A Sacrifice to the Running Gods

I approach the temple, leaving muddy footprints in my wake...

As I kneel before the pedestal, sweat mixed with rain drips from my brow...

Eyes downcast out of respect, I lay my offering at their feet;

A Rain Soaked 10 Mile Hill Workout

In the silence I fear my offering pales in comparison to those of my Northern brethren;

with their sub-zero temps and treacherous ice covered terrain.

I am not worthy of the gods favor but I pray they recognize my dedication...

where once I might have avoided the elements, today I braved them heart and soul.

I plead my desire for favorable weather on race day and back humbly away...

and thus my sacrifice to the Running Gods has been made.

As long as you don't feed a dollar bill to a goat I think you're OK. :)

Kick ass girl! And don't worry about your "Northern brethren," as they can boast their hardcore-ness now, but we pay our dues down here in Hades and 100 percent humidity come July!

Totally HARDCORE :-)

That's awesome. Sometimes you have to pay for the nice weather, I agree...

Well I'm glad the red head was sacrificed and not me. Lol.

I ran today and the weather was great and the birdies were chirping.

I'm sorry you guys are so cold lately. The weather here is wonderful.

Way to go on being dedicated though!

You are too much, Redhead! TOO MUCH!
A sacrifice to the running gods so you can outrun the Gorilla? Too much work, I would've settled for a bike or a cheap pair of skates! LOL!

Jamoosh said...

What, no small animals? I can only hope the Running Gods like redheads...

May the force be with you. I will pray for good weather for you. :)

A rain soaked, hilly 10 definitely gets you some mercy in my book...then again I'm no running god...

You are way more hardcore than me! It was raining yesterday, and I said, "Eff this! Treadmill, here I come!"

I don't know what I'm going to do when I move back west. Florida has made me a softie.

This weather has been horrible!! WTF? It makes me want to stay in bed all day long!

Running hills makes the running gods mad! But we need to train on hills.

Love this post! Maybe I should pray to the running Gods to take away the snow so I can get back outside!

busyrunningmama said...

you are too silly!
I am proud of ya for not only conquering the hills but running in the rain.....
Who are you and what did you do with the redhead????

Adam said...

Awwww crap. I haven't sacrificed shit:
Raining? Treadmill
Hills? Not in PHX
Sweat? Umm, not in 10% humidity and 50 degrees (actually, kidding on that one)

My races this year are going to SUCK.

I'm going to borrow this today, as I have a run in the rain too! It's California! It's suppossed to be sunshine everyday!

Marlene said...

I am IMPRESSED. I know my little Redhead does NOT do rain. Way to face the elements, with a HILL workout no less! HARDCORE!

Holy mother of harcore-ness! 10 miles in the rain? And hills no less?

I now bow down and pay my respects to YOU

Hills? Rain? You're a rockstar.

If no blood was spilled ... then I'm not really sure they will listen ... I'll send you a vial of mine ... it's potent and lethal ... they'll understand.

Debbie said...

I walked into the school to work today in the rain. That was sacrifice enough for me.

Runeatrepeat said...

Despite my chant, "I love hills, I love hills..." during races - I really hate them.

lindsay said...

i do not run in the rain. maybe if it was like 70+ degrees, maybe. but when it's warm it's usually thunderstorming so i don't run in the rain then either.

basically, you're nuts.

Karma is real in running. Running hills in the rain produces good karma.

And you will be blessed with 26.2++ miles of pain free and leg-fast running my child.. LOL!!

momof3 said...

... sick. genius. but a little sick.

I love running in the rain, then I can feel superior to my running friends who prefer the dreadmill. What? Come On, I know I'm not the ONLY one who's had that thought...

The Happy Runner said...

I hope those running gods look kindly on you, girl!

Did it awaken your inner child to run in the rain for 10 miles? Just the thought makes me giddy!

I'm glad you did it! Runners are bad *#@
