3 Things Thursday

  1. This week while out exploring the area around my new gig I found a runner's dream come true: REI next to Whole Foods!!! Healthy Food next to Running Gear?!?!? Yes please!!! I've heard so much about REI but they didn't have them in Orlando so I'm stoked to make my first trip and after I've worked up a healthy appetite I can get my snack on next door! Woot!!!

  2. After my weekend recap post Coach EK shot me an email wanting the lowdown on my lower leg issues; after a few exchanges we decided I should take Monday off (Hills) to get some extra R & R. Unfortunately the extra rest didn't have the desired effect and my legs are still just as sore as ever. I'm getting beyond frustrated at this point because I'm doing everything I've been instructed to do by professionals, the distance and pace are entirely manageable and yet this never ending soreness persists. Melissa suggested D.O.M.S. but after reading up on it, I just can't imagine this could be an ongoing issue for weeks at a time. Anyone have any thoughts?

  3. Thankfully, its another step down week for me and I only have 12 M on deck for Saturday, although as I stated above the pace and distance isn't whats bothering me. Nicole and I are trying to coordinate a run so hopefully I'll have someone to share the misery miles with again! :)

You changed the layout of the blog a little! I like it.

For the next installment of our weekly lunch, we should do the REI/Whole Foods doubleheader together. It's more fun to drool over fancy athletic gear with someone who knows exactly WHY you're drooling over the fancy gear (and who won't roll his/her eyes and say, "Can we GO now?")

REI/Whole Foods - YES!

you must have a long commute to work if your office is near a whole foods! Yikes. Sounds like it hasn't cut into your running time too much though, so that's good! I would get in trouble with that combo!

Good luck with your run this weekend. Unfortunately I don't have any advice on your pain, I just hope it clears up for you soon!

Hmmmm. What are these DOMS you speak of? I must investigate. Miss you Boo Bear. Hope you have a great run this weekend.

Ugh, so frustrating! Have you tried compression? Run in compression sleeves or socks, and wear them around all day too!

Some peeps that I run with have had an array of calf/ankle/achilles issues and the compression seems to be helping.

I'm on a step back this week too! Woot!

SO frustrating girl! You are working so hard to make the pain go away. I feel for you. I agree with Marlene. Compression works wonders for my lower legs. But I'm pretty sure you already rock the socks...

I can feel your pain! Been there, done that - I'm sure rest really is the best Rx.
Good luck on the 12 miler! It's so nice to have a step-down week :)

Whole Foods next to REI. My wallet is weeping just thinking about it. I should get a mention in both of their financial statements each quarter.

Hope you crack the code of your leg issues soon. It's always a challenge to find that right mix. I certainly haven't found it yet.

Boo to hear you're still having lower leg issues. What's up with that? I'm not sure what it is because I don't have specifics but I think you're doing the best you can with it.

Rest and recover well!

There's an REI next to Whole Foods in one of the suburb towns I used to work in. It's a good thing I don't work there anymore! My husband looooooves REI. Our REI has more hiking, cycling stuff as opposed to running, but, they have Gu, etc which I love.

Do you foam roll? I thought that you do, but I can't remember. I think that foam rolling is 100% due to my lack of lower leg pain. 100%

Hopefully you will feel better soon and not have any more soreness. Maybe try foam rolling?? Hope the 12 miler goes well! have a good weekend!

In college after long runs we went straight to ice baths up to our chest for 20 minutes....always made me feel better. Sounds like it is more serious though. I'm not a doctor but it sounds like the inflammation isn't going down? Everytime I run lately I get this aweful IT Band issue....and I can hardly walk for the next three days after only 5 miles! Its aweful! Hang in there!

REI is dangerous! You'll be trapped with wants all over the place!

What about doing some of your runs on trails? The varied and softer terrain could likely help take some of the repetitive strain off of you lower legs. Of course, be careful that you won't roll your lankle, but the 2150's hold up pretty well on trails.

I'd go broke if I had an REI next to a whole foods. Oh wait, I am broke. Can you go broker than broke?

The REI is in A2 right?!? we should go sometime! it would be fun! plus i wouldnt be dragging someone in that had no passion for starring endlessly at running clothes! i'll text you right now about our run... i may end up just doing 12 too...meh!

You can have your REI/Whole Foods, I'll stick to my Playmakers/Taco Bell!

Nobody is sader than I am that your leggers hurt.

Get better my love.

Maybe you can get an MRI to get a definitive answer on what's going on with your poor legs?

Run away as fast as you can & as far as you can if they try to put you in a boot though.

I have nothing running related to write about. Just wanted to say I miss you terribly!!!!

Try doing some walking or swimming to help with the pain in your legs...plus the foam roller. It should help you out.

Hey now, wait a minute. :-D I didn't know it was ongoing and *asked* if it was DOMS. LOL

Seriously, I'm so sorry that you're having phantom leg issues. Maybe orthotics would help? I dunno, grasping at straws.

Go get a good massage. And, if that doesn't work? Drink a bottle of wine and you just won't care anymore.

My REI is next to a Trader Joes. Mostly I just get odds and ends there (I do almost all my shopping on runningwarehouse.com) but they have great member rewards!

REI/Whole Foods? Outstanding! Now don't get too disappointed - REI isn't really a "running" store. You can call it more a "serious outdoor sports store". Top rate equipment at reasonable prices. Also - make sure you get a membership - it's free and you get a "dividend" (10% of what you buy every year) in a check at the end of the year. REI is like my Disneyland!
