Another 16 Miler Adventure and then some...

Hola kiddies! Hope everyone is enjoying their long weekends! I know I have been!!! Can we say chillaxing poolside much?!??! I'm the proud owner of at least 10,000 new freckles and I'm convinced I'm at least a darker shade of pale! YESSSSSSSSSS!!!! But let's get down to business shall we?

First up we have Friday night aka Lame Night for this Lil Redhead... or at least it usually is but then I got sweet talked into going out. I honestly can't even tell you the last time I did anything other than go home and veg out on a Friday night... since maybe May? But I'm not complaining, I had a wonderful time, the company was excellent (and thoughtful enough to bring me some G2 to drink "on the rocks" score 10 brownie points) and before I knew it, it was already 9:30PM!!! I was liable to turn in to a pumpkin staying out that late the night before a long run! *Gasp!*

I skipped my usual Epsom salt bath upon arriving home and went straight to bed... but sleep alluded me the entire night. I hate when you can't shut off the brain... there were just so many thoughts swirling through my mind that before I knew it, it was 4 AM and time to get up and at 'em. Oh well at least I got to "sleep in" and get a little extra rest. I went through the morning routine and then headed over to Cady Way. Lazy Runner has been laid up all week with IT Band issues so I had arranged to run with a guy that is training for Iron Man thats a regular at the night job. I was apprehensive about running with someone new but I figured running with someone was better than no one ya know? We had confirmed the time & place Friday night but come 4:45 am he was nowhere to be seen. Not amused.

I held off til just before 5am before I shot a text to The Brunette letting her know I was running solo and then I set off... alone, in the dark, on a poorly lit trail. We all know how scared of the dark I am right? Well let me just tell you how I learned that being scared can cause you to run REALLY FAST! As in 4 miles in 25 minutes fast! LOL! I have never hauled so much @ss in my life! Mind you there were even two points where I ran off the trail and through the adjoining neighborhood to avoid some sketchy characters!!! Upon reaching the 4 mile mark (a park) I noted that there were a large congregation of runners. After I used the restroom I realized I had two options; 1) Continue running alone and scared til it got light out or 2) see if these runners would mind if I jumped in on their run. I opted for #2.

After chatting up a few of the runners I found out they were part of Track Shack's Marathonfest training program! They insisted I join them and after asking around I found the 9 min mile runners who were heading out for a 10 miler. Score! After holding off til 6am (the different pace groups went out at different times... kinda sucked to run 4 miles and then stand around for 40 minutes but it was better than running alone) we headed out and somehow ran almost the exact route LR and I had done back on our first 16 miler. I ended up making friends with Elsa, a Spin Instructor and one time marathoner, who waited on me to pop a squat outside of a locked up restroom and didn't judge me for it! LOL! We ended up getting split up from the rest of the group because of my pit stop but she knew the route so we chugged on, swapping running stories and such. Time flew by and before I knew it we were back at Cady Way, saying goodbye after swapping numbers as I headed off to finish out the last 2 miles. I could have just pushed my run into an 18 miler and not walked it in to my car... but I didn't feel like running anymore so I didn't. It was hot and much later than when I normally run and I reserve the right to not be ambitious, unlike some people who shall remain nameless.

After I got to the car I hit up Einstein's for my fav Lox Bagel breakfast and then headed home... without taking an ice bath. For those of you paying attention I have now skipped my regularly scheduled Epsom bath the night before the run and my ice bath after the run. Why does this matter you ask???

Well this morning, since Deputy S had canned our recovery run so he could indulge in weekend festivities, I decided to hit up The Brunette to see if she wanted to join me on my run. By join I mean, ride the bike along side me. She was in so we set out for an easy 4-5 miler depending on how the legs were feeling. (I will refrain from calling them the girls anymore since those of you that still have "girls" i.e. boobs, thought that's what I meant in the past) Well first off the bike's tires are low, no worries we can just go to the closest gas station and fill them... but then I try to run and I am sooo stiff I'm rocking a full on marathon shuffle. See what happens when you skip vital steps of your routine?!?! The Brunette is dying laughing at me! We shuffle on over to the nearest gas station... no air. We shuffle across the street to the next gas station... no air. Irritated, hot, sweaty we head to the next gas station which just so happens to be about 10 blocks down and all the while I'm STILL shuffling like a 90 year old woman. FML.

