When I go to bed early,
and wake earlier still,
I wonder why I Run.
When my heart isn’t in it
and it all seems like a waste of time,
I wonder why I Run.
When each mile is torture,
and the end is nowhere in sight,
I wonder why I Run.
When the exhaustion takes over,
I’m breathless and want to give up,
I wonder why I Run.
When the tears mix with sweat,
as I push through the pain,
I wonder why I Run.
When my pride is wounded,
from coming up short,
I wonder why I Run.
When I catch a perfect sunrise,
While I have the city to myself,
When I run a PR,
When my pace is dead on,
When the pain is forgotten,
And with a smile on my face,
I finish strong…
This is why I Run.

I love it!
When I sit down
Crack the top
Take a refreshing pull
And know I have earned that beer
That is why I run!
Because you can!
It's not normal to be able to enjoy a 26.2-mile scenic foot tour ... you're blessed to be able to get out there and do what you're doing and to enjoy the health benefits that come along with it.
nicely worded... :-)
Awesome! Great picture too.
Love <3
Gave me chills. Great poem. May I call you "Wordsworth" from now on?

You wrote this? Wow you are multi talented! **Hugs** Hope you have a great day :o) Stay positive!
Love it. It's going up on my fridge. And cube. And pretty much anywhere I have to be pre-run. hehe.
i <3 you...love the poem :) have a great day!
Very cool Morgan :)
FYI I run so I can eat Ice Cream...
LOVE it!
Awesome! I woke up this morning at 5am today for a 9 mile run and went through all that you described. It's a stroke of creative genius! Thank you for sharing that!
Your blog is so COOL!
Thank you for adding me, I'm following yours now too :) I'm excited!
Whoa J-Mo.... never knew you had a poet inside ya!?!
Nice! I like it.
Spot-on, girl! Love it!
I run for my soul. And chocolate.
Huzzah!
Though, I think I agree more with Jamoosh.
This is AMAZING!!! Ahhh, I definitely need to follow you. I'm inspired! I really REALLY want to get back into running and accomplish a half marathon!
Hi Morgan
Well, I have to admit that now I am positive. You are perfect and nothing is going to change my mind. Beautiful writing!
There is nothing like getting up earlier than everyone else on a Sunday morning and hitting the trails for a long run. My favorites are on those cool fall mornings where the moon is behind me at the start and as I head back toward the beginning, the sun is coming up over the trees. Love it!
That PR is coming in just a few as well. I am going to tear up Toronto to the tune of a sub 2:57... weather permitting of course.
BTW, got myself a cool new pair of shorts that if they get noticed, it will be for the right reasons.
Take care!
LOVE IT!
I was definitely wondering WHY I run when I dragged myself out of bed for a track workout this morning, but the great feeling I had afterwards reminded me exactly WHY!
I love having a secret, when i go to work at 9 AM and have 10 miles under my belt it makes me feel good, and no one else knows. Just me (and my running buddy). Plus running is my therapy! ;)
Thanks for the aweseom poem. Your blog is a fun one!
Love this. Every runner needs to have something like this for the days when it seems like you just can't take another step forward.
Thanks!
This is an awesome post! I love it!
sooo awesome :)
Awesome poem! Seriously, that's such great writing :) And I love your reasons why you run!
Your poem was so inspiring that I wrote about it in my blog that's going up tomorrow morning :D
I couldn't have come upon your blog and read that poem at any more of a perfect evening..I had some pretty sucky runs these past two days so THANK YOU!
Morgan,
Thnx for the inspirational words. I'm reading them as I'm derailed with the flu, so now I'm really jonesing for a run. Darn!! Threw my training off big-time this week!
Thanks, also, for finding/commenting on my blog for those of us who are a bit slower/newer at running than you, but dedicated, just the same. It's nice to see a fellow Orlando runner in pics and words!
Looking forward to reading your posts, and enjoying catching up on previous ones - I've already thrown my two cents in on the loss of boobs. Your post is hilarious! :o) Your comedic twist on running and life is a really fun perpsective...keep up the good work!
P.S. - I agree @ being an Auntie - sooo awesome!!!
Hope to see you around downtown... just don't run me over! (And yes, I'll be wearing underwear... guess I'm not a 'real' runner, yet?! LOL)
Robin
