- You know you're a runner when... you spot a group of runner's running near your apartment complex and scream out "STOP THE CAR" and make your boyfriend pull over so you can jump out and ask them if they are a running group and when they meet. The good news is that not only did they stop and let me know the who, what, when, where of their group but they even directed me to their website! I now have a group to run with on Wednesday nights AND after emailing with one of the organizers, I found out that there's even a few members who are training for a spring marathon that I might be able to buddy up with! SO EXCITED! What's the craziest thing you've ever done to make new running friends???
- Going commando... So I keep forgetting to pack underwear when I pack my run bag for mid-day runs which means I've gone commando a few times lately. Maybe some of you would opt to go commando the rest of the day rather than on the run but I just can't do it. I'd rather suck it up for a 45 minute run than the rest of the work day, especially since I've been all about the sweater dress and tights these days, but I must admit, prior to getting my awesome new running pants (review to come) the lady parts were getting a bit frozen...
- Major Household Purchases... Spike and I capped Christmas at $50 because our real present to each other was investing in a new couch and last night we finally settled on one and got it ordered! I can't wait for it to arrive... in 6-8 weeks. This is the first major purchase the two of us have ever made with another person, big stuff in the relationship world. What's the first major purchase you ever made with your significant other?

Craziest thing I've ever done?? Haven't done that yet. Glad your meeting up with some new runners.
Running commando, yes. Otherwise no.
Big purchase? Gosh that was a long time ago!! LOL Maybe a car..
this post is crazy because 1. i've had to do the commando thing a couple of times for the same reason and 2. my husband and I capped christmas at $50 because we were getting a new computer. samesies! lol
My first major purchase with my husband was.....a bed. Yes, a bed. We were sleeping on a futon for two months when my chiropractor bills were getting high because my back was killing me every morning.
i think our first major purchase might have been a washer and dryer. not very romantic, but oh so nice not to have to go to the laundromat!
or maybe it was getting a free dog. there really is no such thing as a free dog. they come with LOTS of expense. ;-)
I started wearing compression shorts this summer under running shorts due to sweating. But I chaffed badly. Decided I just won't care and will skip the comp shorts next summer. :)
commando in running shorts no prob...hmm pants that's interesting. have you ever had to try a run sans sports bra, I suddenly understood mens nipple issues
commando running = no good, but commando back at the office would be worse. i'd make the same decision!
our first major purchase was a house. We were stupid like that. Good to start small with a couch or washer/dryer.
I run commando ALL the time... sort of... I mean, my skirts have built in wicking briefs. TMI? That said, I won't even walk out to my mailbox commando in civilian clothes.
YKYARW - you're emptying the pockets while doing laundry and keep finding little baggies with turn by turn directions/routes in them... I totally thought of you the other day doing laundry. How special do you feel?
Craziest Thing... yea, crazy? or stupid? I ran a Half Marathon in Virginia Beach in August on year during a heat wave so I could "get in" with a bunch of ladies I knew who were runners.
our first joint purchase was a Christmas ornament! haha. AWESOME that you made new running friends! One time i saw a group of runners near my apt and i stopped to talk to them. They were waiting for more people and they looked official and friendly. They were TOTAL A-holes!!!! They were really cold to me and wanted to know how fast I ran before giving me information. They wouldn't even make eye contact with me. They were looking over my head as if they couldn't be bothered. Later, they passed me while i was walking down the street. They weren't even running fast, I could have easily kept their pace while hopping on 1 foot, and believe me, i thought about doing it! Glad your experience went so well! I'll probably never approach a group of runners again. :-(
Our first major purchase was a house. There was no point in starting smaller. We both had lived on our own before living together, so we didn't need any other household items till we had a house to put them.
commando in shorts isn't so bad.
commando is running tights? eek. not for me!
I would have made it my excuse to not run...maybe I need to be more of a rockstar runner like you and do it anyway! : )
YAY for a new running group!
What a great way to meet up with a running group!
i too have gone commando at the gym, work, grocery store because I forgot underwear. Its the worst feeling in the world taking all of your clothes out of your gym bag and not seeing everything you need.
The craziest thing I did was start blogging. I've met such wonderful people because of el bloggo. :)
Rural life means solo running most of the time so no crazy stories here. When I did train and work at a gym, I would simply walk up to every new face and ask them why they weren't in my class. You had to be bold to survive my training anyway so if I frightened away the weak ones so be it. ;-)
commando. in the winter....brrrr. Put two pair in the workout bag, just in case. I wouldn't go commado at work, ever!
major purchase (congrats on the joint couch!) Hubbs and I bought a car together, ok it was a lease but still pretty big!
happy new year!
Congrats on the new purchase! You better stick together now because it is hard to cut a couch in half :)
My mom is the exact same as you - she always asks people who are running in a group what group they are part of. It doesn't stop there. If she likes your haircut she will ask where you got it cut. It is nice to have a mom like that but also embarrassing too!
Congrats on the couch! Brian and I bought a matching bedroom set last Summer and it was a big step. The next biggest thing was getting a phone plan together - It was pretty big for me!
