When Zombie's Attack or Meet me Halfway

While most of you are finalizing your New Year's Eve plans, picking out the perfect little black dress to wear and searching the city over for some bubbly I am getting an oil change, checking the pressure on my tires and deciding between the audio book's Jamily got me for Christmas in preparation for my impending 9 hour drive on New Year's Eve....

So what does driving 9 hours and zombie's have to do with New Year's Eve you ask? Well see back in October while visiting Spike we went and saw Zombieland. (Arguably the best zombie movie EVER) One evening after my return, for whatever reason, we got into a heavy discussion about what we would do if zombie's attacked. (Lots of couple's discuss zombie survival plans right?!?!) Ever the resourceful Redhead I suggested we meet halfway, you know, since I-75 runs directly between us...

Spike: "So where exactly do you propose halfway is?"

Redhead: "Like Kentucky or Tennessee"

Spike: "Um... those are pretty big states, how would we find each other?"

Redhead: "No they aren't. They're short states. We could just call each other."

Spike: *Crickets*

Now before you go questioning the color of my hair, I never claimed I was the brightest crayon in the box... it seemed logical enough at the time and we both had quite the laugh over it. Afterwards this conversation stuck in my head and it sparked an idea... We should meet halfway for an impromptu weekend!!!

So thus an idea is born and Thursday morning, long before the @ss crack of dawn we both embark on our respective 9-ish hour drives to meet halfway-ish in Chattanooga, TN. Not a single plan has been made further than what hotel we're staying at and the trail to use for our long run. (Priorities! I'm in the midst of marathon training people!) The entire weekend is going to be a total random adventure and who knows what we'll end up doing for N.Y.E. or the rest of the weekend for that matter. If anyone has any suggestions let us know! Otherwise expect quite the recap upon my return... This southern girl is headed up to the hills of Tennessee! Good thing I picked up some running pants recently! Forecast is calling for sunny but 30-40 degrees all weekend! Brr!!!

Listening to: Black Eyed Peas - "Meet me Halfway"

What are ya'll doing for N.Y.E.???

OMG I LOOOOOOOOOVE that pippi graphic. I have it saved on my computer and want to purchase it to hang up as art. I have a bit of a pippi obsession you could say.

Yay for meeting in the middle. And yay for having a handsome gent to kiss at midnight. I'm replying to your email....slowly. It's not a short story, so be warned. :D

Yay for the love story! HA! I love it - I can't wait to hear all about ya'lls little adventure!

This is so great! When MSU played in the Citrus Bowl a few years back (many, actually, by now) we spent the night in Chatanooga since it was a good spot between Orlando and E.L.
Have a great time!! Can't wait to hear about all the randomness to be had!

Isn't that in the "1001 Questions to Ask Before Getting Married" book? Alien/Zombie/Texan Chainsaw Survival Plans...yeah, I think it's an entire chapter!

Sounds like you will have a great time! As a married mom of 3, I live vicariously through you! Thanks for having so much fun!

Have fun! You and I have similar plans (or lack thereof), except my drive is only 6 hours :)

Probably playing the Wii and drinking beer with the wife, after the little one goes to bed of course.

BTW I grew up in Chattanooga. It was OK. I'm sure it's much nicer now than back in 1983 when I left it.

I LOVE that song! DRIVE SAFE girly!! I'm heading to Sacramento for a night of drinks, steak and craziness at Morton's. Then getting up the next day and heading to Tahoe for 3 days of snowboarding (pending the head injury is better).
Look for a nice restaurant and ring in the New Year with some nice bubbly - and enjoy the run, will want some pics ;)

awesome!!! I LOVE your idea, it's so something I would do... and for the record, my SIS and I discuss Zombie survival ALL THE TIME. No really. ALL THE TIME. Makes my Husband CRA-ZY.

ALso, I don't know if I came back by after the fact, but I "took you on my marathon" in November. No really, I read your blog about Chicago and just decided I was going to have an awesome experience "like that", and I totally did. Thanks so much for sharing your awesome experience.

I agree that Zombieland is arguably the best zombie movie of all time. :) We discuss Zombie uprisings around my house as well.
My bf bought a book for my roomie last year called How to Survive a Zombie Uprising. You should check it out.
Have fun on your adventure! I will be ringing in the new year with my bf and two other couples. Apparently we are hosting a rather impromptu dinner party. Should be a fun night.

have a great/safe trip!!! and yes, get those running pants and maybe even a Long Sleeve shirt ;)

I hope you have fun! Now I need to get my butt up and go running. I don't want any zombies to attack me. Lol.

Man you are dedicated! I sure do admire that!

So Tennessee is halfway between Michigan and Florida? Interesting...I can't wait to hear what you find in Tennessee...

