- Oikos Organic Greek Yogurt has a whopping 15 grams of protein per 5.3 oz. serving, (we all need more protein) which is a great snack to fuel your training schedule. Oikos Greek yogurt is also unique because it’s organic -it's made from organic milk produced without the use of toxic persistent pesticides, chemical fertilizers, antibiotics, or artificial growth hormones (rBST). They feel that organic is not only better for you, but better for the planet as well.
The Brunette and I cracked open a tub and dug in... it was very rich and weird tasting to me, having never tried greek yogurt before I wasn't ready for the difference in taste in comparisson to my lowly regular yogurt. After a few spoonfuls I decided it definitely wasn't my cup of tea but The Brunette LOVED it and our fridge has been stoked full of it ever since! - LUNA Sport Moons offer three great-tasting flavors that come in moon-shaped, bite-size pieces that have a soft, but not too chewy, “bite.” LUNA Sport Moons come apart in your mouth quickly so they can be swallowed easily—a real asset when you’re on the move. Lastly, one packet of Moons chews provides 100 calories, so it’s simple to keep track of calorie intake during long outings.
Mineral salts such as sodium chloride, potassium, magnesium are known collectively as electrolytes. These electrolytes allow electrical impulses to travel properly throughout your body, allowing for normal bodily function. When you sweat you start to deplete yourself of these electrolytes. Similar to dehydration, electrolyte depletion will first lead to performance declines and then onto more serious health issues. Each Moon provides sodium and potassium to help counteract the losses in your sweat.
I have used these in place of my beloved Cliff Shot Bloks a few times now and I am in L-O-V-E with them, first off, they are quite tasty and second off I can store the package a bit easier than I can the Shot Bloks. I feel like they break down easier than the Shot Bloks and I love anything I get to eat more of. At 100 calories per package, I get to enjoy 6 yummy moons guilt free! Yay!
So while it was a 50/50 success between the two, I highly suggest trying both products for yourself!

Wow so this post might be the most boring post I have ever written... *snore* sorry guys!
How about this... last night I popped into my DVD player the Chicago Marathon Finish DVD that Tom over at Runner's Lounge so awesomely sent me and proceeded to become an blubbering mess. In less than 3 short weeks that is going to be ME! I am going to be running that same marathon, going through that same finish line and all this hard work and dedication are finally going to come to an end. Less than 3 weeks people! 18 days to be exact! I'm going to run a friggin marathon. 26.2! My poor family... they are so going to have an emotional wreck on their hands after that finish... and my poor Brunette... who came home to me curled up in a ball crying on the couch watching that DVD. I am such a friggin' girl...

I must try these moons. I like the word moon. Say it with me. Moon. (kind of how i like the word hobo.)
You are such a girl. And I love it! 26.2 here you come!!!!!
I use low fat vanilla greek yogurt in my protein shakes and I like it a lot. I've never tried the regular kind, but the vanilla tastes really good in the smoothies and the extra protein over regular yogurt is nice.
I felt the same way publishing a post packed full of reviews this morning... I worry that it'll be boring, but ya gotta get it out there.
For the record, I did NOT find your post boring. :)
I haven't tried Luna Moons. I actually prefer more calories in less chews, which is why I like Bloks. In normal everyday life, it's the other way around of course... but I hate chewing while running, so I'm much happier getting ~100cal from 3 chews. JMO. :)
Have a great day!
I cry everytime I watch my Chicago DVD. Is it because it was the accomplishment of a BQ? No.
Is it because I finished a marathon? No.
It's because I finished the race holding hands with Navy Steve and Coach Tom (not that there's anything wrong with that).......
(It was a symbol of unity Three Muskateers style folks. Get your minds out of the gutter.)
Thanks for the product reviews too.
I will take any Greek yogurt off your hands that you are looking to get rid of ;)
Oh, I'm glad someone else feels the same way about Greek yogurt!
I LOVE greek yogurt, but only if I have real fruit or granola to mix in it!
I have to agree with onelittletrigirl. Greek yogurt is only good with granola and fresh fruit (and a little drizzle of honey). To eat it by it's own is disgusting!
The moons are amazing. I'm always afraid of biting the sides of my mouth or something when I chew those huge shot bloks. The moons are much easier to chew and just as tasty. I also like the jelly beans for a little different texture.
Try watching spirit of the marathon, that made me cry. And I was only doing a half. It'll be awesome crossing that finish line! Can't wait to hear all about it.
