3 Things Thursday

  1. First things first; Stop everything you're doing and PLEASE log onto Facebook and become a fan of Chase Giving and vote for Operation Jack. (Go ahead, I'll still be here when you get back.) Basically your vote could help land Operation Jack a hefty donation from Chase Bank. No purchase necessary. No obligations. Just a click of the mouse! Operation Jack needs your help and ya'll can break away from your FB stalking for a few seconds to help a worthy cause! Support a runner/father of an autistic child who's running 60 marathons in 2010 to raise awareness for Autism, a disorder that affects 3-6 children out of every 1,000. If you want to help further, you could also post this on your blog too! Spread the word!

  2. The OUC 5k is Saturday; I haven't run a 5k since February and I unknowingly placed 2nd in my division at this race last year. I would love, LUV, L-O-V-E to PR or at least course PR. I'm hoping spectator support & pacer taunting help me dig dip! Wake up speedy legs!!!

  3. Guess who's getting a Garmin today?!?!?!? ME!!! Yup that's right folks, Redhead Running is finally going to join the 21st century and become a pace junkie like the rest of ya'll! But the real question is; how do I ceremoniously destroy my Nike+ for all the times it FAIL'd me??? *Insert Evil Laugh Here* >:)

Let's just hope I can figure out how to work the fancy-schmancy thing! Thankfully the giver of said Garmin is a Garmin Guru of sorts... speaking of...

I have been counting down the weeks & days to today for almost two months now and in a few short hours all my patience will be rewarded when a flight lands over at MCO... *le sigh*

Have a great weekend ya'll! Rock those races & runs! You def won't be hearing from me til at least Sunday, after which I'll post the Race Report & Weekend Recap! Catch ya'll on the flipside!

Watch out for those Garmin Gurus. They're very crafty. ;)

If you encounter problems down the road, don't hesitate to call your guru at 5:30 AM for advice.

about the Garmin, unless you get an XT version, don't use it while swimming, and probably not in those 3pm FL thunderstoms either. I had mine for 2 years and loved it, then wore it during a tri and from then on it just wasn't the same. Also, it's a great training tool, but don't use it at a goal race. If it doesn't show you what you want to see it will play tricks with your mind. I can't tell you how many people I've talked to that said I was having a great race until I looked at my Garmin and my HR was too high or it showed their pace as too fast so they slowed down. I've been Garmin free for 3 months now and have 3 new PRs in that time. It's a great training aide, but make sure you don't grow to rely on it too much. Happy running and have a great race

gave you a nice little shout out today!

I love my Garmie...I can wear it in the rain, not sure about a crazy long downpour but it should be ok with the way I sweat

YAY!!! Operation Jack supporters (and reheads) are awesome!

So excited you got a Garmin--in my humble opnion, they're pretty life changing :) And, pretty easy to use, so, you should have it set up in no time.

Good luck on your 5k! You'll do awesome--I know it. Would you believe I have never, ever run a 5k?

Yay for the garmin!!!

A Garmin is awesome and frustrating all at once. It is a tremendous tool, and when it does not work perfectly, it can be incredibly frustrating. I would also recommend the heart rate monitor also.

Oh, and get SportTracks (google it if interested) or another software logging program. It is free, and the Garmin software is not so good.

Sam said...

Thanks for the shout-out. Glad I've already voted so I can keep on stalking.

Sweet on the Garmin. I can't believe I ever ran without one. Do yourself a favor and get one with a heart-rate monitor. If you pay attention to the data, you'll improve pretty quickly. I can help you with that if you want.

Bow chica, bow wow! That door hanger is great! So, I guess it is safe to assume the person behind the door is the garmin giver? (and hopefully more ;) yeah, I'm a 15 year old boy at heart).
Love, love, love my garmie! Have a great race Saturday! You're gonna rock it!! :)

The Garmin is life changing! Even for a slow, newbie runner like me. You will love it.

You don't have a Garmin yet? Woman! You've been missing out! :)

Actually, you will love it and hate it at the same time. Sometimes I feel like I am a prisoner of the damn thing. I wish I could run free every now and then!

Hey Morgan,
Since you have gotten the Garmin, let me recommend you go over to here:
http://www.zonefivesoftware.com/SportTracks/
and get some cool freesoftware that is easy to use and will really have you hooked on the Garmin for life. I think it is the best of the software that goes with the GPS toys.

I'm jealous of the Garmin. I have yet to get one. There were a few FACEBOOK groups with that name and i was confused about which to join.
