see how my first 1/2 marathon could be the start of a very long love affair.

Wow - I'm in Michigan and never heard of this. Not too bad on price. My only issue is that I'm usually in Michigan only. I'm doing 4 half marathons this year and a full but they are all in Michigan. I wish there was a Running Fit store on the eastside though.

Very interesting! Never thought about 13.1 in 25 states. That seems like a much more attainable goal than 50 marathons in 50 states. Its just more REALISTIC, you know?

Neat idea! I better get moving. I have A LOT of catching up to do

Woman. 13.1, in Texas, with me. DONE. You pick a date, I'll find us a race and it will be AWESOME.

Girl, I can totally get behind this idea! Maybe I should come to MI this time...get a little sea-level running in?? ;) I've done at least 6 states so far, and definitely plan on continuing to add to the list!

Hmm, interesting challenge. I guess I've run a qualifier in 4 states and by the end of the year 5. That still leave a lot of travel and a lot of races to plan for! Fun!
