This week's 3 Things Thursday is all about some major announcements. If you've paid attention to the blog layout you'll have noticed that I added a few things to the TO DO: List... so please settle back and prepare for an extra long, 3 Things Thursday: The Announcement Edition
1. Back around the end of July following my crazy 18 Miler, I received this email from Maddy over at Gotta Run:
Hi Morgan,
I don't know if you have thought about what's next for you after Chicago, but I was wondering if you would be interested in joining our Ragnar Relay Team on November 20 - 21. http://ragnarrelay.com/
It is usually run with a team of 12, but since a few of us have 30 miles scheduled for that weekend in preparation for Goofy, we decided to run it as an Ultra Team (Ultra teams are made up of six runners. Each member of the team will complete six legs of the Ragnar Relay Florida. Runners run two legs back to back three times (i.e. the first runner would run legs 1, 2, 13, 14, 25, 26 etc.)
To make matters more complicated, we want to run as a mixed team, which means we need 3 girls. One of my twitter friends from California - who is awesome and does crazy things like run 3 marathons in 20 days including the Boston Marathon, is pretty sure she is joining us and then there is one more open spot that I thought you might be interested in. I mean, if you're running 18 miles in the dark on a Friday night in Clermont, that I think you would definitely be up to the challenge!
Keep in mind it's not all at once, but over the course of 24 hours
Let me know what you think. It's going to be a lot of fun and the team has some pretty cool people and people I "know" but have never met. Talk about running blind date...
I hope you can join us! It'll be quite a story!
Best Regards,
Maddy

After reading the email, my stomach full of butterflies, I forwarded it to B.o.B with one sentence:
"Why am I tempted?" To which she replied: "LOL! DO IT DO IT DO IT! And we can text each other along the way! SUPER CRAZIES UNITE!!!!" I was already sold before I even hit send and she knew it. I mean, how could I possibly say no?! So one month after my first marathon I will be running the RAGNAR with a crazy bunch of fools on the aptly named team: MOJO LOCO... how fitting since I have clearly lost my d@mn mind.

2. Next up on our list is the National Marathon to Fight Breast Cancer Half Marathon to benefit the Donna Foundation. I want to do this particular run because of it's personal significance to me: My Aunt & Godmother, Donna, was diagnosed, and thankfully overcame breast cancer. When I stumbled across this aptly named race and cause I knew I wanted to run it in her honor. I plan on presenting her with a shadow box of the finishers medal and letting her know how much her strength inspired me in my running journey. I was originally planning to do the full marathon but realized that it is exactly one week before the Gasparilla Marathon (more on that in a moment) and although I have clearly already lost my mind, I think I would be pushing it by doing two marathons in a row. So right about the time I settled on doing the Half, I had an exchange with Jill over at Finishing is Winning, one thing lead to another and the next thing you know I had her convinced to come to Orlando and we'd head up to J-ville to hit the Half together! I'm so excited to run this with her and finally meet her in person!!!3. And finally one week after the Breast Cancer Half Marathon I will be running in my second marathon, the Gasparilla 2010 Marathon! As I said above, I had planned on doing the Breast Cancer marathon as my second marathon but when I found out this would be the final year Gasparilla would host a full marathon I absolutely HAD to run the Full. An added bonus is that the race is in B.o.B's back yard and we'll get to run it together!!! I had made a pact with myself that next year I would only run races that supported causes that were important to me and imagine my surprise and excitement when Danica over at ChicRunner posted about Operation Jack. After reading Sam & Jack's story I was stoked when I saw that one of the races Sam will be running will be the Gasparilla Marathon! Autism is another subject that is near and dear to my heart as I have not one, but two cousins affected by this. I left a comment to Danica thanking her for the info and moments later I had an email waiting in my inbox from Sam about Operation Jack and becoming a team member for Train 4 Autism. A few exchanges later and I was on board. I am so excited that I am able to make Gasparilla a run for a cause that is important to me and to meet Sam in person. I encourage you to take a moment and read his story and mission and then check out the schedule to see if he is running a marathon near you and JOIN A TEAM!

