The Final Hill Workout... with Amanda from Run to the Finish!

This Gasparilla cycle marked a first for me for a lot of things, Hills being one of them. I had done a hill or two during Chicago training but not regularly and not a specific weekly workout of them. This go around I staked the city and found not one but two "hills" to try my luck on. They aren't the most intimidating hills and merit no real respect against ya'll's hills but they are all I have to work with so I have set up my own little hill workout and have dedicated the last 13 Monday nights to them. I started out running them on the Cady Way bridge but after that first go round I realized that it's not a safe place for me to be running repeats alone at night. Since I do them after work I got stuck out there in the dark and had to run the secluded path back to my car all by my scaredy cat lonesome. No bueno. Ixnay on the Cady Way.

Since then I've been running my other "hill" with thunderous success and nary a scaredy cat in sight but have been pining to go to Cady Way again. Last week Amanda from Run to the Finish mentioned she would be in town this week and would love to meet up for a run Monday night. So I told her it was my final hill workout and she agreed to tag along. What better day to tackle Cady Way again! So she met me at my digs after work last night and we headed over.

Pre-Run; She's so cute and tiny but tall!

Once at the Cady Way park, we trotted over to the hill, I gave her a quick run down of how I do my hill repeats (up, over and back = 1 repeat = .6 miles) and we split up to do our own thing for the remainder of the 30 min. It was fun having someone out there with me, even if we weren't doing them together. I felt like they were over in minutes... oh glorious Taper!

Yes I know, your Hill is bigger than my "Hill"

All sweaty after a great final hill workout

Afterwards we headed over to Jason's Deli for some yummy eats and more running/life convo. It was so fun to have met/ran with her and we both were like, blogging/running is so much fun! By the end of the night I seriously felt like we were old friends, conversation just flowed and we were cracking up about being a runner/blogger and all that it entails. I really hope I can make it down her way soon to run along the beach and maybe hit up her "hill" too. I will tell you this, she's going to rock Seattle Marathon this summer!

I love to run hills, I know I am weird, but it is the only way to keep what little butt I have! Now all I need is a hill partner in my neck of the woods, been looking for years...smile! All my friends run the other way when I mention hills...go figure! You two rock!!!
Yours in Health, Robin

I'm smiling at your hill. I guess it's not your fault you don't live in my town. :)

I wanna have a blogger meet up! I've only been blogging for 2 months so hopefully I'll get as good as you! Enjoy your taper!

I was going to say my hill is bigger than your hill, but you're training for Gasparilla...

Nice work! Sounds like a fun way to get in hill work and hang with a new buddy. :) I always run alone, so it's nice to sometimes have some company.

nice hillin'! I think I'm going to incorporate hills into my next round of marathon training as well(although there really aren't any hills to speak of on the Chicago course).

Great job on the hills! I've never really incorporated hills into my workout since I've had such problems with shinsplints in the past, but I know how important they are. They're going to prepare you well!

Love it! What a fun bloggy eet-up!

So, Amanda isn't a psycho? Because I'm meeting her in Seattle... can I use you as a reference for the hubs? LOL!

Ha Ha, I have plans to take my camera to my hill today ... I swear I'd planned that before I read your post, I'm not really into "mine is bigger than yours" LOL

Yay for making a workout more fun via meeting new friends, and yay! for tapering :)

you call that a hill? then you'd be right, that is a hill. glad the last time you spent with it went well.

So jealous the two of you got to meet up and run hills! Great job on the workout girlies - you def earned that dinner afterwards!
That is an awesome hill - and you're gonna rock Gorilla like no one else :)

Great job! You're super lucky to have had such an awesome bloggy meetup!

One way of looking at your hill is that it is bigger than any hill in the Tampa marathon! And a hill workout is about pace and training, not always the size of the hill!

That's sooooo cool - you always meet up with the most awesome bloggies; I hope to be there with ya one day ;). Nice hill work...I'm getting so excited for your marathon!

LOL you can HAVE some of my hills! My city is far too hilly for my liking, especially the neighbourhood I live in!!

I am always so jealous of blogger/runner meet-ups, although the reality of running with someone else makes me nervous.

Way to rock the hill work!

ah, the HILLS! I don't do them "regularly" as a workout - but gah, they pop up all over the place here in DC, so I get enough as it is ;) haha. Or, at least that's what I'm telling myself.

Fun blogger meet-up idea, and cute pics!

That's awesome that you got to run with a blog bud. So cool. And hills suck, but you look well-prepared for them.

I'm sure you've already had 34098324 people send you sunshine but here's some from me!!

So fun that you guys got to run together!

Sounds like so much fun! I love both of your blogs, so it's cool to see you getting to run together!

I train mostly in Central Park which is basically just a big huge non-stop hill workout! It's both good and bad. Congrats on getting in some hill training for Gasparilla!

How fun you got to meet up and run! I'm afraid your hill is bigger than mine. Really slim pickins in these parts!

Blogger meet-up, how fun! I need to find a hill in this area, we're seriously lacking.

Hey chica I just found two cool ass applications for cell phones that you might like. I posted them on my blog.

They are bad ass. I am not one to usually promote companies but these are legit and one of the applications is free.

Come check it out at my blog or email me. The one shows calories lost and slope and topography.

Just thought I'd let you know since you like running those hills!

Great that you an Amanda got to run together and hang out! You two look great in your photos.

Awesome hill repeats. I am still stuck on the treadmill for long runs and hills until they clear some of the snow.

Have a great rest of your week.

So fun that you two met, I still wish we could have as well! Oh well, one day :) Love that caption that goes along with the picture of "the hill". Enjoy your taper!!

Its a good hill!! I honestly Hate Hills! I curse them when I run up them! And they are all over the place where I live! I cant run anywhere without going UPHILL!!! I love to go and visit Brians family because they live where its all flat!

Denise said...

that's so cool that you met amanda!! sounds like a fun time!

lindsay said...

i can't wait for you to come visit me in sc... haha and hills in my area aren't all that bad, but there are a few gruesome ones. plus in my opinion hills 'flatten out' when you try to photograph them so i give you extra credit.

i admire you for doing hill repeats. i keep finding excuses for not doing them, but i did do 30 min on the stairmaster last night like a sorority girl!

rUntoNamAste said...

Yes, (un)fortunately my hills are bigger than your hills, but I rarely run those bad boys and I certainly don't do repeats on them. But you've inspired me to stop being a wuss, grab a buddy and bang out some repeats. Should be fun, just like your little rendezvous :) Enjoy your well deserved taper!

Your hill does look a lot like my hill :) mine just usually don't have the water underneath.

ps. YOU'RE GOING TO ROCK THE RACE THIS WEEKEND!!!