I would have to say an engagement ring!
Eeeeeeeeeee!!!!!
And that was me!!!!
Our first (and only) major purchase together was the dog (Delilah) even though I actually footed the bill. He took care of a lot of indirect costs like being with her during the day while I was at work (and sacrificing sleep since he was working at night).
This past summer when I was training for my half marathon (and it was 100+ for over a month) I went commando more times than not. I've never done that in pants or when it's cold though.
Happy New Year!
So glad you found a running group. I LOVE mine.
So smart about the $50 cap ... and congrats on the couch. Good stuff!
And, going commando ... I plead the fifth.
Winks & Smiles,
Wifey
I always run commando. I can't imagine running in underwear. Probably the same way you can't imagine running without.
Our first major purchase was a couch/love seat set. It was really cheap, but great quality. Our second major purchase was our house.
YAY! So many exciting things. I can't wait to see this new couch. The first major purchase my husband and I had together was furniture as well--I think it was a dresser.
That's hilarious that you jumped out of the car to stalk a running group! ;) I love it. Sounds like it was worth it.
Our couch was also our first BIG purchase as a couple. Scary, but fun and good at the same time.
So glad you found a group to run with, that's awesome! I love how you found them, too!
Even though we had bought a flat screen tv, I think the biggest household purchase we got together was our couch earlier this year. Until then we had just had furniture that we had before we moved in together. LOVE the couch! I hope your purchase is just what you're hoping it to be! Enjoy!
Just getting all caught up! Comando! LOL! I usually do, only because my Nike shorts have undies inside! Congrats on the couch - that was our first major purchase togheter too!
Looks like the holidays were good to you! So excited to see what 2011 brings for you (and Spike!)
Have a safe holiday! Happy New Year!
I have never run commando before but I bike commando all the time- so much better for the lady parts!
First major purchase as a couple? Probably our condo!!
Hahaha on the commando runs.
I know this is probably blasphemous in your world but a sweater dress and tights can actually be worn without drawers (draws as my family calls them).
most tights have the little cotton crotch to prove it. Ewwwwwww. I don't do it either but in a jam, I might.
Q1, I guess the craziest thing would be starting a blog so I could find people virutally to share my running exploits with. But then wouldn't we all be crazy?! =P
q2, I would say the first major purchase I made with a significant other would be purchasing a baby. Ok, we didn't actually purchase her, but she damn sure is not cheap. So I think she qualifies.
Haha! That is the funniest way to meet new runner friends!! Love it! I've been meeting some runners online who are visiting my city, and then we get together and run. Not very crazy, but it could be considering I never met them before...
and going commando sounds very hippy and free...I'm kind of liking it...haha
I am a commando! I surf commando and run commando and I think my girlfriend is beginning to think I don't own any underwear! LOL... All of our big purchases we've made together have been on running or surfing vacations (airfare, registration, hotels, etc.)... maybe we should buy a couch too!
AHAHAHAHAHA - oh morgan. I am laughing my ass off at your jumping out of the car to meet your fellow runners :P Too funny!
Our first major purchase was our kitten Chili Pepper, totally one of the best purchases ever!
I think monetarily the biggest first purchase would have been our condo and then stuff to fill it like mattress and tv...
No commando for me - too cold!
First big purchase was our condo we bought just before we got married that she lived in and I paid for! How's that for trust!
I appreciate your honesty so much! I can't go commando because I have this weird fear of everything down there going everywhere and have instead opted for very tight underwear that my wife makes fun of me for.
I know I'm a runner because I've spent the majority of my "allowance" on races and don't have left over money for work clothes, movies, or electronics.
Have a great and safe New Year!
Did that running group realize they'd been approached by the one and only Redhead? They were the lucky ones that day, not you.
First major purchase with my wife... well, she helped me move into an apartment (her parents frowned on us living together until after we were married) and we bought a refrigerator. It was used and lasted us about three years but it was a big deal!
Going commando in running shorts: I do that all the time. I'm not so sure if I'd go commando in running tights...I'm a bit afraid that might lead to a 'camel toe' moment...
Yay for finding a group to run with! :)
i love that you randomly pulled over to talk to those runners. hahaha. i'm glad they didn't have their heads up their butts and stopped to talk!
Hi Red! Love your enthusiasm on finding new running friends. LOL! Love it!
Happy New Year to you and Spike!
that's so awesome that you found some running friends!!!! i love that you hopped out of the car to figure it out right then. my kind of woman!!
mr. dawn and i bought a dinning room table and chairs right after we got engaged. we still get compliments on it! congrats to you both!!
I hate it when my lady parts get cold.
I've actually thought about doing that too since so mnay of my running shorts have annoying built in underwear. Someday.......
This is deifnitely NOT commando seaosn, but I'd also opt to run commando over spending the rest of the day commando. REMEMBER YOUR UNDIES! Or stash an extra pair in your desk. hahaha
Congrats on the big purchase!! Too bad you have to wait so long, but I'm sure it will be worth it!
