Monday Mash: Post Christmas Edition

Happy Monday-Post Christmas-New Year's Eve Week!!! I hope y'all had a tremendous holiday weekend spent with all your loved ones, family and friends! Like most of you, I was crazy busy but amidst the madness I was able to find some time to relax with my beloved Spike and enjoy our first Christmas together (in the same state that is). Here's some of the highlights:
  • First up I got to see my Jamily who was in town from Florida!!! YAY!!!

  • The afternoon of Christmas Eve we spent some time with my fam then headed home to bust out a speedy Christmas Eve run together before settling in for the night.

    Christmas Schmoopy

  • Christmas was OUR day; we slept in, had breakfast, exchanged gifts (Guess who's being taken to a Wings game?!?!? YAY!!!), took a lengthy stroll around town that ended with a white wash instead of snow angels (Thanks a lot!!!), lounged around quite a bit after that before deciding to go see The Black Swan. (Edge of your seat thriller! Must see!!!)

    Christmas stroll thru town.

BTW - Christmas Pot Roast was a raving success!!!

  • Sunday, before heading over to Grand Rapids to celebrate Christmas with Spike's fam we bundled up and headed out to run the Operation Jack Satellite Run in honor of Sam wrapping up his 61st marathon of the year for Operation Jack!!! It wasn't the easiest run, admittedly I was having a rough time of it, but it was for a great cause and if Sam can run 61 marathons in one year surely I could suck it up for 6.1!

6.1 M for Operation Jack RUN & DONE!

Red & Spike help represent the Michiganders for Op Jack

And just because I think it's hilarious, here's a pic of my Christmas run last year...
Oh how times (i.e. location and climate) have changed!

  • We also picked up a gym membership. With December being labeled as "mild" by the locals Spike assures me we'll need it come January & February for when things really get bad, so it looks like I will have to start learning to like the dreadmill before too long... *shudder* :(

Well that's it for me, how was your holiday weekend? What did Santa bring you?!?! More importantly, how cold and nasty out does it have to be before you bring it inside???

Redhead in REAL clothes? I thought you LIVED in running clothes?! Somehow I think you still had on running shoes and compression socks. :-) Hope you had a great X-mas. I just came from TN and I think it was warmer there than here.

Okay, that pic from last year's Christmas run made me laugh out loud! :) I hope you had a great Christmas. Plus, I just have to say that Spike and you still look extremely cute together.

Lately, we've had quite a few days where its too damn cold for me to run. I haven't broken down and got a gym membership yet, but I may have to if this continues. It seems like every time we go below 40 degrees, it is accompanied by 20+mph winds this year. I can run in below 40 degrees, but not if there is a 20+ mph wind with it. Eff that! I'll just get fat until it gets warmer and then go run it all off again next year. LOL

Merry Christmas. Our weather was actually much worse on Thanksgiving than it was for Christmas.

haha, love last year's picture! We got hit with a blizzard yesterday, so my run was indoors, but still good. I'll have to post a picture of my outfit soon! Thanks for letting me know about the run!

Merry Christmas!

Whitewashed??? Hopefully it was you whitewashing Spike! :)

Looks like you had an excellent Christmas!
You are awesome to go out and run in the cold and snow after being in FL for so many years! I go out when it's cold but I probably do have a breaking point for when I'd stay inside. Not sure what it is though. Probably when nobody else is willing to go out with me.

Looks like you had a great time!! Thankfully so far the weather here has been great! I'm sure it will change though. I can run in very low temps as long as the wind isn't blowing!!

I love your hair in the picture of you and Spike....those ringlets are impressive! I have poker straight hair so I am a wee bit jealous. I have to say I bring it inside quite often...it isn't necessarily the weather for me but the time management aspect when you have kiddos at home... We do have a Y membership and I really like going there because they have an indoor track and even though it is 13 laps to the mile, I prefer it over the treadmill. The good thing though is that I have a treadmill and elliptical in my basement so I don't have to leave home if I don't want to! Happy Holidays!!

I made a pot roast for x-mas dinner, too.

Merry Christmas! I live in CA, but I'm visiting family in NY. We just got about 30 inches of snow, which far exceeds my winter tolerance. I'm hoping the old elliptical works, because I refuse to go outside.