Please hold while I contain my excitement!!!!!
By the time I get to run with you, I think you might a pretty famous! I cannot wait for Feb- bonus points that it gets me out of the NJ winter!!
I have always supported kids causes, but most especially St. Judes. I am in awe of kids who are able to be resilient and push through whatever the day brings.
This year I am running the Philly Marathon for Back on my Feet; an organization that helps to inspire the homeless. It is a wonderful program that has already spread from PA to Baltimore.
I also choose my races because of who/what they support!
Ok...comment long enough :)
You are a machine! Sounds like you are going to have such a wonderful experience running this year. All great races too. I can't wait to read all about them.
You are definitely a machine! Way to go girl!!
I am so considering Gasparilla 2010 since it will be the last one.
WooooHooooo - great opportunities to run with other crazy bloggers. :-)
When Jeanie ran the Rock n Roll San Diego Marathon last year she raised a ton of money for cancer. She also works primarily with kids that have autism. I'm totally sending her the link to your blog. She'll be so happy for you!
I'm excited for you Morgan! Kudos for picking worthy causes to run for!
I am so proud of you for taking the initiative and running races for others. Also we are going to be freaking storm troopers by the end of this year. Can we get in any more races?!?!
That relay race looks awesome! You definitely have a packed schedule now!
OK, now I'm feeling pressure. Nobody has ever been excited to meet me before. I hope (and doubt) I live up to your expectations! :)
Wow! I'm really impressed with all your marathon/race running! Now I'm curious to see how you got into running! :)
Stopping in from SITS.
You are going to be one tired girl! Dang...that's a lot of running. At least I know my running buddy isn't going anywhere!!
Hmm maybe I should do the Gasparilla half while you guys are there...
That's AWESOME! I love that you're doing races with such great causes. I should start making that part of my criteria for selecting races. Good luck with it all!
Holy Wow pretty girl!! You are one busy crazy running chica. I REALLY want to run for a cause..as a Mom, career woman and runner I already feel like my plate is overfull...but you have inspired me to FIND A WAY.
Oh I am excited to follow along and take this journey with you.. I pray your legs hold up and you can achieve all you set out to do my friend :)
Congrats, Morgan. All of your plans and the to-do list is impressive. I look forward to reading about the races, the money raised and your life in general.
I am doing the Denver Full in support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I have amazing people in my life, raised the required $2000, and am still going strong. I gifted some of them $$ to my training partners to help them out, but overall, the entire experience of becoming a runner and raising money for LLS has been awesome. There are so many great people out there that run, and yes, blog. Enjoy your day!
This post should be called three EXCITING things Thursday. What a crap-load of awesome news! Sooo exciting and can't wait to be along for the ride with you and hear all about it!
So, do you know how far you will be running in the relay?!
Stopping by from SITS! Congrats on the running invitation!
Ragnar sounds like a BLAST, but I do think you're insane for doing it as a 6 person team. We had 12 and I nearly died. :p
So many exciting things in one post, my brain is exploding. ha ha :) Congrats on all the races and hooray for Team OJ! :)
Wow! You have a ton of great runs coming up!
it's official, you've gone crazy. :)
you've definitely caught 'the bug'! i am doing a ragnar in february so i am looking forward to hearing how it goes for you!
Wow! Sounds like you have some really great experiences planned! Can't wait to hear ALL about them!!
You have some majorly fantastic races coming up. Wow!!
I'm doing Marine Corps specifically as my first marathon for my fiance's family (many marines) and several close friends throughout the military. If they can give up everything for us, I can surely do this for them. Oh, and marines at every water stop and the finish? Yes please.
MOJO LOCO Baby!
I'm looking forward to it!
I wonder if I could convince you to join me, and wait for me at the end, of the Ocala Marathon. It's just a training run...
Wow, I admire all you're doing AND your love of running. Sadly, I hate to do it. But I do walk a lot so I'd have to say the Humane Society would be my cause. Love the pups!
Stopped by from SITS
I don't run, but I really admire what you do! Excellent!
this is so awesome :)
I just did the Wasatch Back Ragnar...amazing. I did NOT do it ultra. YOU are amazing. You'll love the relay, though.
OMG, I was eyeing the Ragnar Relay but couldn't find anyone willing to do it with me :( You'll have an awesome time!!
I trained w/Team in Training for my first marathon and let me just tell you that marathon training and race days have not been the same since. There's just something about running for a cause that makes you feel like you've accomplished so much more than just crossing the finish line.
I love your excitement!! It's contagious... I want to go run around my building now!
stopped by from sits today, and wanted to say good for you on the running!
i ran two marathons a while back and have been meaning to get back in to daily running to try and run one more, but life has taken over.
keep up with it!
This is all great stuff; thanks for the kind words on my WWR post--and I swear, you will NOT regret Ragnar! Even if it's tough as shit, you will be SO GLAD you did it in the end. I am race-jealous!!
