3 Things Thursday

  1. First and foremost, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE BRUNETTE!!!
Can't wait to live it up with you this weekend! Have a wonderful day girl! Love you!!!

  2. And the winner, winner chicken dinner for the Anniversary Giveaway is...

Actually first I would like to mention that hardly any of ya'll entered properly (as Lindsay pointed out in the comment section) so the list of bonafide entries were small and was held using names on slips of paper but because I love ya'll anyway I did a second drawing for a slightly smaller scaled gift for everyone else who at least left a comment minus a question:

Grand Prize Winner (aka followed directions): Tammy - I will have Ebs put me together a list of the products she uses to answer your question about her great hair when I send your gift! :)

Runner-up Winner (aka didn't follow directions but I still love ya anyway): Carlee

Ladies please send me your mailing addresses to redheadrunning(@)gmail

Thanks again everyone for reading and I'm glad ya'll got a good laugh out of the post and my exceptional crew of friends. There was an overwhelming request for explanations on the raver girl hair situation and the falling out of the window incident so be on the look out for a future post on those... *hangs head in shame* I just need to throw aside my dignity and dig up some old pics first... D@mn you Rixy!!! Have I ever mentioned I used to be a colorfully dressed drunk girl in college?

  3. It was crazy cold this morning in O-town and rather than put The Brunette aka my trusty bike pacer through that kind of torture, on her birthday no less, or run a 9 mile pace workout at 5am all by myself, I opted to attempt a Dreadmill run... I lasted 3 miles. This is only my 3rd attempt at the Dreadmill ever. I still HATE it, want to stab my eye out with a pen and don't understand the appeal of running in place for any length of time. How on earth do ya'll manage this day after day, hour after hour? I would loose my ever living mind!!! Sooo... that being said I packed a running bag and will try to crank out as many miles as I can on my lunch break today. I've never done that before but then again it's always too hot and humid to run on my lunch break. Not today folks! Wish me luck on my Nooner... tee hee... ;)

EDIT: Jamoosh all but called me a pansy for the weather... well for the record it was 32 degrees this morning with 15-20mph winds! That is much colder than 50 degrees thankyouverymuch! I have braved far lower temps but not alone for 9 miles @ 5 a.m. and not with head winds!!! >:P

Yes, we'd love to see pictures!!!

And I hate the treadmill, but hate being cold even worse! Good luck today!

So excited to see these pictures!!Good luck today!

You can't say "crazy cold" in O-Town without reference. You live in Florida - crazy cold would be 50 degrees. Be still my warm tushy!

x2 on hating the Dreadmill. I did 80 laps on the indoor track at the gym last night. It was a focused run with intervals so the snow covered sidewalks were out.
track > dreadmill.

The key to treadmill running is to have a set plan to change speed or incline every 0.25 to 0.5 mile. That way you force your body to adapt to a little variety and it won't seem so bad. A good TV show or movie doesn't hurt either. That is all!

You still rock BTW!

This is not an ordinary winter in Florida this year. I'm calling it more like a North Carolina winter. Just think... this summer when Hades returns you can think back and say "at least it's not like that day of the Disney Marathon!"

happy Thursday! I hate the treadmill too BUT when you live in NY, you have to run on it otherwise I would never get all my runs in. Theres just too much snow!

OK, with the dreadmill, yeah, it totally sucks, but, at my gym, a few of the dreadmills have personal TVs so, running in place for an hour or so isn't that bad when I get to watch TV. I will however jump off a bridge before I will run on one of the treadmills without a personal TV b/c the TV banks are always set to some super boring (err, the Golf Channel?) show and that's almost as bad as no TV at all. In my opinion.

But, I'd much prefer to run outside as well.

Awww Happy Birthday DAWN! Tall girl love :)

I could hardly stand taking Daisy out to pee this morning...what the f? I only lasted 10 minutes on the treadmill so you did better tha me. I did an hour of weights instead!

Dude- I love you and all but Jamoosh is right!!!!!

Seriously...I would take 32 right now and call it warm.

Do you have ANY idea how excited I am that you live in a warm climate?!?! When I saw 65 degrees for next week I totally did a happy dance. :)

I am a weather pansy, too. I will admit it - fair weather runner. I also hate the dreadmill but will take it over crappy weather anyday. It's rough - I've done a 20 miler on one before :(
And, I can't wait for pics - this should be good! Happy Thursday and Happy Birthday to the Brunette!