Have fun on NYE! I'll be running a 4-mile fun run with champagne for waterstops and fireworks in Central Park! After the race, I will have logged 2009 miles for 2009! Wahoo! Okay, too much info...should save this for my blog...but you go run your little heart out in Tennessee and enjoy yourself (Just head the other way though if you run into any zombies, or at least let Spike take the lead...haha)

Happy New Year!

Yowza, that's a long drive, but, it will be worth it! Drive safe and have a wonderful time.

I love that you're only set plans are the run--yes, yes, priorities--I know how that is.

Our NYE will be pretty boring--we're tight on funds this year, so, I doubt we'll be doing anything exciting, but, that's OK by me. I'm tired. I want to sleep :)

lindsay said...

um impromptu = no planning. this, not so impromptu. half impromptu, maybe. let's be real, you won't need to do much other than hang out in the hotel and run.... :)

be safe driving. personally i hate i-75 but i have spent half of this year on that stupid road :) thank god you don't have to meet in kentucky ;)

My bestie who left me for Spokane Washington 4 months ago is coming to town for a few days and we're planning on getting rip roaring drunk ... well she is. I don't really get rip roaring drunk, in fact, I've been known to nurse a drink for 6 hours.
So I'll be thinking of you all NYE day, driving your redheaded little ass to TN while I nosh on sushi and delicately sip an apple martini. Give me props, I hardly ever do stuff like that anymore. I'm more likely to be driving 9 hours for some reason or another like you are this year :)

TallGuySurfing said...

Just make sure you don't wear an Orange and Blue Gators jacket while playing laser tag with a bunch of drunk redneck Tenn. Vol fans!

I'll be driving only 2-hours up the road to Gainesville, but like you only armed with where I'm staying and what the "run" will be for the weekend. :-) Have fun and happy trails for 2010!

Sounds like a fun time- I love impromptu road trips.

I am hanging at a friends house with a few other friends...real low key. He lives on the water where they do a huge fireworks show, so hopefully the rain/snow storm holds off and we get to see it from his backyard.

OMG - I can so help you with this!! My sister lives in TN and just went to Chatt this past weekend. Want me to have her stop by with some romantic ideas? Or would you rather athletic ideas? Or stay-warm ideas? Or...? I'm an old married lady, so I am no help :P

Yasi said...

That sounds so exciting! I love the spontaneity of it all. OF COURSE you have to get a good run in on some unknown territory! I would do the same. I have no doubt that you'll have a wonderful NYE while exploring TN. Have fun!

Trail shoes will hopefully be bought tomorrow or Thursday, coupon searching is ensuing now!

Zombies! My plan is to swim to Brooklyn then, find a boat to sail south to the Caribbean. Zombies hate the beach and are allergic to margaritas.

Im also running the NYE Central Park 4 mile run. I have to be ready for the Disney Marathon in 10 days! yikes.

Hubs and I are going to Dallas for a killer NYE party at some mansion type of black, where we have to dress up and wear masquerade masks, I am OH SO EXCITED! Normally my NYE is spent in PJ's watching TV. Waah-waah. not this year :D

Happy new year darling!

I LOVE LOVE this idea. You will have such a good time. Sometimes the unplanned ends up to be WAY better than the planned.. Hugs to that..

And I have never once questioned the color of your hair.. LOL!!

OMG, what a drive! It must be love.....ahhhh. I hope you and Spike have a wonderful New Year's Eve together in Tennesee.

Totally understand the running priority thing. I never go anywhere without my running gear, whether I'm training for a race or not.

We don't have anything planned. We're going to make some pasta, bread, and salad, drink some wine and curl up in front of the fire place.

Have fun Morgan and drive safe girl!

Have fun in TN. We lived there for 5 months - I'm pretty sure that a weekend trip would be a sufficient amount of time there!

Kelly said...

That sounds totally awesome! Have a great nine hour drive and weekend!

Alicia said...

Awwww! I remember that "can't-wait-another-minute-gotta-see-him-now" feeling from early on in mine and the hubster's "courting." I never drove 9 hours to see him but that just goes to show how much you like him! Again- AWWWW!!! Love it!

Jill said...

No one is expected to think logically while in marathon training, please! I think it's lack of sugar or something! I used to live in the bible-belt of America, ALABAMA, and would go to Chattanooga just to "do" something. The aquarium is pretty cool if you got a spare couple hours. I think there's some outlet mall there...but it's been awhile since I was there! Have a blast of a weekend, how seriously fun is that going to be! Can't wait to hear about it and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Rookie on the Run said...

I'm so glad you decided to NOT wait until Zombies attack before meeting halfway! That would probably put a damper on your time together.

Enjoy and drive safely!
