- 2011: Is it just me or is everyone filling up their race cards for 2011??? I swear every other blog post in my reader is a 2011 race forecast and of course it's got me doing massive research and creating my own "To Do" list for 2011. Me thinks a blog preview is in order. Stay tuned...
- Facing the issue: What is up with my face? My skin has been freaking out since Old Man Winter came into town with his sub-freezing temps and bone chilling winds. Do y'all experience the same issue? How do you keep your skin clear and moisturized enough to look presentable during the winter? Got any must have products I should try? (Keep in mind I have really sensitive skin)
- Jingle Belle 5k: Saturday will officially close up the 2010 race season for me with a fun run in Lansing called the Jingle Belle, a women's only 5k that benefits the Women's Center of Greater Lansing. Fellow runners/bloggers Jen B., Jessie, Nicole and Erika will be joining me and a plethora of other women as we take on the cold and run the streets of Lansing for this great cause. The pressure is off however and I am excited to get into the holiday spirit and ham it up for 3.1 M with some awesome running friends!!!
How did you end the 2010 race season?

Sisley skincare. Will empty your piggy bank, but it's the one thing that keeps my ubersensitive skin (redheads, huh, comes with the hair color...) moisturized. And for winter runner Neutrogena cold weather cream, that will keep those little frost bites off of your skin.
I've noticed the same thing about the 2011 race calendars. I thought everyone waited until at least the END of December before posting them. Am I going to be forced to come up with my 2011 goals right away too?
Hey, I got nothing for 2011! Being the metro-sexual that I am, I use petroleum jelly on my exposed skin in the winter.
I finished my race season with a Thanksgiving day 5k with my mom. :)
About the 2011 calendars, I think that runners are so goal oriented we can't handle not having something on our schedules and have to think so far ahead just to stay sane! Makes me nervous though that races are going to fill up really quickly!
Good luck with the winter dryness! I have problems keeping my hands moisturized!
Have fun at the 5K! Sounds like it'll be a great time!
I am not even thinking about 2011 yet because there are no races to run until like march cause we have too much snow!
I use cetaphil face wash because I have really sensitive since too. It isn't too harsh on my skin and then I use the cetaphil moisturizer only at night because it makes me look a little greasy but it hydrates which I like. for day time I use a knock of the clean and clean moisturizer from target. It keeps my face from looking too shiny but also keeps it looking good. Hope that helps a little!
I have extremely sensitive skin and had to switch to vanicream everything (lotion, soap, sunscrean, etc) to get my face (and pretty much the rest of my skin) under control.
Everyone does seem to be filling out their dance cards already. I can't bring myself to commit that far out yet. So many races, so little time!
I like to use ProActiv's skin moisturizer. I especially love their Green Tea one - it's really thin and smells pretty good.
Funny thing, my skin has been all goofy lately too. Must be my sourpuss tude coming out on my skins. Le sigh.
In other news have fun at your 5K Boo!
I have been tempted to start filling up my 2011 race calendar but have decided to see how the Houston Marathon goes first. If other stuff fills up, it wasn't meant to be.
I'm still thinking of 2011, I'll post it eventually. My face has seem to have adjusted to freezing cold, can't say the same about the rest of my body.
i know! everyone is talking about 2011 like its here already...i mean, yes it is...but still. i feel like i'm WAY behind. part of it is, i can't see past april....but whatever.
i have super oily skin, so i love winter when everything is drier. i do get really chapped/cracked lips. we keep a humidifier in our bedroom and just got a larger one for the living room. it's amazing how big a difference it makes overnight. with it, i don't wake up with blood everywhere from a cracked lip.
so jealous that you guys are all getting together for the 5k! wish i could come...stupid holiday parties and whatnot...always taking up my time...
i hate that we're forced to look so far ahead w/ races b/c of the risk of them selling out. so hard to know what i want to do a year from now.
as for the skin...i was just reading yesterday that people swear adding cocount oil (unrefined) to their diets does wonders for their skin. i have really sensitive dry skin so i was going to try it.
It is crazy now with setting up race schedules for 2011 since most races are already filling up in certain parts, and depending on the sport. I have less than 24 hours to sign up for a tri on January 1st that takes place on June 5th! Some races I am waiting for the lottery to get into. What happened to the show up race morning with $10?
