First Quarter Cohabitation Recap

*This is mostly a non-running related post. Just saying.

Where does the time go? Did ya'll know I have lived in Michigan for three months already! Yes sir, three months ago today after trekking cross country 1,200± miles with my beloved Rixy I arrived here in the High Five State and began my new life as a Michigander. (One would think I'd have gotten around to getting a state i.d. by now right? Notsomuch.) With that being said, I thought it was high time I did a quick recap:

Observations:

Bottle Refunds. I can't for the life of me remember that I get $.10 refund on pop bottles so I continue to wastefully throw them away. Cash refundage FAIL!

Smokers. What is up with all the smokers? Seriously. Didn't anyone get the memo that smoking causes cancer?

Dunkin Donuts. It's no wonder there is an obesity problem, they're on more street corners than Starbucks.

Weather Complaints. Northerners never stop complaining about the weather; it's either too hot or too cold. Aren't you ever happy?

State Tax. With the second worst unemployment rate in the country I ask: Why? (I totally forgot about this lovely gem while being spoiled in state tax free bliss in Florida!)

Canadian Geese. Still hate 'em.

Don't get me wrong though, it's not all bad and while I still miss all things Orlando immensely, I am slowly adjusting to life here in the E.L. (East Lansing for those not down with the local lingo)

For starters there's the obvious Spike factor, hello I wouldn't be here otherwise! Life with Spike is fantabulous, I couldn't be happier... well maybe if he'd stop accusing me of stealing his socks but that's a whole other story. I also absolutely love my job, every day I learn something new and grow in the position. I've also become rather partial to:

Sun Runner. She's my first real Michigan friend and running partner. She has been a savior during a few training runs and has helped me save my sanity during this injury. By sheer luck we realized we worked within minutes of each other so we've been having a weekly lunch date. <3>

Playmakers. Not quite my beloved Track Shack, but pretty darn close.

Lake Lansing. Nothing like Lake Eola but it has captured my heart nonetheless with its magnificent views (and extra mileage) that make an otherwise boring run amazing.

The Grand River Trail. It goes on seemingly forever as it winds its way through the MSU campus, the Potter Park Zoo and beyond as I found out yesterday during my 20 M bike ride that landed me in the heart of Downtown Lansing. I can't wait to go even further next time!

Cosi & Shuler's Chapbook Cafe. *Insert Homer Simpson's Drool Sound Here*

Grand River Coffee Cafe. My most favorite place to get caught up in a good book or mindlessly surf the web.

Family. Since I've been back I've gotten to spend more time with my family then I collective have in years. Its been great hanging out with the cousins and spending quality time with my brothers.

Spike. I know I already mentioned him but he's worth mentioning again because he rocks my socks and I love his face off. End Schmoopy.

your post about michigan is much nicer than what i used to say about it!! my biggest compliment was that i could buy booze and beer when grocery shopping (can't do that in PA).

It's so true about the weather complaints. My mom still lives in northern ohio (just a stones throw from the mitten) and all she does is complain about the weather. I don't know if the weather in NM is truly better or not, but since the complaining has stopped, it sure SEEMS better. LOL

Awwww my Boo Bear! I'm so happy for you and Spike. I'm glad things are going well. I can't wait to see you and catch up via FACE to FACE. :) LOVE U!

Seems like you're blending in up there. ;) And it's totally OK that you mentioned Spike twice! :) Love the post!

You lucky, lucky femme you! Glad to hear that all is well in your new world.

Cosi bread is so freaking good and should be the standard. And yes, us Northerners definitely complain incessantly about the weather because we really haven't come to terms with our limited options of skin singeing heat or eyelash freezing cold. We'll shut up about it when fall gets here. Promise :)

Ha, that is a different view of the High-five state than I accustomed to. It is truly a small world, I ran a beer mile with Sun Runner a few weeks back.

I bet you don't miss our ridiculous humidity!

Michigander, get that ID! It'll feel more "official" ;)

Either way, it does sound like life in the E.L is settling and treating you nicely :)

ahh moving is such a shift in soooo many ways. I used to just have a big bin to toss all my recylcing in and then take it out, now I have to remember to put it in a teeny bucket under my sink and then walk it 18 floors down to some weird back alley in our condo

You DO seal his socks!

We missed you terribly at the Orlando bloggy meet up Saturday, but I did get to see Robin. Can you believe it's been 9 months since we met for the first time?? Crazy how the time flies! I am so glad that you are finding things to love in Michigan. And most importantly , that you love Spike's face off and that you get more family time....really, what is better than that???

I heart Dunkin' Doughnuts - it's a good thing they are not out here in California! I had Ari have a box of them ready at the finish line of Boston this year! LOL!

Love the shmoopiness ;)

Wow, 3 months!!! Glad you are (mostly!) loving it! I literally laughed out loud at the sock comment because hubs and I are constantly accusing one another of sock thievery!

Congrats on a successful quarter year of life with Spike. You don't think it's too hot or too cold? You will.

The proper name is actually Canada Geese. Be careful, they'll peck your eyes out and poop on your shoes. Cheers!

yes sales tax stinks! and I think they are not even doing the tax free weeks any more (well at least thats the case in my state). And we do complain about the weather all the time! lol Basically we just love spring and fall!

It has been three wonderful months! And we are just about to begin the best time of the year, fall.

Also, I know you took my sock. I don't know why, I'm not sure what you are trying to do, but I'm on to you.

schoomps.

you need to get well soon so we don't have to get more schmoopy news. instead of a training recap we get live-in-boyfriend updates... i mean i love you and all, but you're just not as exciting as lindsay lohan. maybe if you guys started doing some coke? that could make things interesting.

i can't wait to hear about the MI update when it starts snowing 24/7.

and jk about the coke. drugs are bad yo.

I love Dunkin Donuts myself especially the egg white sandwiches and a plain iced coffee.

I still get cranky when people throw bottles away.

Adam said...

Uh oh... Jess is going to be mad (as well as my wife if she sees this) but I totally love it that AZ doesn't have redemption like IA used to. I would always throw away cans and then get yelled at.