The pot roast looks sooo tasty!
Good job on your run. After about a month of hit and miss running, I'm getting back on it today!
And...your Christmas run picture from last year totally cracked me up! : )

Sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas. Love the pics ... last year's, too!

We got snow here in HOTLANTA - gasp! I didn't run in it - except chasing the kids around on my front yard.

I love the schmoopy pic, you guys look great! And I am already falling victim to the treadmill...ugh!!!

It was not a whitewash! I was helping you understand through experience how difficult it is to maintain your balance on snow.

I was helping...

Aww I love that Christmas Day was your day! I am hoping that Eric and I can spend Christmas Day all to ourselves next year :)

It is -13 F in my hometown this week! Brr! The treadmill and I have become great friends!

Looks very cold! it's never gotten that cold down where I live. But I still have to run on the dreadmill because I'm a whimp. :)

Merry Christmas! Looks like you did indeed have a happy holiday. Santa got me a plane ticket out of the arctic weather. Guess I was a good girl ;) Stay warm and make peace with the dreadmill. It is your friend. [Repeat that 5000 times. Hopefully you'll believe it]

lindsay said...

oh the dreadmill isn't that bad. i think you should have made it an annual tradition to run in last year's outfit every year... :)

I don't mind the cold, as long as it isn't windy. Obviously there is no snow here, so that really isn't an issue. I think I could tolerate the upper 30's w/o wind. If you add wind in, I'm headed for the treadmill. It's been super windy here for the last few days =( ick.

Looks like you had a great holiday break! The dreadmill can seriously suck, but it can also be your best friend. Good luck!

Nicole said...

what wings game are you going to?? b's bro got us tickets too! we are going feb 7th!

Jordan said...

So far the cold hasn't been too bothersome but I haven't had much wind along with the cold yet. I'm hoping that doesn't change! Well a guy can dream anyway lol. I did biff it face first on some ice/snow at the end of Saturdays run though so today i picked up a pair of "yaktrax" to strap on for extra traction when it gets slick. I'll let ya know how they work out.

Great run! Go wings!

Ughhh the dreadmill sucks! However, in my poor excuse for a gym, with no heat, it's pretty much the same as being outdoors minus the awful winds.

The way I look at it,there are worst things than a dreadmill, ie not running at all. My advice, find one that doesn't blast the heat. I hate that crap!

Anyway, merry belated Xmas and happy almost new year!

Damn! Hair ringlets. And no running clothes. Fancy!!

Sounds like a great holiday.

Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog yesterday...it meant alot.

Love your schmoopy holiday pics!! And holy whoa it looks cold there (very UNlike your run last year...lol wow)! I haven't tackled the treadmill since last January (had to, marathon training + DC blizzard did not mix), but I always remember that once you get "used" to it, it's not so bad...

I'll be toughing it out here as long as possible! I might have access to a plethora of yoga and fitness classes, but we don't get "free" gym passes. Ha, dangit.

that's a great picture of you two!! sounds like the perfect xmas day together, too!

Sounds like you had a great Christmas! Florida certainly misses you, but we do not envy all that snow you guys have been getting!

Excited to see what you have in store for us for 2011!

Firefly's Running said...

From another Redhead...and Firefly, I had an easy Christmas where we took in (or inhaled) all of the Chinese food we could eat with friends. As for bringing it inside, I have had no choice, but bring it inside since I was cleared. No outdoor running until April for me unless it's a mild March this year.

Awwwh, Christmas Schmoopy is darling!

Ha, I remember you posting that Christmas run picture last year. Crazy, right?!

Hm. Let's see. If there is massive amounts of ice on the road or it is actually snowing, I am hittin' the dreadmill. I get too nervous that I'll slip and get hurt if it's all icy and snowy out. Packed snow is fine, but, wet or icy? Nope.

Sounds like a PERFECT Christmas! Glad you enjoyed.

I remember your Xmas run outfit from last year. Priceless!!!

Having access to the gym will be CRUCIAL to surviving a northern winter of training. Especially when it's constantly dark as well as cold. It will be handy for BQ speedwork too!!