My 2010 season has been over for months! I say slather some petroleum jelly on your face to protect from the dry winter air. Cheers!
In general, m y skin really dried ou during winter. It's the driness in the air. Have fun this weekend at your race!
I know the hard-core folks smear vaseline on their faces, but I can't. I use the oil of olay night cream - it's pink! - post run in the winter.
also, I have not officially planned a single race for 2011 yet, as I'm still in recovery and trying to not count chickens, etc. BUT there are a lot of thoughts going around in my head!!!!!!
1) I use a Vaseline-like cream on really dry spots. Can't remember the brand, but it's clear and goopy like Vaseline but it's not Vaseline. I also use vanicream lotion - drugstore.com. I have even more sensitive skin trust me.
2) I already forgot what you're post is about. I think I am doing these in the wrong order as well. I am commenting via phone as usual so that dedication more than makes up for my memory skillz
3) 2011 plans are overrated - no need to rush it! I am trying to survive the last bit of '10 before zooming on to '11. Shouldn't dream your life away...
Pardon any typos. I get tired of typing on this stupid screen and sometimes the iPhone likes to make assumptions about what word I am typing.
Look at the post I wrote recently with the Clarisonic review... I found this AMAZING moisturizing lotion... Neutrogena. Winter breakouts usually happen because your face gets SO dry with the cold and your skin produces more oil than normal to make up for it. Dontcha hate the freezing cold?
Ah, yes, the winter skin issue. First and foremost make sure you are well hydrated. Fish oil supplements also help with dry skin (look for one that says enteric coated or "burpless" -- gross, I know).
I searched high and low for a moisturizer for my sensitive skin (I tend to get breakouts and dry skin, yay me) that didn't contain any oil whatsoever. Some of the manufacturer's labels are misleading and will say oil free when in fact they are not. I finally found one from Ulta called derma-24 anti-oxidant oil free daily moisturizer by c. booth. It costs $16 for a 2oz jar, smells OK, goes on smooth and doesn't leave your face all oily. I use it morning and night.
To protect my lips on winter runs I use bag balm. It comes in this huge green jar which is going to last me 115 years but it works so well! Incidentally, it works wonders to clear up chaffed areas overnight. This, however, does not smell pleasant.
Still deciding on 2011 races...
Happy Jingle Belle running.
I'm with you on #2.
What the crap? 30 and break outs. ugggg.
Can't wait to see how your 2011 fills up!!
#1 I've been on it since yesterday but I got stuck with February. Can't choose between two race events. 0_0
Ive been sick for two days. Saturday should be interesting... oh and FREEZING. This will be my first ever winter race... or ahem, slog-- (slow jog)... Ive been toying with the idea of my 2010 race schedule.... stay tuned. See you saturday!
my skin has been soooo dry. i tried using a few different moisturizers or putting more, but nothing helped.
then i got a tip from the lady that does my eyebrows: use olive oil on ur face before sleep a few nights of the week.
i used it like 2 or 3 times a week, and it works!!!!
good luck
and looking forward to ur 2011 calendar
Can't wait to see what you have planned for 2011, I think you need a race in Cali ;)
I guess my last race was last weekend! Unless I somehow squeeze something else in which I HIGHLY doubt ;) have fun this weekend!
hmm, yeah, guess my 2010 races are over. The last one i ran was a Thanksgiving race. I hope you have some big things planned for 2011! :-) Can't wait to see!
Yay! Fune! Good luck at the 5K! I ended my racing season already...and posted my zombie like picture just for you :)
Not gonna lie...a little freaked out about how effing cold its going to be on Saturday! That being said I can't wait to run with you!
I have my 2011 pretty much planned out (mostly because for tri's, you have to sign up super early) but I am totally not writing about 2011 until 2011 gets here!
We are working on the 2011 calendars... not revealing til closer to the end of the year. :) You should have fun picking from the MI races this year!
Funny you mention that about your skin... when we were in FL in January, my skin suddenly got SOOO dry and I could not save it for anything! Must have been a really dry cold?
NO! I still have NOOOOOO races for 2011. I really need to get on that.... (Your MI offer is still on the table....)
Don't worry- I haven't planned out my 2011 race calendar either! So far only 1 race is confirmed...
I will be finishing up the 2010 race season with a 5K on New Years Eve!! Can't wait!!
