In other news, after the 20 Miler on Saturday morning, I was out of commission for the rest of the day. I hit up Massage Envy for a glorious massage, after which I stumbled home and fell into a coma for the next few hours. I managed to get out of bed long enough to grab a bite to eat and that was about it. After discussing the run with a few people I've basically figured out that I most likely suffered from heat exhaustion... No Bueno.
Yesterday I woke up feeling much better if not quite a bit stiff and the roomies talked me into going to a Yoga class with them. I've never been to a Yoga class before although I have tried some DVD's. (Wasn't really a fan) Triathlon Boy aka Coach preached the benefits of Yoga to me repeatedly during my training for the Gasparilla Half but I never gave in and actually took a real class... the girls told me what a good stretch it was and since that's EXACTLY what I needed and I still had a day left of my trail membership to the gym, I decided to join them. It was a good call. After the class I felt great and was moving almost 100% again. Today I feel even better than yesterday. I highly recommend the massage/yoga combo after a tough run like that. Definitely going to be doing this after the next 20 miler. Thanks to The Brunette aka the "Zen Master" as we now call her, for talking me into that one!
I also want to take a second and thank you all so much for your comments of support, encouragement and congrats for that 20 miler. As always, ya'll are nothing short of amazing! I really appreciated it and I apologize for being a little Negative Nancy. You were all right, I def ran 20 miles and you better believe I told EVERYONE that came across my path since then that I did. LOL!
"Yes I'd like to order the left side of the menu and by the way I ran 20 miles today..." :)

Before I forget, as if I could, just thought I'd mention that...
10 MORE WEEKS TIL CHICAGO MARATHON!!!

Woot woot! That's all I got. ;)
Great job. Your first 20 miler is always the toughest. Not that any are truely easy
Aww I'm sad I missed the class! I've never done yoga either and have always been a bit curious...
Congrats on that big 20. If you are running in the heat, the rest of the day post-run is pretty much a wash.
I have done yoga for quite some time now and feel it really helps me maintain my (really sucky) flexibility. I am naturally not flexible and all the running makes it worse. Yoga seems to make me a little better..
Take care!
Yoga is the bomb! I'm super sore right right now from a long weekend of running and surfing and the only thing I can think of right now is getting into my yoga tomorrow to stretch out these muscles and focus on the moment at hand. Yoga and surfing a great together and I'm sure it helps running too! :-)
Yoga is something that always feels SO good after a run but something I always have to practically force myself to do. Not sure why...
I've started using yogadownloads.com which has free 20 minute yoga classes. I'm *trying* to make myself do 20 minutes of yoga every day because I know I could really use the extra flexibility!
ten more weeks. why does is seem so much closer when you say it? ten weeks, less taper, that is about two months of training left. wow!
again, congrats on the awesome 20M run. and yoga is good for you, but so are vegetables.
heat exhaustion sucks! but at least you got out there and got it done. if you do run in the heat or even not, most of the day after a twenty miler involves sleeping for me too
I've never had an easy time with 20-milers, no matter how many I've done.
Fortunately, I get fitTV which has a 30-min Namaste Yoga program - I just do that & call it my day's stretch session :)
A massage and a nap sound like the PERFECT way to recover.
Yay! 10 weeks!
lol, left side of the menu. that's definitely what you should be ordering after a 20!
you spoil yourself. i definitely made my legs suffer for weeks before going for a massage, haha. (lazy and cheap, definitely wouldn't complain about going)