Lordy I am sure I didn't follow the directions...UGHO!!

I agree I am not a fan of the Dreadmill and feel bad for our bloggy buddies who cant see the pavement and are forced inside.

Ashley said...

okay so question...what is the dreadmill run?? i am dying to know (and maybe try it)! Now i am off to run in the snow :) good luck running during your lunch!

Ashley said...

haha okay so i just got that the dreadmill = treadmill! haha i'm a dork!

gene said...

our Dreadmill comes with an automatic eye-poker-outer device. don't even bother to try to duck.

Marlene said...

LOL @ lindsay pointing out all the direction-non-followers! How sweet are you choosing another winner anyway... too bad it wasn't me. ;)

Enjoy the nooner! When I ran at lunch on Tuesday it was 15F AND windy if it makes you feel better. :)

Oh, and Happy Birthday Brunette!

runnernic.com said...

I want to see pictures!! I stab myself every step of the way on the treadmill aka dreadmill

lindsay said...

GREAT call me out. haha. making enemies for me :)

now why didn't i win? this was rigged!

i just gotta suck it up on the treadmill. i'm a 'fraidy cat to run in the dark alone, especially when there's only like 1 mile that's possibly lit and the rest is bfe. i did run this morning in the dark though, on that 1 mile of lightedness back and forth and back and forth. verrry fun. it was 12*, if that makes you feel better.

hope your lunch run went well, rainbow brite.

I really only use it for interval runs when it's too dar outside...otherwise...I really prefer to be outdoors. The dreadmill makes me wanna swallow my tongue....twice..

How to run on a treadmill...let's see. We had 14 inches of snow yesterday. It was easier to run on a treadmill than battle that. So....

Hate the cold too sister. But due to my late night (12:30 AM! GASP!) I was forced to shelf my run this am. Can't wait to see you tomorrow!

Treadmillssuck.com Have a great nooner! 32 is spring time temps.

Bob said...

"Dreadmill," I like that. Those things are awful.

Tammy said...

OMG! I can't believe I won! Woot. Thanks Redhead!
And, Happy Birthday to the Brunette!

I own a dreadmill, but I can't remember the last time I resorted to running on it. Blech! Luckily, the snow is cleared off the roads here enough to run.

ChristieisaRunner said...

Congrats winners. Oops. I may have been one that didn't follow directions. I hate the treadmill as well and am screaming on the inside for this snow to go AWAY!! It's so unlike us to have as much as we've gotten. And in my first full winter as a runner. I've been dreadmilling it to keep from busting my @$$ on ice.

Lisa said...

I saw on the weather that you guys had wicked wind chills today! Good job getting in a run even though it's "cold!"

Happy Thursday!

dawn said...

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone and especially to my little redhead :)

I watch tv...helps a little. It also has forced me into crappy tv shoes. AKA The Bachelor.

trialsoftraining said...

UGH - the DREADMILL - I'm with ya. I barely last, but as of late I've had No choice. Our sidewalks, streets, and trails are almost entirely covered in this thick, icy/snowy mush. It's disgusting. I'm ready for spring!

Hope it warms up for your weekend run!

Jeri said...

I feel you on the treadmill hatred. I've ran outside TWICE in the past 2 months. Yes that means all the other runs have been rocked on the treadmill. The only way I get through it is knowing that I would die from hypothermia if I was outside. It works. :p

I'm excited for some of your future "explanation" posts. Hehe.

I totally feel your pain on the FREEZING cold weather! Im in Tampa and am running in a 10k on Saturday morning and I don't know what I am going to do! Its supposed to be 38 degrees- who knows what that is going to feel like .... Antarctica?

The dreadmill is a pretty dreadful, but ive sucked it up and have a love/hate relationship with it these days.. it takes time

Mel-2nd Chances said...

Sounds like I picked a good week to go to Orlando then! Haha! Not much fun about the treadmill, you're right :S

Rachael said...

So I put off a lot of things today: my run and reading all the thursday posts.

I just now returned from the gym where I attempted a 7 miler on the dreadmill. I made it 2.8 miles. Seriously?! How do they do it?!

Not only was I bored out of my freaking gab, I was hot! There is no gentle breeze from my own perpetual (sp?) motion ... nope. Just stale hot AIR. And I gave myself a sloppy tummy ache because I kept guzzling water thinking I was hot ... haha! Dreadmill FAIL STAMP for both of us.
