- Zumba: Over the weekend a friend of mine talked me into joining her for a Zumba class Monday night. I'm pretty open to trying new things so I said sure even though I had heard mixed reviews and already had a lunch time 5 M planned for the day... 55 minutes of gyrating like a possessed monkey later, I've decided that Zumba isn't really my cup of tea. Awkward white girl moves aside, this runner body really only knows one motion: Forward.
Have you ever tried Zumba? What did you think?!?!? Is it just me or are the instructor's on crack?!? LOL!
- The Triple Threat: In preparation for Ragnar I ran a double last week and another run the following evening. This week I lined up a triple in simulation of the race: 3 runs, less than 24 hours apart, at similar mileage to my race legs. 2 pace workouts and the last where I just tried my best to survive. Here's how it went down:
Run #1 - 7.15 M @ 8:16 P (Wednesday a.m.)
Run #2 - 7.15 M @ 8:09 P (Wednesday p.m.)
Run #3 - 7 M @ 8:42 P (Thursday a.m.) - Countdown: T-Minus 2 days until we move! No more 120 mile daily round trips to work! Yay!!! T-Minus 6 days until we head down to Florida for Ragnar!!! So excited to see B.o.B, the B.R.A. and the rest of my Florida peeps!!! T-Minus 11 days til I get to see my FA-THA and the rest of the fam for the Thanksgiving holiday!!! T-Minus 13 days til I get to meet Heather at the Highlands Ranch Turkey Day 5k!!! (Anybody else in the Denver area wanna join us?!?!)
What are you counting down to?!?!?

Glad to know I'm not the only one who doesn't like Zumba.
I'm counting down until Christmas when I finally get back to the states and my full rough draft of the diss is completed. December cannot come fast enough for me.
Good luck with the move and the relay!
Holy recovery over girl! You're killing it on the runs. You give me hope that my injury will soon be over and I'll be running triples again!
I'm counting down to my gay bff in town for the weekend and VERMONT for Thanksgiving!
I would love to see some video action from that Zumba class:) I have yet to try it but I have no doubt I would be a disaster.
i've done zumba...eh, it was ok. now, i am a white girl who loves to shake what my momma gave me...but it was just kind of ok. i never really got my heart rate anywhere and i felt like the other people in the class didn't really care to be sweating at all. some people swear by it though...
have fun in florida! sounds like its going to be amazing.
i haven't signed up for my turkey trot yet. hope to do it today :) i'll be in the chicago land area....but have fun in denver!
Have fun in FL!! I wish I was doing the race but I have to many other races going on. I have a TRI in Miami this weekend.

After careful analysis my recommendation is to only take legs during Ragnar in the PM!
i've tried zumba. it was fun, but i'm not very coordinated!
I'm countin' down to your bad-ass-ness!
Zumba fo' life!
Good luck with the move!
my sister loves zumba and i want to try it but i'm nervous to go alone and make a fool out of myself. i need a partner to take some of the embarassment off me!
I've done Zumba and it was like a night at the club! I should probably sign up for Dancing with the Stars...... ha
i like Zumba, but i looove to dance.
ooh rangnar....sounds awesome! u guys will all do amazing!!! good luccckkkkK!!!
sounds like you've had an awesome week!!
I tried Zumba once, with my wife, and she forbade me from doing it again. Not because of anything I did, but there were these three instructors -- a blonde, brunette, and a redhead -- one skinny, one medium, and one extra curvy -- something for everyone. They were a lot of fun, too. They cracked jokes and said off-color things, and generally made the time pass quickly. Eye-candy and bawdiness aside, it was a good workout. Afterward, I said, "this was great." She was like, "Yeah, you're never coming back to this again."
Good luck at Ragnar! Sounds like a lot of fun!
"gyrating like a possessed monkey" <-- LMFAO!!! I have watched the Zumba classes and it is sooo not something I want to do. I think I would feel like a big dufus in there. Good on ya for trying it out!
WOOHOO for moving AND Ragnar coming up. Awesome times.
I'm about to explode with excitement!!! Going to be a total blast and I CANNOT wait to see you. Muah!
I've never tried Zumba, since I'm a white girl all the way through and don't feel like embarrassing myself!
120 miles? good grief, sister!
nice triple! glad all your leg parts are behaving!
You have sooo much to look forward to.. Wow I thought my 60 miles round trip was bad. URGH!!
Hugs little lady!
Good look at the relay and moving. Zumba has always sounded absurd to me, but I guess it's not exactly marketed toward average white guys with equally awkward moves. Cheers!
I was trying to do a yoga class that was next door to the Zumba class and was highly distracted. That is my only experience with Zumba. Nice work on being open to other possibilities.
I should be in Denver during most of Thanksgiving if you want to meet up for coffee, again. It could become part of your annual Thanksgiving trip in Denver.
Or, we could do a run, perhaps, if you have time. I would love to see you. Let me know.
Yeah, this white girl doesn't Zumba either! Look at those speedy times of yours...if aqua slogging got you there, girl, i need to start slogging.
Happy for the move. Does that mean you will be updating your wardrobe to include some maize and blue?!
I've never tried Zumba. It doesn't seem like my thing either.
Where I live I wonder if they have ever heard of Zumba...but think I'm too white anyway. Forward. I like that too.
Yeah for you triple. Awesome way to train for your Ragnar.
120 miles. Yuck! Love all your countdowns. I'm simply counting down to Friday. I need another weekend.
Yeah...I am way too white girl for Zumba. I look and feel ridiculous!
No experience or interest in Zumba. Good for you for trying it.
Way to triple up!
I've never tried Zumba but I'm very intrigued. My friend seems to like it though =)
I actually tried Zumba for the first time last night. It was strange, but I might go back next week. My problem is i have zero rhythm, so i look like an idiot.
HA - you mean you don't love dancing awkwardly in a room full of people?! Dang. I think I'd like Zumba, but the instructor could totally make/break it...
LOVE the countdowns! 13 days - whaat?! Gonna get our 5K O-N.
I have never tried Zumba and I dont really plan on ever trying it. Just not my thing!
Great job on the three workouts! That is so tough and you did awesome! You are definitely ready for Ragnar!
I think zumba is lame too... mostly because i dont get my heart rate up! :) this white chick can shake it!
Zumba was fun for a rest day. It didn't get my HR up as much as I like.
Yes, the instructors are on crack LOL!
1) dang yo, nice paces on the triple-threat!
2) zumba... i hardly have the coordination for a cardio-exercise class w/ those step bench thingies... but at least the step classes make me feel worked out. dancing... would not, b/c i am so awkward. i'm surprised you don't have some sort of moves leftover from the rave days.
3) i almost forgot to do a three-things-thcomment. but i remembered just in time to add this third thing.
I think it so funny to read what you have to say about Zumba. I'm not even going to try it because I already know that I'd feel the same way. I am awful at classes like this. Forward is the only way I'm good at moving too. I look so awkward and "white girl" like when I try any of these classes. And I get such a better sweat and calorie burn just by hitting the road and running! So Thankful that I can run again and hoping for no more injuries!! Running is an everything workout!
Just found your blog. I LOVE zumba!!!! It is the best thing next to running.
Ooh, so happy you'll be moving closer to work. Commuting a long way in the morning is no fun. And I want to try zumba sometime soon even though I'm not a great dancer. We'll see how it goes for this girl. :)
You are getting fast girlie! Good work!
And good luck moving - I've moved too many times to count and each time it sucks! Hahaha!
Good luck!
I thought that I was a pretty hip, happening guy, but I have NEVER heard of Zumba. That makes me feel OLD! :)
