10 tell tale signs you're about to run a marathon...

10. You wake up every morning at 4 am without fail and can't fall back asleep. Conveniently this is also your wake up time race morning...

9. You stalk down the pace leader bio pages for you and your friends that are running to assess their running resume and capability to be your pace leader.

8. You start every morning chasing down Zinc, Vitamin's A-Z, a Multi-vitamin, etc.. with a cocktail of Airborne and wash your hands so many times throughout the day that they have official started cracking.

7. You check the weather forecast at breakfast, lunch, dinner and before bed. *Refresh*

6. You want to eat everything in sight. Feed the Hungry, Hungry Hippo already!

5. Taper twinges are plaguing your every movement... "I just stepped down funny on my foot, OMG I can't run my marathon!"

4. You've already printed down every possible route to the expo and race. From every possible direction. Just in case.

3. You can quote every page of the race website by heart, including but not limited to; general information, race info, expo hours, goodie bag items, spectator information, etc...

2. You've already packed all your race day gear... and after race bag... and just about done packing the race weekend bag as well... AND it's only Tuesday.

1. You start to question your goal time and start freaking out over whether or not it's realistic. "Maybe I should just run for fun?" "I have a better chance at a PR, maybe I should just settle for a PR?" "What if my timing chip explodes if I don't cross the finish line at 4 hours because I made a time goal?!?!?"

Looks like Taper Madness has officially begun... FML.

5 Days til Gasparilla!

I always dream about the race, mostly in the context of I get to the starting line and I'm barefoot or wearing flip-flops. Also see dreaming that I oversleep and miss the start.

Hang in there...only 5 more days!

Marlene said...

Haha, awesome list. Sooo true.....

Hang in there, chicky. Everything will fall into place this weekend.

You're going to do awesome! You've got this! I'm excited for you!

Shannon said...

PS - if the timing chip explodes - does that mean your foot also comes flying off? :)

Dion said...

Obsession goes with the territory. You are going to do great. Can't wait for the race recap.

Embrace the madness and you'll be fine! You'll bust down the 4:00 doors for sure!

BWHAHAHAHA so freaking true my red headed running sister. I freaked out this morning because I wore my "marathon socks" for my run--holy hell, what if they get lost in the dryer between now and Saturday??????? These are the big issues people. Seriously.

And I'm hyper obsessive about the weather. It's currently snowing. SNOWING. I don't marathon in the snow. Not cool Weather Gods, not cool.

But, we'll all rock our marathons this weekend, I just know it.

Spike said...

so how is that different than any other week? ;) just relax, you'll be amazing on race day.

RunningLaur said...

Amen! With all of these out of the way already (ha) you're going to have an amazing race!

LOL. Dude, I have like 7 of those.

One that I didn't have was that pacer website!! Totally going to look up a few pacers if I can find them on there.... :)

NY Wolve said...

I can totally identify with injury paranoia. I am always afraid I will turn an ankle or break a toe or have an anvil fall on me. But it has never happened, so I bet it doesn't for you either.

Good luck and remember to trust your training.

Therese said...

This should have been titled "10 tell tale signs that OCD Morgan is about to run a marathon."

Stop being obssessive you are going to rock this!

Amanda said...

You're gonna do great! and have fun while doing it! but...yes, taper sucks.

Lisa said...

Great list! I'm so excited for you!!

LMAO I kind agree with Spike!!! But this so is Morgan to a T!!!! Love you, you'll do great, I just know it!!!

LPT said...

So:
1) I am not running with a time goal (just a time HOPE, but nothing official)... and I'm still worried about running for fun vs. plowing through hardcore.
2) I hate taper. HATE IT.
3) I am drinking Emergen-C, taking vitamin B-12, a calcium supplement, and glucosamine. Every morning.
4) Two coworkers are sick and I have told them to not come near me. They thought I was joking until I slowly baaaacked away.
5) You're going to do great! I think we're running on the same day... Feb 28th?

PS - It's supposed to possibly snow/rain/sleet throughout race weekend for me. UGH NEW ENGLAND.

J said...

You are so ready for this marathon and will rock it! No worries girl we all get nervous about races! i am usually packed early too! I just dont like to forget stuff!

feetinmotion said...

HAHA love this!! Wasn't it featured in runner's world, or at least something similar? I thought I remembered it from somewhere!

Mel -Tall Mom on the Run said...

Oh I love you Morgan!! So honest and oh so true.. Hugs to the feeling of anticipation, excitement, utter fear and total ANXIETY. YOu are strong and you are ready, you WILL rock it out. Trust the Pace leader and let him/her do all the work, just relax and enjoy the race that you have worked so hard to get to.

Kelly said...

Very cute list, though I can't say if it's accurate or not since I've never run even close to a marathon haha.

I wash my hands til they crack all winter, I blame kindergarten kids!

You're gonna rock it and you're so gonna get that PR!

Christy said...

This cracks me up! SO TRUE!

I totally agree with you on #8. Except that all those Airbrone cocktails and handwashes didn't make a damn difference. I still got sick! FML!

Good luck this weekend!!!!

Amanda - RunToTheFinish said...

Morgan said...

Yes I wrote this list in my head this morning when I woke up, yet again, at 4am. Every single item is what I've have been doing or have done in the last week. It needs to be Sunday already!!! :)

Jamoosh said...

Rookie! Only #5 applies to me. Although admittedly I have decided on three different shirts depending on what the forecast is.

Kate said...

HAHA, I thought I was the only one! Although, I agree about the dream that Sun Runner mentioned, only sometimes I have the added bonus of not being able to find the starting line, which coincidentally almost happened to me before my very first marathon. Good luck at Gasparilla!

Good luck the next few days and at your marathon! So exciting! Can't wait to read all about it.

L.B. said...

That's a great list. I would say to try and relax bit but I'm not even going to bother. Just try and minimize the mental damage.

And I'm praying to the running gods for good weather.

Exploding time chips! That would be awesome! I'm laughing so hard right now at all of those, but the exploding time chip image in my head is the best!

My e-mail is runningeb@gmail.com

I've got a couple of races to keep me busy this spring. I just really wanted to build off the energy of finally having a good full! I'm sure things will settle down enough in time for a fall race.