Just found your blog. Good luck on your marathon! Also, I love Oikos Greek Yogurt in honey flavor. I would eat it everyday if I was smart enough to stock my fridge with it! Yum :)
i used to love luna moons :) now i just cant chew and run. i also love oikos yogurt!!!! yum
I must try these moons before my next race. A "L-O-V-E" rating is all I need. ;o)
I love luna moons too but I can't chew and run either. It's mostly me choking them down. ha ha.
Also, I need to try this greek yogurt, I think I would enjoy it. :)
Mmmmm...I love Oikos greek yogurt. I mix it with natural peanut butter to make a nice little peanut butter mousse! Yum. Haven't tried those moons yet...must get some.
Yay! Marathon week! What the hell are we all going to do during the winter?
I Love Gu CHomps...those are my favorite and work really well on the run. I have tried Moons but they tasted funny to me.
I watch Spirit of the Marathon before my races for inspiration.
Okay girl, I am finally using Shot Bloks based off of your suggestions ( hate the margarita, something about running and drinking??, just a weird flavor!) I Like the black cherry but still find it hard to get 3 of them down! Are the moons easier to get down??
Never tried Greek Yougurt either but it seems all the rage on the foodie blogs!! Ill have to try it!!
i'll have to give the moons a shot, as long as they don't have any of my famous allergy foods in them. i use gu chomps sometimes (love them) but if you say they're good, i can give them a shot.
yogurt... gonna have to stick with my sugary, tasty yoplait/dannon. i dunno. greek yogurt just sounds flavorless to me.
yes greek yogurt is definitely different, I wasn't expecting that either! I enjoy it now occassionally...but not all the time
Mel suggested I stop by. I am running Chicago as well. Good luck and hope for good weather :)
I am loving some Greek yogurt but my husband doesn't care for it. He says it reminds him of sour cream. To each is own. I want to try those Luna moons. They sound great!
I've been wanting to try the Oikos greek yogurt so bad, but the small single-serve container is $2 at my grocery store. Am I too cheap? Seems like a lot for a snack.
Greek yogurt is thicker and different tasting than the regular, but I LOVE it.
I grew up on plain yogurt and I'm in a major greek yogurt kick right now! I'll have to try those moons, maybe they won't give me scars like gus do! Thanks for the advice too! :o)
I love both of those products! Especially the Oikos :)
So I read your post earlier today and when grocery shopping I saw the oikos greek yogurt, so I figured I'd give it the ole taste test but I went with vanilla thinking I'd have better results. Well the results are in and I am thinking that if someone told me they didn't know sugar exists in greece, I would probably belive them becuase it is terribly bitter. I'm sure it's alright doctored up with some fruit like everyone says but sometimes I just want some plain vanilla yogurt. So I think I'll stick to my yoplait :-) thanks for the reviews!
18 days!!! this countdown is getting awfully close. oh, and in Chicago you will be a rockstar (they are always emotional messes, hazard of the job).
Girl, you crack me up! I'd be blubbering, too if I knew I had 26.2 to cover in less than THREE wks... ouch! Eventually.... But for you - NOW! I'm so excited for you!! (And looking forward to seeing your marathon shuffle this weekend!)
Re: the greek yogurt - since I'm a bit of a foodie, I've read about it, but it's got too much sugar for my diabetic body, so no go, even if it is organic. Have read it's something to get used to...
Re: Luna Moons. Love these! Picked up the watermelon ones at Track Shack recently, after looking through all the different products. Moons are low in sugar, so they're decent for diabetic runners, and you're right - they just kind of melt in your mouth. I call them my 'gummy bears.' The little bag is really sharp, though, so I put them in saran wrap & tuck them in w/ the girls. :)
17 days and counting.... See you Sunday?? Coasters and 'canes Saturday, so I should be in rare form by Sun morning!
r. (mom)
hmmm, if you handed those moons out to folks during a race...you'd be mooning people
LOL
I love Oikos and other Greek yogurt, and often eat as recovery after a run. I haven;t had Luna Moons..but I am no fan of Shot Blocks. Too gummy for me. If you get a chance check out the PowerGel Blocks (made by the PowerBar people). I really like those.
Thank you Thank you! So true the grass is always greener.. I think I need to just sign up for a 1/2 Marathon ir a few more races...any distance. I am probably just bummed because I have no races on my schedule.
Hugs and THANKS!
I actually just bought some luna moons, looking forward to try them even more now :)
