Assessing the Situation...

Enough of this wallowing around in self pity, time to suck it up and get back on track, 4 weeks til go time and that leaves zero time for this Negative Nancy bullsh*t. I'm not the only one who had a crap weekend, in fact between Lindsay and NY Wolve I don't know who had it worse... I mean, collectively we didn't even reach a 20 miler! Ugh. I've had ample time to reflect on The 20 Miler that wasn't and assess exactly what went wrong, how I could have prevented it and what I need to do to be back on the road ASAP.

  • I mentioned having a great week of running prior to this weekend... it was so great in fact that on Thursday's Tempo Run of 8 miles I laced it chuck full of Fartlek's otherwise known as speed work. Well if you remember, I divorced speed work last month thinking the track was the culprit for all my knee pain... well surprise, surprise speed work in general must not work for me. So despite feeling great at the time, this was the last work out I did prior to my long run attempt as Friday was my rest day. Culprit identified. Speedwork is officially struck from training schedule indefinitely.

  • The pain I am experiencing is total deja vu so thankfully I have the knowledge and tools to treat this. I have been stretching, foam rolling, icing and popping anti-inflammatories like a motha... R.I.C.E, R.I.C.E Baby...
  • My next scheduled run isn't til Wednesday, an easy 6 miler, so I will be resting and continuing the regimen above with maybe some xtraining if I'm feeling up to it.
  • FYI - Consuming an entire bag of granola does not fill the void of a 20 miler... just saying.
  • I still have 2 more long runs before taper so the goal is to focus on getting back on track and rocking those. Can I do it? You bet your @ss I can! Nothing is going to stop this redhead from crossing that finish line in Chicago!!! "Let's go Morgan, let's GO!"
  • I am the epitome of a fiesty redhead this morning, I am chuck full of spunk so if you need a friendly smack on the @ss to get you moving hit me up! I'm so fired up in fact, that I might even post twice today... wait for it...

Great job of getting your game face on!!! :)

Btw, how do you like your Asics GT2140's? I'm having to upgrade since I can't find my 2130's anywhere...

Good luck with the rest of your training. The two long runs will help your confidence and the taper will get you rested for race day.

    YES! That's the spirit!

Okay, so granola didn't do the trick... a bag or Oreos might have been better. hehe

Love the spunk! Send some my way, baby. I have a bad case of the Monday BLAHS.

You're definitely fiesty if nothing else. Sorry about your knee issues, but I think twenty in the rain isn't for the feign of heart. Think postive thoughts Morgan. It'll get done! Wishing a speedy recovery for ya!

and remember to use your wood frequently. It will help stretch you out.

I am sure some rest will help that knee? Where does it hurt? Do you know why it hurts? Knee pain has to be the worst, second only to maybe hip flexor pain. Good luck with everything.

Hey you...I am happy to hear the passion! I love it! I think your treatment is going well to fix it when it comes on...what do you we do to your body to make sure it doesnt come back? STRENGTH! Did your PT not give you any strengthening?

I'm so pumped for you and your new feisty outlook! These next four weeks will definitely rock for your training. Unfortunately, it looks like Negative Nancy not only moved in with me but is taking up over half of the closet space. Not cool! (Needless to say, I could stand a friendly smack on the @ss.)

I am just catching up as I have not visited bloggy world since Friday and I haven't even posted since them! Fighting a migraine today but should post later this evening! Hope you get to feeling better and great to see the spunky redhead is back today!!

Stupid ITBs! At least you're able to pinpoint that it's speedwork that does you in. Good luck with your runs this week!!

You are going to OWN that marathon with that attitude! Way to come back strong!

I think I posted a comment a week ago or something about a restaurant that you had to eat your pre marathon meal at according to some magazine ... I think I gave you the wrong magazine to look at. Pick up the Food Network Magazine for October, turn to the back or so and read about the marathon dining. The feature the Chicago marathon and this awesome grilled veggie dish at some restaurant right near the finish line.

YOU CAN DO THIS!!! one missed run isnt going to make or break the marathon... but pushing yourself into injury could. you definitely did the right thing this weekend by calling it quits, not get that ITB back in line so you can go rock chicago!!! glad to see you are feeling better and know what to do :)

thanks for the tag, even though we did both pretty much suck this past weekend. obviously i just need to pump more jay-z through the hotel!

glad you aren't being too down about it - you've really put in a ton of work and missing this one run won't matter. hope your itb is feeling better and ready for a kickass run tomorrow!

i hate how i always seem to pig out on days i skip my run/long run... yeah that's real productive.