We finally get the d@mn tires filled and The Brunette is happily pedaling along as I beg and plead my granny legs to get going. About a half a mile or so later they finally loosened up and we were in business. I sent The Brunette around a lake to enjoy the scenery of the beautiful morning as I trudged on, we called it a run at 4 miles and although they were finally loosened up I can safely say my legs made their point loud and clear... don't skip the important details if you don't want to look like a ridiculous shuffle runner going down Orange Ave!!! I'm sure I gave more than a few passer by's a good laugh this morning... thank goodness I wore a hat for once, hopefully no one recognized me!

After the run we headed over to Beaker Luv's for a pool party & BBQ!!! Great times with great friends! *Sigh* Oh the memories... just last summer I spent every Saturday floating in the pool with the girls, drinking way too many brewskies soaking up the sun... but times have changed... Beaker Luv became a mommy, I became a runner and the pool got neglected. The pool gods must have been happy we had reunited because we had excellent weather and a great time was had by all!!!

That's it for me, another day of poolside chillaxing in store for tomorrow. I hope ya'll are living it up and had great long runs, races, etc... catch ya on the flip side of Labor Day!

5 MORE WEEKS TIL CHICAGO!!!

I skipped my 18-miler this weekend all together! We're running next weekend instead, I'm planning on doing 6-7 on my own tomorrow, you know, just for kicks. Hope you're having a nice long weekend, my little red-headed running friend!

That's awesome that you found a group to run with. That always makes the miles go by so much faster. Lol at your marathon shuffle :)

man I have had a couple sleepless nights lately (some big news coming on the blog) and seriously they are very annoying! Especially if you have already done your long run and dont' really know what else to do at that hour!

Holy Smokes! Alone at 5:00 AM on Cady Way. Yikes. Years (like 9 or so) ago I met up with a group in WP early in the morning and we ran toward the mall. I was slower than the fast group and faster than the slow group so I was all alone and so freaked out.

No wonder you were so fast!

Nice job on your run!

Serendipity on the group run. Looks like you are ready for trail running after all...since you are immune to a locked up toilet.

You are a rock star. I don't know how you run at dark-thirty alone. I get a bit freaked out running alone in the daylight!

Ditto Melissa H. I'm afraid of the dark. I also think I'm afraid of 16 miles.

4 miles in 25 minutes? Holy Coconuts! You're getting fast... you just need the boogy man behind you! LOL. Good thinking on the group runners. Way to play it safe!

4 miles in 25 minutes is fast! Now, if you maintain that pace for a marathon, hmmm...

You're so lucky the weather was great for your poolside weekend. It was cool and CRAZY windy here. No sun tan for me. :( Great job on your long run though! I here ya about skipping the ice bath. I skipped it 3 weeks ago, and could FEEL IT for the next few days

Man, that is F.A.S.T.! Count me in the jealous category for sure!

And thanks for the reality check on my last post. It's true, I should totally track my other activities. I promise to try, but the way things are going it's just difficult to explain what I am up to since I sneak in a set of sit ups here, then a set of push ups some other time, etc... Perhaps I should get back on some sort of plan.

Anyway, thanks for the encouragement!

OMG! You weren't kidding about the EARLY runs (no pun intended)... dear god! I will NOT look at 4:55 am the same way again.

On another note - running by yourself in-the-dark. As a fellow O-towner, that is soooooo not cool! (I'm nearly twice your age so I can get away w/ that tone.) Insane!! Okay, and dedicated....

Glad to see Negative Nancy went back into hiding (was catching up on post reading). You are an accomplished runner - quit your bitching! :) (she says w/ a smile) And, after reading your recent posts, there is no way in he** we'd be running together. A turtle and a gazelle?? HA! Shopping at Track Shack, maybe ...

As for location, check out the new pic at the top of my blog - it's my backyard, literally. :) Mystery solved.

BTW - between the Track Shack and Y runners, there are always plenty of people on the streets very early. Find a group - skip that dangerous crap.

Hugs to you, Speed Racer!

R.

P.S. Thnx for staying on ditch patrol! (that's w/ a "d") lol
